And to add what cable tie says. Chock the front wheel to stop the bike moving forward and off of the stand. If your bike toples onto you and you get a footpeg in the eye it will make you say 'Ouch!' very loudly.

 :lol

or alternatively strap the centre stand to the front wheel which will also stop you 'lifting' the bike off the centre stand whilst working on it - especially when doing something like undoing the rear axle nut.

Had ebay 'Chinese' levers for a couple of years now. Perfect fit, no colour fade - all in all excellent.

As said just choose a supplier with good feedback.

General / Re: Squash and the joys of !
« on: 02 May 2012, 05:03:32 pm »
I play squash about 3 times a week. Youngsters are encouraged to wear safety glasses and some clubs make it compulsory when playing doubles which has increased risk.

Touch wood, although I've suffered several scrapes and bruises through being hit by racket or ball, nothing ever serious. It's a very good game which I thoroughly enjoy and it is great exercise.

I've now also started playing racketball which is gaining in popularity. Very similar to squash but played with a larger bouncier ball and bigger shorter racket. The game is less dynamic than squash but still offers a very good workout. It particularly palces less strain and impact on the joints as a result and hence is often taken up by older players as squash becomes less viable. Also less chance of the sort of injury originally posted.

I've just refurbished the rack on my 1000. It strips down very easily to the two metal arms which can be rubbed down and repainted in the finish of your choice.

Simple enough DIY job.

Thanks guys for the confirmation

I figured the attachment would be common and it is just Givi being safety first about how much one loads the rails.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Givi hard luggage question
« on: 30 April 2012, 10:55:53 am »
I have a full set of Givi hard luggage - top box and E41 monokey panniers.

On my previous FZS600 I used a wing rack when I wanted to use the full set - no problem.

I now have a gen1 1000 with a Givi monokey rack which I use daily for just the top box. If I want to use the full luggage set I could get a 1000 fitting kit for my wingrack and swap over to that. However that is a bit of a hassle and I don't like the wingrack on all the time 'cos it's fug ugly just for a top box.

You can get pannier rails (Givi PL349) for the monokey rack but advice from suppliers seems to be that these are only suitable for E21 panniers.

So my question is this. Are these rails restricted to the E21 panniers because of the attachment method or is it just a conservative weight thing? In other words would these rails allow fitting of my E41 panniers? Has anyone done it or used panniers other than the E21? If the E41 will fit is it safe - what does the esteemed knowledge of Foc-u reckon?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ally bar ends question
« on: 20 April 2012, 03:19:33 pm »
I changed to renthal 758s too but preferred to stick with heavy bar ends ie the originals - so tapped a thread in the renthals to accept them and sprayed them candy red to match the rest of the paintwork.

Works for me.

Good spot Dave on the nitron shock ,go touring a lot 2,s up with full luggage found the OE a bit "Bouncy" so lashed out on the nitron well pleased with it .
And to answer ghostbiker i did consider painting the airbox covers but thought it would over do it a bit with the blue , so left them being as there is other black bits around the bike personal preference i guess.

Looks good although I went the other way and included the airbox covers in my colour matching - also did the bar ends!

Ton13

You are excused because you ride a 600 (and possibly because you are blond and female  ;) ).

Any Gen1 1000 rider will tell you that these parts are the relatively useless AIS system that many people remove from their bikes - nothing to do with anything relating to water.

It's a bit disappointing that someone assuming the role of a bike breaker can be so ignorant.

Perhaps we should start asking some searching questions  :)

Yup, the rear stay is bent but I think that will straighten out

Bl**dy snow.

Not a flake at home this morning but like a different world by the time I got towards work in Leeds.

Went down on an icy stretch approaching a roundabout - witnessed several bumps whilst there.

Anyway, damage is left side and I need a front fairing (preferably black), inner lhs panel and a bar end.

Or any suggestions as to possible sources.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Bar end removal
« on: 29 March 2012, 09:54:46 am »
As I recall there isn't a hex screw as such, the bar end is solid with a hex indent to facilitate screwing in/out.

So if the bar end is a right off already you could attempt removing it by just trying to unscrew the whole bar end - mole grips etc.

If this fails then hacksawing off the end and drilling out what remains is possibly the next best approach.

They are prety rare but I'm very impressed with my Renault Laguna 2.0 DCI 180GT Sport Tourer.

The GT has a trick 4 wheel steer system, a sporty suspension setup and 180bhp. Drives very well but I can also get 45mpg if driving with a bit of care. It's also very practical with a flat wide load space.

Originally got a standard model by chance as a hire car on holiday and was impressed enough to consider it when thinking of changing the family wagon. Discovering the rare GT model encouraged me further and I've not regretted the decision.

I'm on Avon Storm Ultra 2s on my Gen1 thou and have had to replace the front whilst the rear is still going strong.

First time I've ever had a front go before the rear - peculiar.

I've a shoei helmet can I take a craft knife to the polystyrene inner to accept my oxford bike mike earphones without damaging the helmet
Thanks
David

I needed a bit more clearance in my Shoei for my Autocom earphones. Instead of cutting I heated a spoon and slightly deformed the inner by applying heat. Neater and less damaging I reckon.
