End of an era

After a decade of free complimentry bike MOT's I finaly had to pay for one on Saturday.
And I got an advisory, which I knew I'd get, for the front tyre.
The tester was very clued up about the mods done, and went over the bike 'with a fine tooth comb' checking the integrity of every mod. Probably the most thorough MOT the bike has had... Not to take anything away from my old mate who used to do them. and knew the bikes' history.

Usual preamble before having a go at someone: "Not having a go, but...."
If you knew your front tyre was borderline why didn't you fix it beforehand?
It may have effected the bloke's testing. "if he's happy having this tyre what else is wrong?"

@ DanielT
The tyre is not yet at the wear marks and I knew it would pass. There is still about 500 easy miles left in it and at this time of year I'm not going to be using it much so why shell out on a new tyre that's going to spend the next three - four months mostly in the garage? So I've got dosh left in the pocket to do other things. After the leaves and the winter is over I'll then puchase new rubber front and back.
The advisory is issued to let you know that something is on it's way out but still legal and safe to use. If not it's a fail. Nothing else is wrong with the bike. As I said it was the most thorough MOT the bike has had. Plus if there was anything else wrong with the bike that would have caused it to fail the test then I would have rectified it before hand.
Touch wood. I've never had a bike fail an MOT test in thirty four years of legal riding. Even the free ones.

An 'Advisory' is just that, an early heads up that something will require attention sooner rather than later but is still legal.

Now hang a moment, we're missing the important question here.
How and why were you getting free mot's?

Just want to repeat the "not having a go" bit ;-) Fair dos if you're not riding over winter. I was thinking along the lines of give it a wash beforehand to show them you care, or hoovering out the cage before its MOT
Slight tangent: I want to get one of these bad boys from buyapowa to aid in changing a tyre. Anyone used the kit successfully?

Bike didn't even get cleaned beforehand. It looked trashed. A propper filthy Julie.
On the other hand the Merc got MOT'd yesterday and I got four advisorys on that.
Two rear brake lines and two gators on the track rod ends. Ordered the parts this morning. I'll add I didn't spot them.
