Looks like a barrel of laughs to fit, I'm presuming you have fit various different sensors around the bike and route the wiring thru to the clocks. Can't be easy, can it?

No, quite simple in fact.  The Multigauge takes its information from data that is already going to the clocks through the standard wiring.  No additional sensors required.

There's a bit of soldering to be done to connect the Multigauge wires to the instrument gauge board but nothing to panic over. :)
Quite simple for you, Mike! Once you've Ivanised every Fazer in Europe, you can start fitting these for the electrically inept!  :)

The important thing is to be honest with yourself, what will the thou do for you? Will you have the chance to use the extra power, and how much have you modified the 600, because you'll probably want to spend as much on the thou, so take that into account.
If it really is a good deal, the only thing you'll miss are the lower running costs and the main difference will be that the thou is a bit heavier and a bit taller, but a lot faster!

So unfair, I bet you didn't need heated gloves on your ride!
Looking good, Mike! I think I'll have to look into some USD forks for mine when the money's available, and some wavey discs, and some colour matching and some.....

I've used Halfrauds semi synth M/C oil on several bikes, and it seems to be as good as anything at a reasonable price.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: So have yamaha sold any 8's ?

You're probably quite right, Slaninar, but as PieEater says, nobody wants to admit that they never use a large chunk of the power available from a 1000. In recent years I've moved from 600s to 1000s, back to 600s and now back to a 1000, and I keep wishing there was something in between that wasn't just a sleeved down litre bike with budget suspension.
I had high hopes that the FZ8 would be the ideal bike for me, but, sadly, it isn't.

Oops!! But it's a good excuse to cut down the can; it'll look excellent as a stubby!

I fitted a Poly26 bellypan to my CB1000R, and, while their designs are good, the finish is very very poor. The fibreglass needed quite a bit of filling and finishing before it was ready for painting.

IMHO Poly26 products are overpriced considering the amount of work you have to put in. I hope you've provided enough taxi rides for all the work needed!

Thanks, Mike. Think I'll save a few quid and stick with the standard plugs.

The FZ8 was a hugh let down, as were the Kawasaki and Suzuki 750 efforts.

When I started riding, back in the early '70s, a 750 was a big bike and now a properly sorted 750/800 would be all you really need on the road for solo riding. Instead, they've all brought out cheap and nasty versions of bigger bikes, not thinking that some might opt for an engine you can use more of, more of the time.

Must try harder!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 30K Service
« on: 11 November 2011, 11:17:45 pm »
My gen1 has just got to 30000 miles, so time for the first service I'll have done on it. A couple of questions for those who've worked on these before;
1. does the oil filter come out easily without removing downpipes? I presume it does, but it looks pretty tight for space.
2. any particular oil recommended, or any of the usual suspects OK?
3. I've never bothered with iridium plugs before, but does anyone else? Are they worth the extra?
Thanks in advance.
