would like some advice on travel for first time

I have wanted to visit Ireland for a while so as i  have a very good very reliable FZS ... i wonder has any one taken they`re bike (whatever model ) over there from UK  ?



#i am in Plymouth and would like to travel be it by public transport or by bike ... ok more by bike ... would be an adventure for sure
 
Any advice  would be appreciated ... even a company ride if any one up for t ... always bettter to ride more than 1 just more interesting that way ... but either way

maybe some of you guys /girls done the trip on a trusty Fazer  ?

Hi, have moved this here so it'll get more exposure

Many foccers (including me) have been over and it's a nice trip. I went for 5 days and rode in a rough circle around just seeing how far I got to and taking a hotel room where I found one.

Basics: they use the Euro, speed limits and distances are in KM, their roads were poor but much EU money has been spent so they should now be better quality, there's not much traffic, roads are easy to follow with a good map - the only time I got lost was in Northern Ireland, (aka 'The North'), the north of Ireland is quite far north and will be cold for a Plymouth boy , when I went it rained 4 days out of 5.

The Ring of Kerry is famous for its roads and views. Dublin is beautiful (if you like cities) and well worth a few days if you have the time.

Northern Ireland still uses the Pound..
Yep good riding over there and i found surprisingly few police about.

Best riding i found was in the west and north.. West coast is like riding in the highlands but with palm trees.. Weird but true... People are all friendly and the scenerys nice.. West gets busy in the summer with tourists and buses though.

I personally avoided the citys but then im a country boy anyway..
Weather xan be a bit unpredictable though

I've been to the south on my trusty fazer.
As Fraser says, the Ring of Kerry is beautiful (Apparently) When I rode round it, I had some of Irelands 'special' rain. Sideways, by the skip full! Take good waterproofs, whatever the time of year. All I saw was tarmac that day sadly!
I stayed at the Clontarf in Dublin. It's biker friendly, with underground secure parking.
The people are very friendly towards bikers I found

do it, you'll love it. do the usual holiday prep on your bike and gear, and just go.

few years ago when BSB was still at Mondello we went over for that and then took in the NW200 the weekend after. in between we popped over to Limerick, Galway, Donegal on our way back to the north. (we also took the baton for the foc-u relay with us - how many remember that?)

was thinking of a similar trip and have family in donegal that im sure would put us up.
only ever been to donegal and the north in a cage but it was beautifull land.
im 100% sure youll need waterproofs haha

Obviously check your insurance and breakdown cover.

The only place I've ever (touch wood) been done for speeding.
Good hostel network which helps to keep costs doon.

If you're heading west then Killarney's a good base, plenty cheap B&B's, Ring of Kerry is good, Gap of Dunloe is stunning. If the weather's decent then look at Dingle, Slee Head and Connor Pass are cracking rides. If you're planning on staying in Rosslare then have a look at Cedar's hotel or Hotel Rosslare (overlooking the ferryport).
And if you catch the Pembroke ferry, don't eat the food, it's shite.

Have been over several times on bike. Are you planning to go this time of year? If so be prepared for rain,rain & more rain! Ive only been in summertime & have experienced all the best that motorcycling has to offer. Its a magnificent country but then Im prejudiced (Irish ancestry).
If going for first time try & go with one or two others. Most B&Bs biker friendly,people willing to stop & chat about anything & everything.Scenery is stunning if you know where to go. Dont try for the maximum number of miles per day-its not America-you will see so much more if you explore byways.
First trip I took all bar the kitchen sink. Was a steep learning curve-now I know how to travel light-& how & where to pack stuff. Dont do a "Charlie & Ewan" unlewss youve got back up vehicles following you!

Agaiin good advice ...
 trying to figure when at mo but look forward to it . just remembered took a KMX (dereistricted ) up to the Lakes n round em ...slept rough this time of year some years ago ... that was fun .
 This though sounds a bit different .
A bit more research n time to take i think . Rain  im getting used to it down here in supposibly sunny Plymouth  . i think the sign as you come in is a trigger .. you know youa re home when it starts raining
