No not for a thou it's all for an 8 was just an example of what I use/pay for quality parts. They can be had cheaper than buying a kit with with lower quality JT sprockets.

Rear sprocket <£38

I've never had a renthal sprocket wear (front or rear) to a point that it needs changing before the chain but if quite is that important to you then it's understandable why you'd do this.  :b
Never bought an OEM sprocket, aren't they about £40?

Lube every 100 miles, good grief, I'd have to stop on the way home every day to do that  :lol

You will always get a million different answers to this question.
Fwiw the fact is that like tyres and brake pads you should always buy the best you can afford.
TBH most people should never have to replace a c&s set these days.
I personally buy individual parts a they can often be got cheaper that way. Search eBay for the size and length of chain you want rather than for your bike and also cross reference your sprockets with other bikes too, my fazer 8 used the fitment rear  sprocket and exactly the same front sprocket as my tdm (same brake pads too)
As for what brand you should buy, well, to some extent it depends on your use of the bike.
If you're a weekend warrior then an o ring chain and JT sprockets will be fine but I'd you do more regular riding them an x-ring chain with afam sprockets.
If you are a high mileage rider like me (25000 miles/year) I would suggest DID X-RING chain and renthal sprockets.
I get around 35000 miles from a set with a scottoiler.
Ultimately though I guess money is king here as none of them are cheap.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Upgrading forks
« on: 26 May 2017, 09:51:11 pm »
If you have seen my "What have you owned" post you will probably have noticed that I've done a bit of racing.
So as with all my bikes suspension is the first thing to get changed, I have already replaced the rear shock with a Nitron NTR R2

which has made a huge difference to corner stability and entry/exit speed and tyre wear but it's never enough is it so today I ordered some replacement Andriani fork cartridges from Omnia Racing

Cant wait for them to arrive.
Once the handling is sorted it'll be getting a reflash or PCV, think the PCV might be better as there's an interface that will allow you to switch between maps and as it's my daily commuter an economy map would be preferable to a full on power map on a daily basis.
If there's such a thing as a how to section on this forum I'll do a write up of the work and maybe even a video, just in case anyone else should want to tackle it.

Had mine come on today when it hit 100 deg. Boy does it push some heat onto the back of your legs.

There were similar issues with the tdm 850's  and the xt 600.
Part of the problem there was the after market sprockets though, apparently they were ever do slightly thinner than the original.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: rear shock
« on: 20 May 2017, 09:54:31 pm »
I always replace rear shocks with Nitron units. Makes a huge difference but like any handling mods once you start you have to do everything.
Shock shows up forks, forks show up brakes, brakes show up tyres and so it goes until eventually the new package shows up the rider.
So you end up getting some training at superbike school or the like and going on track days.
The end result is just like any other addict, you end up spending all your money on it and all you can think about is your next fix, if yo don't eat so much this month you could buy that slipper clutch you've had your eye on.
My advice would be to replace the shock (with a nitron) then get some professional help (pole dancer maybe) before it takes over your life.
Don't become an ADRENALIN JUNKIE
