Got him a GS500F Suzuki about 4 years ago, '07 plate, bang on the A2 licence restriction. My lad's 25 and he passed the last bits of the A2 'jumping through hoops' test before winter set in. He went out last month and tested a new Africa Twin and an MT09 - he loved them both, but not the monthly payments nor the insurance quotes, nor the likely depreciation and obligatory service costs. So he started looking at 'older' bikes, VFR800 and XJR1300's. No real depreciation, no monthly payments and cheap insurance. His mates at work told him the XJR13 was a pig on stilts, so he started thinking Bandits......Nooooo!!! Just done a deal for him on a '54 plate Gen 1, 6k miles, 1 owner, standard and still on Metz4 hoops He'll only use it for fun and best yet, only £200 insurance fully comp. It'll be 15 years old next year and eligible for even cheaper insurance deals for him. Future classic bike - oh Yeah! Sure he'll be on here soon too, give him a nice welcome won't you? Nice to be back.

Looking for FZS1000 Gen1 Fazer streetfighter screen in black / dark smoke - must be mint for my new toy - or new - anyone? Gave mine away with my 1st Fazer thinking I'd not need it again Standard and tall screens just create wind & noise around my lid, (I'm 6'1") while I find the cut down screen makes for undisturbed air and looks cool.

http://www.expressinsurance.co.uk/bikers-guide/scotlandOnly just returned to the forum after a year or so without a Fazer. BUT I'M BACK! Hoping I'm still welcome and have already posted on Fazer FZS1000 section. Meanwhile, I've managed to get selected by Stavros Parish as one of 7 regional winners with Express Bike insurance after I submitted my best biking road (SCOTLAND) for their Bikers Guide competition. Please have a dekko at my entry (SCOTLAND) and hope you like it enough to vote for me too. Apparently the overall winner gets free bike insurance for a year. (Up to £300 value) Thanks in advance.

Gotta feel sorry for him. My son, passed his CBT, started riding his CBF125 in March (proud Dad & Mum) and was doing quite well 'till yesterday. Fell off in rain at low speed on a roundabout, no injury, minimal damage. Limped home with forks twisted in yokes and bent bars. Straightened out easy enough, then he opened a brown envelope with this........ Cried? I nearly PMSL. Steep learning curve innit. Poor bugger!

Layla's 22 now and she took advantage of a Groupon offer we'd bought for her with a local recording studio. She's always wanted to sing professionally and I think the audio of her attempt at 'The Climb' by Miley Cyrus is quite a good one. So much so that I had a go at putting together a few family clips and I've just chucked it all on youtube. What's do you think then? I'm biased of course, but I think she did brill'

Out of the house, turn left at lights, one and a half miles up dual carriageway (how I love my Full Monty) and flip flop thru small Roundabout. Or so I thought, it was about 6 degrees today, bloody cold North wind too, but dry. As I chucked it into the Roundabout, flip left was no problem, then front end went as I began the flop right, but now I was on opposite lock with the front clearly sliding, maybe the back too. I recall my right boot, still on peg, sliding on road and thinking 'here we go' - must have been holding back a little 'cos my Guardian Angel was still with me, I was somehow able to correct (or was it me?) for the 'flip' left back onto the dual carriageway straight ahead and carried on with a big grin. Oooohhh, adrenalin eh? Just another 'moment' I know and we all have 'em, ('specially with cold tyres) but one that made me think once more, just how good and forgiving my Fazer Thou' is and how I love my Bridgestones that talk to me without just bin bagging me straight off. (Old BT020's too - 23's next Spring)

£16 a ticket, £4 a programme and £10 to park!!!! How can the NEC justify these charges? I've just been to the caravan show last Tuesday which is massive and entry was £5, with free programme AND free parking!! What makes the NEC think that bikers can afford this rip off!!

Galaxy Blue, ' 54 plate, 2nd owner, 9454 miles, genuine mileage. MOT & Tax, Datatool alarm/immobiliser. Factory crash bungs, but never used. Ivans Full monty professionally (Mike) fitted carb. kit with K&N filter. Exup valve working well with stainless bolts. Iridium plugs. 135+bhp at rear wheel yet able to return 55mpg with avarage of 49mpg. 21ltr tank allows 200 miles between refills. In standard trim with Beowulf road legal silencer and standard. Meticulously maintained, always garaged. Good C&S and tyres, recent battery, needs nothing. Not desperate to sell as I do love this bike, it does everything for me, but I've had it for 3 years, simply fancy a change and Adventure bike beckons. Need to get that outta my system then I'll probably get another Gen1 . Very, very good condition although small scratch on tank. No rust or flaky paint on engine/chassis as it's never been used in winter or when bad weather, leisure bike only used by mature owner of 54yrs. Includes Genuine Yamaha rack and smaller screen, not fitted at present. £3,195 ONO Advertised elsewhere but on offer here to any foccer at £2995 for quick sale. Oh yeah, I'm in Maghull, North of Liverpool, just South of Ormskirk, Lanc's. PM me if you're interested.

I'm used to the 'wing on distances, sooooo comfy. Using the Fazer for approx 700 miles solo tomorrow covering the North Lakes from Liverpool, Stanraer, Kelso, Newcastle and more before going home. Setting out about 4am, reckon to be back 'fore dark. Planning on about 9 to 10 stops, photographing Landmarks for this years RoundBritainRally. Did 480 miles in 1 day on a Blackbird some years ago. Crippled me for a week. How's the Fazer gonna do then? What about me??

Test rode a Cross Tourer at the weekend. Lovely bike, silly prices, got back on my Fazer 1000 and thought..... how stupid would I be to part with my Fazer - luvvin' it! (even after blowin' a fork seal too!)

« on: 15 April 2012, 09:48:54 pm »
One leg's leaking. Gonna do both seals. Recommendations as to o/e or aftermarket - leaning toward original due to past experiences but been quite some time since I've had to do any forks - are the ones from Wemoto okay? I used to shorten spring in seal itself to assist in making it a better seal - this still done?
