I don't have any photo's other than when I first got it (pre luggage or recent changes)

Reg is YL51 ZDD, it's recently had stainless downpipes, has the small (yamaha) engine bars and the left one has a scrape from me dropping the bike. Standard end can but that has signs from a minor crash. It's also had a fender extender, scot oiler with touring kit fitted.

Is it worth phoning round the local bike shops? Besides needing a bit of a vent I figured people here are more likely to come across parts.

I'm another lightweight and go to 33/37 ish, purely so that if it looses a bit I haven't gone below spec. anything above 2psi above spec and it felt nasty for me.

« on: 02 February 2016, 07:29:54 pm »
I haven't camped with motorbikes but have with push bikes.

My tent is similar in design to the Vango Tempest and while the tent can cope with very bad weather it's unpleasant to be inside it as I can only sit up at one end, it's fine when the weather is good and I could cook outside. Of course if you plan to eat in pubs and just need to sleep in it then the design is light.

I would check the current draw on the gloves. Just thinking that a Gerbing battery is 12v 1.4ah while the battery you have linked to is 1.2ah at 5v (and my experience of cheaper ebay batteries is that they are optimistic with the claimed capacity.

I've used loksaks in the past for keeping things dry if you have  a leaky holder

I do wear a hi vis, I prefer one with sleeves (I got one at a bike safety day but have struggled to find a  suitable replacement). While I still get missed from time to time I do think drivers are more embarrassed after. On a solicitors website they also pointed out that it may help create a good impression in court should you have a bump.

The one where I think I scared someone I changed into the outside lane as there was a lot of bunching, the cars couldn't get up to speed but with a gap I moved across and then opened the throttle in 2nd, it just got me wondering if I've scared others and just not noticed.

The mini driver had been causing me problems earlier, speeding to overtake me (allowing me to read a "You've just been mini'd sticker on the back)  and having very poor lane discipline, I'd filtered past a few cars which then turned off so she was back to being right behind me, tailgated me on the approach. I wouldn't have gone for the gap behind me on the bike never mind a car.

General / Joining NSL roads
« on: 01 November 2015, 08:46:43 pm »
Hi,

My commute involves Joining the A52 from fairly slow speed slip roads. I sometimes have to join at Spondon where there are also cars trying to get off it at the same place which can be a problem. With the bike I can get up to speed fairly quickly if I have to and can normally get into the outside lane if I really want to. I'm just concerned as the other day someone got a bit worried as they didn't seem aware of how quickly I could pick up the speed. Is it more polite to not do that or is it safer to get into the outside lane where there's less bunching and less chance of being mistaken for a gap?

I did once get a mini driver who seemed to have decided she was in a fast car and could follow me despite the gap being much smaller for her.

I guess the Deauville will be cheaper to run. My Dad has been very happy with both of his (had a 650 before the current one), both have done over 100k with very little work. With the large pannier lids it can carry a lot.

« on: 17 September 2015, 09:38:21 pm »
As a cyclist I hate the idea of these. People seem to think that when there's a cycle lane you aren't allowed out of it even when they put the bloody things next to parking bays where people open their doors into you. With these if someone walks out in front of you you can't steer away from the danger even if there's nothing else using the road.

General / Re: Dementia and Hotpoint cookers
« on: 12 September 2015, 08:23:11 pm »
I have a cannon/hotpoint cooker though it's a ch60dpxfs bought three years ago.
I just tried turning the main oven on, dialing it down to 140 and turning off at the switch. It came back on at 140. If you use the dial to turn it on and off then it will always come on at 200 (or 190 when it's not in fan assisted mode for some reason).

A couple of other thoughts though. I used to live with a blind guy who had sticky on things for oven dials and so forth. The top oven on my cooker is a more simple turn it around to the desired temp. If you stuck one of those knobs on the dial and another just above the dial you could make it harder for someone to turn it past 140

a final point on my cooker, this could (and I hope) just be mine but I seem to have to cycle through setting the clock before getting to the timer. If that one works the same way that could be very confusing for her.  (just re-read and she uses a separate timer so maybe less of a concern).

General / Re: question about ford crossing
« on: 22 August 2015, 10:37:59 am »
I think the 2nd will be more forgiving, if I keep 1st each underwater stone bump may transfer in wrist movement which will mean abrupt change of the speed and because the engine stopping power is huge in 1st that will mean a lot of laugh for you guys when I make the movie.
That makes sense, the bike I was using didn't have much power. I was also going on normal roads that just flooded so besides areas where man hole covers had come up (where I was VERY careful to follow the wheel of the car in front) the surface was ok. The roads were up to 2ft deep (at the edge) as well so had a fair bit of resistance.

Is there a reason to use 2nd not first? I haven't done any fording on the fazor but took my sr125 through so fairly deep flooded roads and went down to first and kept the revs high.

FZS600 Fazer / Indicators to work with a wingrack
« on: 19 August 2015, 02:15:39 pm »
I had a side stand mishap last week and my fazer went over, thankfully I have the mini crash bars fitted so damage was just the wingrack indicator. I don't know if it can be glued back togeather and if not was wondering if I could fit something in the original place so that they don't stick out. They are a tight fit with the current cover.

The other damage is the trim to the Givi 46V

I don't know if I could just add something to support some reflective tape and replace that (which is quite handy). If not the trim is about £20

Do you live in a hard water area? only time I've had issues with nikwax was when I was somewhere that was. I use wash in rather thaan spray on though. If the membrane gas gone though it's of limited use.

I can see how someone wanted there money all in one place. It can be a nightmare trying to find everything when it's all over the place.

I'm glad you got it sorted.

Pretty much the same as you. Hastings frequently pointed out I had to deal with their insurance company until I pointed out that was also Hastings. Mine was a bent disk on a 125 which I replaced with a second hand one and gave up chasing (70% of £25 didn't seem worth the time). I just pointed out how unhappy I when it came time to renew and they gave me a good price.

I had this, added confusion as both parties were with Hastings. the other driver claimed she was stationary and that I overtook a car and hit her (I was filtering and had stopped when she misjudged a corner and clipped me). I only had a bent disc on a 125 and misplaced the old one so gave up on trying to get costs back (only £25 on ebay anyway).

For the record my claim went 70/30 car/me after a bit of back and forth.

It's only a few miles. I wasn't sure if riding after applying plusgas was alright or if the heat would make it go gummy.

I'm glad to see this got sorted in the end. My exhaust is blowing so the pipes are going to come off. I wasn't planning to do this myself given that I'm hopeless at such things. I was going to ride the bike to a shop but wasn't sure what to do before hand to make this job less risky.
Everything is original on a 2001 bike but seemed to in good condition and under 6k when I bought it. I've done about 4.5k but it has been in a shed over winter I don't know if it's just a gasket it a new down pipe job.

Would it be better to get someone to come to me and not ride it?

I've been lucky, just parked it next to the bike sheds. Always had a security camera pointing at it and the current company even pays me extra for not using a car.
