Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 2005 Gen 1 Switched Live Question
« on: 13 September 2016, 03:03:51 pm »
Hi fonts of all knowledge,
Just bought a discounted Garmin Zumo from Aldi. Where would be the best and easiest point to hook up to a switched live. Had been under the misapprehension that one side of the horn was the place, but that's not so. Thanks in advance wise ones.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 758's/Hel brake lines
« on: 18 July 2016, 03:50:16 pm »
About to order a set of Hel brake lines, using the 3 line set up on the front. Did anyone using full width 758 bars and this configuration bother to order the master cylinder to splitter line any longer than stock. Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Mini indicator recommendations
« on: 21 June 2016, 07:00:27 pm »
I wondered if someone could recommend a reliable make of after market mini indicators. Nothing fancy, just a black body, amber lens preferably arrow head shape. Think the ones I've got are Motrax, which have lasted about 800 miles before the sprung section of the bulb holder has decided not to be sprung any more. Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / MRA X-creen XCTA (Touring)
« on: 14 June 2016, 09:42:06 pm »
Had a trawl through the minefield of "what windscreen", and wondered if anyone has tried one of these fitted to the stock Fazer screen. Was thinking of just using the fitting to clamp it to the top of the screen to hopefully get a relaxed cruising speed around the 85/90 mark abroad. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New can fitted, poor low rpm response
« on: 10 April 2016, 07:59:13 pm »
First ride out today since fitting a link pipe and can, in preparation for getting Ivanised at the end of the month. Noticed that the engine bogs down below 2000rpm, having a poor tick over and doesn't run clean till about 2500rpm.Is that to be expected, or has another problem surfaced coincidentally at the same time. Your thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Would like to have been a fly on the wall inside the Ducati garage last night, the air must have been Yamaha blue rather than Duke red. Dani seemed shocked in his interview to have made the podium. A big thumbs up for Eugene Laverty, a big confidence booster for him.

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted for Gen 1 1000
« on: 01 April 2016, 10:11:22 pm »
Hi Foccers,
I'm after the plastic bracket that supports the rear light unit. With the saddle off it's the bracket that the cross head screw in the middle of the tail piece, screws into. It's got 2 rubber bungs in it that give access to the rear lights. There's a couple of 10mm bolts that screw into it through the underside of the undertray, behind the numberplate. Not bothered if the bungs are missing.
Thanks for looking.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / lengthening sidestand to use with jack up kit
« on: 09 March 2016, 09:03:58 pm »
Another question guys as couldn't find any info using Search. What's the best method of lengthening the sidestand when using jack up dog bones. I have heard that building up the "foot" with weld can cause the return spring to become a bit overwhelmed by the increased weight. As always, any input much appreciated.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / AIS removal kit
« on: 08 March 2016, 10:46:37 pm »
Bit of a tall order, but would anyone have a record of the dimensions of the ais removal fittings that justy used to make, and what would be the preferred material. Don't fancy going the tapered tap route and was considering getting a machine shop to make me a set.
Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Stock bar end weight removal
« on: 02 March 2016, 05:13:44 pm »
My Renthal 758's got delivered yesterday. I'd like to retain the stock bar end weights, so thought I'd take an end weight and the bars to a local engineering firm to get the bars tapped accordingly. However removing the weight is causing me grief. Is it just a matter of unscrewing it using the appropriate allen socket, have tried but didn't want to give it too much stick. Also looking into the bar end there's a torx screw head. What's that for.
Thanks in advance.

Any suggestions would be appreciated for a suitable paint match to repair a couple of chips in the black engine finish.

Thanks.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ermax undertray
« on: 08 February 2016, 12:08:09 pm »
Another question from a newbie. Was thinking of getting the Ermax undertray to tidy up the back end, especially if my high level pipe idea works out. Does anyone know if there's cutting involved in order to fit this. I only ask as at the moment my bike is fairly mint, only 8000 odd miles, and would seem a bit sacrilegious to start carving lumps out of it. Also I'm presuming that no-one makes a tail tidy for the Gen 1 thou anymore, or am I wrong. Thanks.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Renthal question
« on: 08 February 2016, 01:01:14 am »
Having read through quite a few posts regarding changing the stock bars to Renthals, the preferred choice seems to be 758's. Is the code 758 only associated with the ultra low bars. If so, what's the code number of the low bars. It's a toss up between those two that I'll go for.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / High level link pipe
« on: 04 February 2016, 02:55:59 pm »
I'd like to go with the high level pipe look. Would the best option be to import the link pipe and can bracket from Holeshot Performance in the States, or is there a UK company that could replicate the same quality item. Preferably down south, as they'd need the bike to take the necessary measurements.

Introduction / New Fazer thou owner
« on: 04 February 2016, 01:53:53 pm »
Hi one and all,
My name's Pete and live near Croydon. I'm 69 and have been around bikes since 16, always managing to have something with 2 wheels and an engine despite kids, mortgages etc. I've just bought a 55 plate with 8k on the clock, red/black. It's bog stock other than a pyramid hugger, but once I've sold a couple of other bikes to pay off the loan on this one I'll be able to get going with pipes, handlebars etc. I'm hoping to go the high level pipe route very much like the Holeshot Performance one. I know it's old school, but I am old school.  I'll do my best to read through past advice on various subjects, and hope I don't ask too many dumb questions.
