Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: New battery goes flat FZ1n
« on: 02 November 2023, 03:52:03 pm »
Sorry for the late reply, between work and building an extension I haven't had much time for anything else.

If the meter is set to amps that would show if it's drawing current which would flatten the battery. Just be aware that with a lot of meters you have to change which hole the positive probe plugs into to measure current.

If you or someone you know has a mutimeter, set it to amps, disconnect the battery earth lead and measure between it and the battery earth terminal.
This should tell you if something's dragging the battery down.

Just put these on my Gen2. I'm running them through a relay switched by the back light feed.

Got the lights from ebay for £16.53 (but the listing looks like it's ended) and the brackets from Aliexpress, took about three weeks delivery. Really bright and decent quality for what they cost and the brackets seem good. I was going to put a couple more pictures up but it's only letting me post one.

Full Black Widow system on mine, I got the AIS turned off so much less noise on overrun.

I think it's improved the consumption but haven't done enough miles yet to tell. Still very pleased overall.

On another note I checked my rotor, it's the old type and my bike's a 2014 plate. New one going in tomorrow.

Got my ECU re-flashed by Grant at Wizperformance. Really nice lad and knows his stuff.

£150 and he'll put it back to standard free if you're not happy. It's smoothed out the power when coming back on the throttle so more than happy.

Picked-up a brand new Nitron for £400, never been fitted and sprung to fit my weight. Still to set it up, might get a chance to look at it today.

Stripped the back end out and replaced all bearings and bushes while I was in there. I'll put a post up with pictures and part numbers when time allows.

Just found this thread as I'm about to do mine.

I think the Wemoto links above are for Gen1 sleeves but happy to be corrected.

Thanks for taking the time to reply all.

At the moment I'm going to take Robbo's advice, hang on until November and see if Nitron drop their prices- unless something else comes up.

To be honest once it's on I doubt it's ever going to get serviced, I certainly haven't ever done it in the past on any of my other bikes with Ohlins etc.

On another note, fork springs. Which is the usual upgrade, linear or progressive? Seen threads about using different weight oil in the legs for compression and rebound so will probably give that a go as well.

I'm getting the bits together for my winter jobs-list.

« on: 17 September 2022, 07:20:51 am »
I'm looking at getting  a replacement rear shock, mine has 43,000 miles on it and pogos about over potholes.

After some reading it seems that for road use, performance-wise there isn't much between Hyperpro and Nitron other than the £110 price difference.

Can anyone confirm that the Hyperpro is a good option for a gen2? I've read a lot of good reviews on the Nitron but not much info on Hyperpro.

There's a two-month lead-time on them at the moment but I'm not in a hurry.

edit: can't use R1 shock with satan's adapter because my bike's got ABS.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look.
Might look into doing it myself with a spare ECU.

Been reading about ECU re-flashing but mostly over the water.

Is there a UK version of Ivan? He seems to be the font of knowledge in the States?

Turns out the undertray on mine has been cut so no mounting points for the tip sensor or a couple of relays. I'll post a pic once it's replaced.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen2 tip sensor
« on: 19 August 2022, 07:16:22 pm »
Could anyone do me a big favour and post a picture of the position of the tip sensor and relays under the seat? I'm sorting out my new bike and someone's been in and just either wedged everything in or left it loose.

I've had a good search through the web and can't find a pic. The workshop manual doesn't seem to give detais of where everything goes.

The tip sensor is just loose under the back seat...

Thanks.

Picked-up a late-model gen2 yesterday and in the process of going through it. I had a good read through but did anyone find a printed manual, haynes or otherwise?

I like a paper manual, find them more practical in a garage with oily hands.

Ta.

General / Re: Black widow exhaust quality?
« on: 16 August 2022, 09:55:44 pm »
The Exup on the Gen2 is purely for noise dampening. It won't effect anything except the sound if it's removed 👍🏻 just makes sure to disconnect the cables from the servo under the seat too. Leave the servo in place that way you won't get any error codes and as far as the bike knows everything is still at factory spec, saves wasting £30 on a servo eliminator

Thanks for confirming this. I have an FZR1000RU and know that they run like sh#te if you take the exup valve out.

Just got a Gen2 yesterday and was a bit concerned when I started checking it over properly this afternoon that the valve had been removed.

I know I should have checked first but there-you-go. Looks like I got away with it this time for a change ..

And it seems it's got a Black-Widow exhaust, somewhere  under all the corrosion on the headers.
