New bikes
« on: 05 November 2014, 03:29:08 pm »
My god. How ugly are the new bikes being presented this year? How samey?!?

It's a crying shame that there is only one bike that I like the looks of - that's the Ninja HR2. And I mainly like that because it's clearly nuts!

- The Honda RCV - looks like a video game designer's wet dream. WTF is with that exhaust too?

- The new R1. Not bad looking, I kinda like the new shape. But not lust-worthy material

- The new Beemer S1000XR: Multistrada rip off. And the MT-09: another "adventure" bike. Fugly. Same goes for that "Stradale" thing too. And the KTM... (although that last one's a bit unfair, as that's their style)

- That new Guzzi MGX-21. Yeugh. That is all.

The only new, pretty bikes are Aprilia's offerings: The Tuono and RSV. But that's because they've retained most of their shape

In short, there is no new bike that makes me slobber. I'll go back to my issue of Practical Sportsbikes, and slobber over the mechanics the 80s and 90s gave us. FZR1000 EXUP? Yum yum!

Same thing has been said for years though, hence the term UJM (Universal Japanese Motorcyle). Not a recently coined term.

There are very few bikes that catch my eye immediately, and I think, yeah, that looks great. But I've bought a few down the years that have instantly done it for me looks-wise. Others grow on me after a while, and some look better in the flesh than in photos.

You'd need some manufacturer to discover something entirely new in aerodynamics or something for them to produce a really different looking bike. Niche market models are all very well, but tend to wind up being too expensive to produce, and hence sell, to be worth the investment.

There's not many (if any) bikes that really do the same thing for me as some of my favourite cars. I like bikes, but as eye-candy... I just can't get on-board with it

But then, I'm probably playing with fire (pun intended) when I start mentioning cages <3

A few things I've noticed, a lot of bikes now have an exhaust valve on show, or a crappy plastic cover over it with a servo cable coming out of the wire. Looks really ugly. Why they can't put them on the other(inside) side of the pipe. If you didn't know the FZS 1000  had the Exup you'd never know it had one. Also some bikes have the Regulator/Rectifier in a stupid place, a really ugly piece of kit, I know it needs cooling but surely some sort of mild ducting could do the job if it was hidden. My old brain can't think which bikes are like this but ask in 20 years time when i remember.

Here ya go Christo. Someone I know of has just bought this for £900. His mate got another for £750. 180mph 90s bike. That's an awful lot of bike for the money! Welcome to the 80s/90s corner  :)

They were brilliant bikes weren't they? Although I had my big off on mine, I really have nothing but fond memories of it. And it was one of the ones where looks were the first immediate appeal for me. The crash was probably me trying to find it's limits - found my own first though  :lol

The 1000 Genesis was a quick bike.....Until I rode the EXUP RU, OMG I came and shat my undercrackers all at once! Top bike but should have had a special compartment for spare undies.  :rollin

I quite like the Honda CB650F - there's a 14 plate one at work, and it looks really good in the flesh!

Neither of the Aprillia's float my boat, the Tuono looks too much like it's borrowed gen2 Fazer headlights! I quite liked the MT09 though (maybe it's just because I like naked bikes).

Agree on the rest.

You'd be better off getting the previous model hornet mate. Consensus is that the new CBR650F looks okay, but has budget brakes, suspension an a borig engine!

As far as looks go, that Hondo doesn't look too bad. I'm not overly convinced by the nose, but its not as bad as others I've seen recently

I've got a friend selling a Hornet 900 next year, I'm very tempted by that!

I think it will be the CB650 for me next to replace my Hornet, its has a little less power but does 60mpg. On the bright side it would need less pretrol stops than the newer fazer thou. does.

I was close to buying a fazer 600 the newer model, but the idea went as soon as the saleman mentioned the under seat exhaust put a lot of heat into the saddle especially the pillion. As we went to France in a heat wave so glad I had not changed bike. Finding the right all round bike and with pillion comfort in mind is not easy. especially when I m not after a large bike.

If You are looking for pillion comfort the baby 650 Versy should do the trick, that is if you want a small bike or the out going Versy 1000 is a belting bike ulgy as sin but some good deals about. Comes with traction control etc! I tried one a while back loved it but the seat height is just to high for me.
