Ahoy.
My tank was vandalised last night and left with a huge dent and a damaged fuel sensor, it looks like i need to replace mine.

I don't mind small dents/scratches, doesn't have to be perfect.
Doesn't even have to be silver.

It does have to be cheap, though. I'm dole scum and can only just afford to keep the bike on the road, so something like this is a massive hit to my already crappy finances.

Ideally in the Leicestershire area as i can collect it to save money on postage.

All this after i'd just finished paying it off and getting it just so... Dammit.

Sorry to hear that mate.. Good luck with finding one. If you get one and want it painting silver, I'll do it FOC. If you can get to norwich.

How badly damaged is it, got pictures..? If its just dented and scratched maybe ogri can effect a repair on it.

Found some on ebay, but they are all over £100 - eg - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZS-600-FAZER-2003-ERA-MODEL-FUEL-PETROL-TANK-/261558452423?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item3ce61940c7

It's a pretty hefty knock to the left side and makes it uncomfortable on the leg.

Sadly; That tank probably won't fit. I'm told anything up to 2002 will, however (garage & breakers told me the same).

Depending on what Ogri can do, that dent should be repairable. A panel beater should be able to pop that back out to the point its can be repainted.

I take there was no cctv camera covering where the bike was parked, and the police are next to fucking useless..?

There's also a protrusion at the bottom which is the uncomfortable part.
If it can be fixed for a good deal less than a new tank, i'll likely get it done when i can afford to do so, which may be a few weeks given that i'm currently unemployed and skint.

One GOOD thing is that my fuel meter is now working properly.

I think I can panel beat and fill that mate. Though I'd need it for a week to do a pukka job.  Can't say for sure without seeing it in the flesh but I'm kinda sure it's do able. To do it gratis I'd havta use a metallic silver I already have, which may not match your side panels, so may need to do them too. Alternative is you source the proper paint colour and I'll use that. Offers there bud if it's any good to you.

That would be quite fantastic!

The nature of the main dent is that it's largely inwards, with a section along the bottom edge protruding quite a bit where the metal has bent sharply. No idea how you'd manage to pop it back out, though.

I can get it sent/returned by courier which is no problem at all.

As for paint: Silver is fine. But if i were to send you a different colour to do the tank and seat panel; Would it be a standard spray or something more specialised that you'd need?

Again: MASSIVELY appreciate the offer!

I'll research prices for getting a tank etc to Norwich tomorrow, didn't realise it was almost 120 miles from Leicester! Heh.

Primer and lacquer would be 2k, I'd supply that, and in truth that's the pricier bit as both are two pack and need hardener.
Paint colour would be "base coat", you could get a small pot mixed by a paint company for about twenty quid. I'm in Peterborough Sunday to visit my mum if that helps mate, and back most weekends to visit my kids.
As to the dent, all dents need a certain amount if panel beating anyway as the metal around the dent always bellies out to a certain extent, it should be ok :-)
If you are thinking of a different colour, I have shit loads of colours in metallics and flat, as I bought all of our local car paint suppliers customer mistakes up cheap, if you wanted one of those that wouldn't cost owt.
Let me know what colour you are thinking of if that is the case..I've daubed the lids of all the pots I have with the paint inside, I'll post up a photo of what I've got closest to what your looking for.
Moby sent bud..

Ps..we areat the farm we are renting for another two months, so no rush if you wanna wait awhile afore getting it done, offers open as long as we have the big carport we have at the moment to spray under.. :)
Bear in mind I'm a self employed builder, I'll only be able to work on the tank in the evenings. Atvb paul

Well, I think I've sorted it.  Can't put the photos on a pm so putting them here fir the feller...Though there's a little finishing to do, but it's just elbow grease..
Dene sent the tank and body kit. Dent was bad, proper fucked the tank that also had crash damage on the other side. Tail piece also crash damaged and mudguard a aftermarket fibre glass item matt blacked with a rattle can.

My missus saw it and said " do you really think you can fix that! Best to send it back now, be honest with the bloke tell him sorry but it's too damaged.."
I agreed. But, I said I'd give it a go.
So, very apprehensively, I made a start.
Panel beating is an arse. Gently tapping for hours, trying to get as much of the original shape back without hittingtoohardand fracturing the sharp edge of the crease, rendering it useless.
Eventually,I 'twas as best as I could get, absolutely no way to push from the inside, so still loads if filling needed.
Filler shrinks. So many layers, gradually building up. I've never tried to do an internal curve before, let alone several internal radius's merging..it was a pig and then some. And Christ did it take some filler...

But it was coming. Work kept interfering, but eventually first coat of primer, then the twenty hours air curing time, flatting, then another, and more curing time..

Spoke to dene a few times, it was taking a lot longer than I thought, but he was good as gold about it, there's nowt worse than not being able to use your bike for a few weeks. Just hoped I could sort it out for him..
He'd chosen grey with a black stripe. Got loads of silvers but inly one gray, Volvo Flint, so we went fir that and a flat bmw black.
Flatted everything again and painted, then made a totally disastrous mistake..

Knowing I had several coats of lacquer to apply, I used a u-pol additive, "rocket" to speed up the air cure.

It reacted, and shagged the lot..
Cleaned it up with thinners and wet and dry, started spraying colour again, and it reacted again..I hadn't cleaned it all of enough.
By now I was so fed up with it you can't believe it, and the week end was gone. All my own fault and part of my learning curve unfortunately
So woke up today, thought " right, calm down. Start again. Finish it today no matter what, get his bits back to him.."

Tried a different tack. Normally it's thinnered lacquer, cure, flat, lacquer cure, flat, work through to very fine wrt and dries, compound, polish done...
Days of work, that I havnt the luxury of doing ( back to twelve hour shifts tomorrow),and dene wants his bike back on the road before Christmas..
So, no thinners, very thick coats with no flatting between.
What that means is I can get the stuff back to him, he can fit it and it'll look fine, and he can hand polish it over time to glass it up a bit.
Unfuckinbelievably, thefront muddie reacted again just on one side, so it was working to the wire to get it done, but done it is. His colourchoicewas good..it looks pukka. Hopefully dene will have it back weekend.
I did it for two reasons...1) to help a fellow biker 2) to practise and learn from mistakes. Think I achieved both, especially on the mistakes front... :)

Glad I could help dene, and meand her indoors will be taking up your offer if help with the business stuff, thanks.
I'll send the stuff you need to finish it along with the paints for touching up mate..you still got some elbow grease to do, but it's all good, an a lot better than it was ;)
