Additional LED spotlights would be a better addition. Low down mounting should help with pot hole identification

I’ve had a few VFRs, probably preferred the later 750 over the 800 but not much in it. The bars can be sorted, I had small risers which helped but helibars and LSL straight var conversions were also available https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195540016309?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tWTqQr6SSOO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=6r2EIYEFTdS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

They’re definitely a well put together bike, mileage isn’t really a problem for them so I’d go for the best cosmetic condition with fairings etc. Suspension is better as standard than a thou so no huge money to spend there assuming shock is OK. Brakes are a bit more complicated to service with the linked system but no major drama. Just remembered, some had issues with the clocks internal PCB due to corrosion. Normally fixable with a  wire track and some lacquer.

yes, propper greasy spoon...Zoom in on the piccies of the mighty thou...Needs a good wash and polish  :eek :eek :eek

Your thoughts MR ROBBO. looking at a 03 VFR 800 on Saturday. low mileage at 8000. £3000....ever riden one ? good replacement for the mighty thou ?

VFR800 pre vtec are a nice machine but expect it to feel a little asthmatic compared with the thou. Low mileage so likely not had the exhaust sorted (rotting collector boxes although I have a feeling they may have changed to stainless on later ones). Also reg / rec charging issues are common. More weight on the wrists than with a Fazer for sure.

Had a similar experience with the K-Tech bushes. Did manage in the end but bloody tight! Was reserving judgement as by eye they looked almost identical to the orignals.

Anyway, they went in and forks work as well as a standard dampened set of FZS100 forks can do!

Thanks Unfazed. Mike did my Slip On kit and the carbs haven’t been off since despite winter lay ups. Always try and use Esso 99 and some Stabil during these periods. Drained the tank last year and didn’t get any water out which was a relief.

Were these o-rings replaced during Mike’s ivanising days as part of the work?

Good job. Just be aware, if you changed the o-rings then unless they are Viton material they will likely be destroyed by the ethanol unfortunately.

Water in the fuel by the looks, almost certainly as a consequence of ethanol absorbing H2O.

Normal recommended action is to replace o-rings but leave the original float valves unless they’re knackered. Clean up and back together.

The steel inserts from a traditional style wiper blade work well. Also very handy as a fishing / hooking device 😀

Not trying to be a pendant, as a happy owner with a slip on kit modification I’m interested to understand how people get on with the full monty kit. Is it so much better that I should invest?

Well, you're already a "how to get the carbs out" specialist :lol . Are you doing the airbox mod as well?

May as well..... :D
Time to get the Dremel fired up then :thumbup

Arrived today........

Instructions downloaded and printed.  :D :D :D

Is the air box mod applicable to the ‘slip on’ kit?

The intake boot cover is the cap that goes on the balancing point spigots i believe. Link example below but cheaper elsewhere

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-Yamaha-VMX1200-XJ650-XJ750-FZS1000-TT600-Blind-Plug-16G-13569-00-/262857650089?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

For blocking the air box I used a walking stick rubber end and it fitted a treat.

Don’t know about crimping, I tapped the spigots and put button head stainless bolts in. Worked well and looks tidy.

It will just be another excuse to raise the price of the
‘E5 good stuff’ which incidentally is shit compared with the pre ethanol days.

Also note that pump prices are essentially at an all time UK high at £1.30 per litre. The last time pump prices were comparable in 2014, oil then was $120 a barrel. Today it is $75.

E10 foc u.

I had the same issue before. Couldn’t find anything to shift it other than Autoglym bumper care.

Oh, and I do always keep the bike on the centre stand and rotate the front wheel from time to time when it’s not being used.
