I had a yellow and black Gen 1 US Import in 2003. Lovely colour scheme. Much deeper yellow than the EU model. The only difference was that you couldn't turn the headlights off as they are compulsory in the US. I asked my local Yamaha dealer, who has always done all my servicing, about headlight alignment and he told me that modern motorcycle headlights all point more or less straight ahead and don't noticeably dip to the left or right like car headlights. He was right because it always went through mot's no problem.
I could change my opinion, but then we'd both be wrong.

Its likely to also have self cancelling indicators. and maybe one of those fuel evaporation systems that feeds any unburnt fuel vapour into a canister, which is then burnt off when the engine fires. and maybe doesnt have a flasher switch for the headlight too

Don't know about the fuel evaporation system but it definitely didn't have self cancelling indicators. Don't think it had a flasher switch on the headlights either which is no bad thing as it is always misinterpreted by idiots in this country who don't know the highway code. I never use mine for that very reason.

Ah yes, forgot about the FZ1 decals instead of "Fazer". It didn't have the side markers on the forks and tail though so maybe the previous owner removed them.

There are two US models only the California model has the fuel vaporizer kit.
The needle jetting is different but I believe not noticeable.
Also the fuel mix screws are blanked off but can be drilled out for tuning.
The US models don't have the side lights.
Mine does not say it is a  inport in the log book, but was imported  by DK motorcycles, so no Yamaha service book.

i have a question about a 1000Fazer, which is imported from U.S. is there a big difference to european model. would i get problems getting spareparts in case of need, or is it the same.
My 2005 is originally from Hawaii, and I have found almost all parts are the same.
  • The headlight need changing of course
  • The indicators have to have the extra wire Unplugged (its for the always on front indicators)
  • The left and right switch gear need to be swapped for UK specs to get back some functionality - hazard lights, headlight on/off) - thankfully the connectors for the UK s-gear are already in-place
  • And lastly the loom and even then only some of the connections, it has one headlight relay instead of the usual 2(which I have since put back and wired up as per Uk spec - this allows me to turn the headlight/sidelights off). And in my case there was a bit of a volt drop to the instrument cluster so ran a new earth.
Mine didnt have the air vaporiser kit (I guess as its not a cali model), also my fuel mix screws were accessable so I guess the first owner must have removed the blanks.

I have a 2004 USA import and have had no issues with parts, MOT's or servicing.

The original indicators are larger than the UK/Euro models and as above originally are always on and flash off, this would have been sorted by the shop that imported the bike.

Both my headlights are on all the time and dip flat, there is no pass/headlight flash and no hazard switch.

Two tone paint and reflectors on the forks and under the side of the seat.

I have had mine since new in 2004 and it has never missed a beat.
