2 MT10 threads eh.........it must be good!.....anyway im on this one now coz its in general so should go further.

I reckon it is a modern day mt01.......aj jay reckons no.....he reckons it will be lighter than the gen1 thou & the gen 2 thou........and the tracer.

Comparing like for like though would not include the gen 1 or the gen 2 S models as they are semi faired bikes so it is against the gen 2 fz1 naked......and the mt09 naked......what say ye........i say the mt10 will be heavier than both and wont handle like the MT09 does.......plus it could end up with too much top end as usual in a quest for big stats.....like the gen 2 does.

Must be honest ive never bothered my arse to look into what a cross plne engine is........whats the benefit then.......is it torque & power in one or somethin???

Ray of Darkness

power torque agility The MT-10 is the one you’ve been waiting for. It’s by far the most powerful MT ever created. And the time has come for you to enter the next level of darkness.

You’ve done a lot of riding. So you know exactly what you want. Serious power with corner-carving precision. And natural ergonomics that mean you can ride anywhere on any road. Ride the Ray of Darkness with the MT-10.

Driven by a 998cc crossplane engine tuned for extra low to mid range torque - and rolling on a lightweight ultra-short wheelbase aluminium Deltabox chassis with a natural riding position - the MT-10 gives you ultimate power with class leading agility and total control.

Call me old if you want but I remember unfaired bikes that you could afford to crash, not saying you should but when/if you went down you'd get away with a new engine badge a handlebar grip, possibly a brake or clutch lever and a few mins polishing the scratches out of your exhaust can. Now low side that and the repair bill would probably clear the debt of a third world country. That of course is if you could actually manage to describe which parts you want..........Could I have a side pannel for a etc etc ..........which one sir......Errrrrr.

I love the yellow/black speed block scheme but don't think it would work on that shaped tank. Liking the blue jobby though.

That'll be made from softasshitus so should be fine  :thumbup

Oooohhh I like it :D

The MT-09 just always felt a little out of proportion whereas this seems a lot better... I can see me riding one of those... if I had any money...

I can just imagine the design brief meeting:
"Right lads, MT10. Naked R1. Dave, you go and design me the exhaust and the instrument cluster. Jim, you do the headlight and the swing arm. Mack, you've got the seat and wheels. Steve, handle the mudguards and the air intakes. And by the way, all of you sit in separate rooms and don't EVER talk to each other."

An R1 is what everyone's mate has when they know nothing about bikes in a conversation.

"What bike you got then?"
"600, Fazer."
"Oh.......my mate's got an R1."
"Really.....!!"

This doesn't apply to Stevierst's mates, 'cos he really does have one.  :lol

Best give that idea a miss Daz. Even if the yellow version appears, by the time they'd completed the purchase of your left bollock there would have been another 10 newer versions out

Sounds awful but I really liked it. It looked like chocolate, and I wanted to lick it  :rollin

That'll have been an r nine t not the s1r  :)
This bike will be a tool. Yeah, it's chiselled looks won't be to everyone's taste but not all bikes are. It's meant to look aggressive & it does.
It'll be very fast, have great handling & have an electronic package to allow you to get the best out of it without hopefully killing yourself. So win, win, win.
Some of you could do with test riding some of the latest models because if you did some of the ill informed comments about handling & nanny state electronics may not be so prevalent.

It looks like it has cheap plastic all over it. Look at equivalant German / Italian bikes and they look ten times better.

If they give It a fazer style top fairing and a decent sized tank I would consider it. Standard tank is only 17ltr and we all know how backward a step that was on gen 1 to gen 2. I also have a big bang r1 and its a thirsty beast!
Title: Re: mt 10
Post by: BBROWN1664 on 19 November 2015, 02:23:18 pm
:agree

A Mk1 FZS1000 fairing would be a good addition. The 17lt tank wouldn't bother me too much as that should give about 150 miles between fill ups. If I was riding it every day though, a 20+lt tank would be better.

Now that looks cool. Just needs the number plate mount tidying up rather than sticking out like an after thought.

You have all missed the point about this bike.
It was a surprise when it was launched, therefore it has been kept very secret.
If you watch transformers it looks like bumble bee, i reckon transformers have arrived and done a deal with Yamaha to hide themselves here as cool bikes.

Just saying.

I'm not sure BBrown...my Big Bang struggles to get 100 miles if ridden enthusiastically on the same size tank.

MT-10 in detail

Engine

The 998cc CP4 motor is at the heart of the R1 range, but gets some significant changes for the MT-10 to boost mid range torque, including: newly designed intake, exhaust and fuelling systems, as well as an optimised crank balance, and the R1S’ steel conrods (instead of titanium). No power figures have been released, but we expect 165-170bhp.

Rider modes

Yamaha’s D-MODE offers the rider a choice of three riding modes. 'Standard' Mode gives a smooth engine character throughout the rev range, ‘A’ Mode is essentially full-fat mode, while ‘B’ Mode softens everything off – ideal for rainy days and slippery urban streets
