« on: 17 March 2013, 11:07:23 pm »
I've always used a 120/70 profile tyre on my Fazers.... I'd raised the back end ( a bit ) and dropped the front forks through the yokes by 12mm. This made the bike handle well  :D

Bearing in mind that the steering angle of the bike matches a Ducatti 916, you'd have to have the skills of a MotoGP rider to cope with a 50mm drop..... It would be really twitchy and the ground clearance would be severely reduced.... I think Ben is winding you up just a bit  ;)

Look at the heap of shite behind Andy's bike.

Is that the same as the old golfing jape....... Watch, there's a big dodd of shite on the end of your club ! And as the bat wielding toss looks at the club end the cry goes out "Naw, the other end"

A couple of weeks ago I was in Halfords buying some bulbs. The sales assistant politely asked if I wanted them fitting..... At this point I was kind to him and asked how much they would be to fit as they were dashboard lights.

He was about to go and ask when I said it was okay, I had three hours to kill anyway lol

Why not just fit a couple of resistors, there must be lots of them kicking around as anyone who's fitted LED flashers must have used them ?

« on: 15 March 2013, 10:40:07 pm »
Why not drop the clocks out from the casing ( easy job ). Get an artist's paint brush and matt black out the figures and lines and then stick a new MPH sticker on the actual speedo dial and rebuild.

I did that on a 400 Fazer and it looked fine... Only tip would be to hair dryer the clocks before re-assembly to remove any damp air.

£80 odd quid will get you a refurbed shock with a powder coated spring and oil and gassed to your requirements... why would you buy that one ?

Fazerider explained the air gap mod...... "When I had the tank off for repair a few years back I drilled a hole in the side of the filler tube. Air escapes there as the level rises up beyond the bottom of the tube so "overfilling" the tank doesn't take long... can usually get 19 litres in."

Basically when you look in the filler neck you'll see a tiny wee hole on the RHS of the neck. I opened this up from 1mm diameter to about 14mm with a dremely type thing. On a Foxeye tank you can fill about 24 litres into the tank giving massive mileage range.

That type just look like a magnet tells the display that you've gone up or down a gear. From the spec nothing appears to go to the engine's electrics.

It will probably be okay as long as you don't ever miss a gear otherwise it'll think you're in forth ( for example ) when you've only double clicked into third gear ?

The new tank will fit your bike but if it's a pre-2000 model I'm fairly sure you'll need to swap over the fuel sender unit from the base of the tank. It's not a big job ( direct replacement ) and if you do the air gap mod you'll get around 24 litres in there.

I did this on my Mk1 Fazer which I put the 2002/3 Foxeye tank on. I got to 297 miles before it ran out.

Having said that the fuel low light was on for around 125 miles. I asked ( on the old forum ) what turns on the fuel light and no-one knew. It is not switched on by the position of the float, I got to the assumption that it was switched on by the petrol not making a contact across the guts of the sender ?

I used to have a Fazer and without luggage it was fine but even with an empty topbox it would emulate your bike.

I ended up fitting a cheapy steering damper for piece of mind mainly for when touring.

I've still got it if you want it for the cost of postage and a few beers ( the steering damper and connections / mounts, not the Fazer )  ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: clunk when braking
« on: 17 October 2012, 03:26:14 pm »
It's possible that the pad retaining springs are a bit loose allowing the pads to get jiggled back a bit while you're riding, when you apply the brakes they then clunk forward to their normal position at the front of the caliper slot. There is a mod some folks have done to the springs to improve them, but I've not seen pictures.

If it's not that, worn steering head bearings can give a similar effect under braking.

The spring locates the pads centrally in the caliper, every time the brake is applied the pads move forward ( or back depending on the direction of travel  :b ). It could be that the caliper is worn at the leading (front) face causing the metal part of the pad to slam into a groove and the mod Fazerider talks about won't work as the caliper is knackered  :(

Hope not though..... Baz  :)

General / Re: Petition for power restrictions for new car drivers
« on: 20 September 2012, 10:15:30 pm »
In Scotland recently one guy is in a serious condition and three other guys were hospitalized after two Corsa's collided..... I'm not saying they were either one litre or GTI variants but even if restricting young drivers to 20HP per ton and only allowing one passenger this would probably still have happened.

And what if the driver/s had been 24 ? Would they suddenly have become sensible and should be allowed to drive any power limit as per DAS ?

Just my tuppence worth.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: MOT question
« on: 09 August 2012, 01:01:09 pm »
I'm fairly sure that the lock-stops are part of the MOT test. I've heard stories of the repair superglue failing during the actual test.

I might be wrong and if not, you may be lucky and the tester will miss the fault.

« on: 16 July 2012, 11:15:47 pm »
Hi
I made my own the 30x5 MS strip came from B&Q
They raise the footrests up 20mm and back10mm
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/img022.jpg
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/rearsets1.jpg

I used 8mm x 20mm cap head bolts to hold the footrests with a std washer between the Brk and the footest to give enough clearance for the head of Fazer bolts holding the Brk to the bike.

Edit :- In the photo I hadn't made the gearlink extension just moved the lever around the splines.

Heres a link to an earlier post :- http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=3007.msg24310#msg24310

ATB YFM

I've got a set just like them in the garage but made from stainless steel. I'll look tomorrow and if I can find them you can have them  :)
