Oil level check
« on: 28 January 2012, 10:00:37 am »
Hi there, new Fazer owner here,,,

Just read the post on Fazer maintenance and would like to check the correct method of checking the oil. What it said in the document was to run the bike for a few minutes then stop, let it settle and check the oil level. Normally I'd do this when the bike is cold and sitting on a level surface. Is this correct? Wouldn't like to overfill it  :o

Cheers guys,

Tefer

That's how i would do it. Just keep an eye on the oil window.

The reasons for running the bike are to a) let the oil circulate around the engine and lubricate all the parts and b) allow it to warm and expand to equate to normal operating conditions.

But you do need to do it on a level surface to avoid getting a false reading.
