General / Finding gloves that will fit: harder than usual?
« on: 22 January 2024, 05:02:00 am »
So I have regular sized hands (roughly medium to large). I have always had an issue with the fingers in most gloves being too long, but lately the situation seems to have gotten worse. Since 2012 I have been buying Richa Sub Zero waterproof textile gloves because when I could find a pair (free from manufacturing defects), they have always just fitted -

- being textile meant they werent tight across my palm and allowed unrestricted movement of my thumb.
- being textile meant they would dry out quick, unlike leather which would retain moisture.
- has Suede on the palms and sides of the index finger - great for wiping water of the visor or cleaning bugs off.
- has regular cuff length and cuff was reletively thin. So gloves were easy to get under a jack and long enough to never poke out while riding.

So I went to go buy another pair and Richa and stop selling them, instead replacing them with the sub zero 2 glove, which has a shorter cuff length, which for a mid season glove dosent make any sense to me. So over the last few weeks I have tried all the following gloves

- Richa Sonar - to thin thermally, fingers 5mm-15mm too long
- Richa Ice Polar - thick enough, fingers 5mm-10mm too long
- Bering Boogie - to thin thermally, fingers 5mm-10mm too long
- Rev'it Bornite - thick enough, fingers 5mm-15mm too long
- Dainese Livigno  - to tight & to thin thermally, fingers 5mm-10mm too long
- Furygan Ares Evo -  too thin thermally, fingers 5mm-15mm too long
- Alpinestars SR-3 V2 - thick enough, fingers 5mm-15mm too long

I have researched all of what J&S, Infinity has to offer, and have vertually gone through all of Sportbikeshop stock of textile gloves. What frustrates me of is the lack of qaulity control in the sizing, its all over the fc*king place.

So now I am trying out -

- Richa Sub Zero 2 - to see a) weither they will fit or b) if my fears about the cuff length are founded.
- Pharao Quebec WP  - Tried a pair of these on in the Harlow SBS store, they actually fitted, but there were defects in the inner linner. So have bought 3 pairs to get one good pair.

In summary, is anyone else having the same issue with gloves as I am having atm..?

The consultation is running until 5th November - click below to find out more and respond! We stopped them before, with your help we can stop them again -

- SaveLondonMC.com/camden

Nearly three years after they were first proposed Camden has just put out a new consultation on motorcycle parking charges.
We know this is disappointing news but remember this is the fourth time Camden have tried to bring in charges, and every time riders have stopped them.
They’ve provided very little information, and what they have provided is not clear - we have asked for urgent clarification and will update you as soon as we have it. What we know so far about the proposals is

Camden Council has just put out a new consultation on motorcycle parking charges -

🚨 parking permits for residents', businesses' and doctors' motorcycles to cost the same price as cars
🚨 solo motorcycle bays charged at £2.60/day (£2 for electric) costing £600/year for a commuter
🚨 riders living in 'car-free developments' face charges up to £950/year - more than any car
🚨 residents permits to nearly double from £75 to £146/year (£139 for electric)
🚨 introducing motorcycle business permits at £419/year and doctors permits at £326

It appears Camden no longer plan to ban commuting with £6/hour and maximum stay limits in solo motorcycle bays, which is a positive sign that they are listening. But the charges are still absolutely outrageous so we need your help to fight the plans! And whats worse, Camden dont seem know ther backside from their elbow when it comes to thier own policy. Visitors on motorcycles are charged more than commuters & residents....

Camden tried to do this in 2020 and riders managed to stop them - we must act together to stop them again - please share this post and spread the word to all bikers.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 3rd party rad guard for the FZ1
« on: 04 October 2023, 08:18:25 pm »
So just bought this off amazon and considering this was made in and came from China, I am pleasently surprised -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BTSXNRLM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The item was better than I expected and is made from what I think is stainless steel (non-magnetic) and the powdercoating looks tough and of good qaulity.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 stock radiator guard: How do I remove it
« on: 15 September 2023, 05:30:27 pm »
So the paint on the bottom of the radiator is flaking away and before the alloy starts irrevocable corroding I would like to paint it. As its only the botom I can paint/touch it up in-situ, but to do that I need the oem rad guard out of the way.

I wasnt able to see any screws on the guard only on the rad side panels, but watching this cool mod video its look like there are only 2 screws that hold it on?

General / Request some solo motorcycle bays from Hackney
« on: 31 August 2023, 09:33:31 am »
Save London Motorcycling & MAG need you to request a solo motorcycle bay in Hackney!

Thank you to everyone who responded to the recent Hackney consultation. Hackney are now looking at your responses and will make a decision soon so it’s vital we keep up the pressure!

In Hackney’s plan all-day parking for commuters will only be allowed in solo motorcycle bays - Hackney only has 40 of these, and they’re almost all in the south of the borough. Outside solo motorcycle bays the car parking rules will apply to motorcycles, meaning;

  • maximum stay limits or residents-only restrictions in many areas
  • prices of £22-40 per day for visitor/commuter parking where it is allowed
This means a ban on commuting by motorcycle in most parts of Hackney. The Cllr responsible, Mete Coban, has said he will deal with this by installing new solo motorcycle bays where they are requested. All you need to do is click on the link below below and send an email to Mete Coban asking for a secure motorcycle bay to be installed in a specific location.

- Request a bay

A network of secure bays will give you a safe place to park your bike on-street and reduce motorcycle theft. The Council parking team are busy with the consultation so lets make them focus on something that will actually benefit riders! There are many places in Hackney that need secure bays - the map below shows where existing bays are across Hackney, and what the charges in and outside these will be. Any areas where there aren't any bays need them urgently!

If you can’t think of a place that needs a bay just follow the below steps:

  • Think about places you need to park your motorcycle in Hackney
  • Check the map below or on our website to see if there is already a bay there
  • If not, email Mete Coban and say you need a bay installed here before the new charges come into force. Specify the location as exactly as possible
  • Repeat until you’re happy that there is enough motorcycle parking in Hackney for your needs
Map of solo motorcycle bays in Hackney - click to open in Google maps

Thank you for your continued support, and for responding to the latest consultation. Let’s keep up the fight and Save London Motorcycling.

General / HELP NEEDED: HACKNEY PROPOSED PARKING CHARGES
« on: 14 July 2023, 04:02:54 pm »
Hackney Council have released the final statutory consultation on their proposed motorcycle parking charges.

HOW TO RESPOND:

Motorcyclists need you to respond to this consultation NOW, so this is your chance to fight anti motorcycle policies and stand up for riders everywhere. The charges are an attempt to force riders out of Hackney. If we don’t fight this now it will spread all over London and then the UK.

The best way to respond is by emailing your objection to "  streetscene.consultations@hackney.gov.uk  " before Friday 04 August 2023. As this is not a normal consultation - Hackney must address each response individually, thereby we become a thorn in thier side that they HAVE to acknowledge. And if you feel like it, ping the mayor and the counciler responsible for this nonsense "  mayor@hackney.gov.uk  " & "  mete.coban@hackney.gov.uk  "

So in your response please don’t just say you oppose, but give alternative options and reasons for them to consider. This will massively hold them up as by law they must consider and respond to each individual option. The more people respond, the more likely Hackney will be forced to drop their draconian plans. We want to send a message to councils that it’s not worth their time to attack bikers! Hackney’s stated aim for the policy is to tackle climate change and air quality, so think about other options which could achieve this aim.

You can find examples of alternative options below; please think of this as only a guide and feel free to make your own suggestions in your own words. The more different options the council has to consider the better:

- No charges for motorcycles and scooters to encourage car drivers to downsize
- Increase charges for cars to target the real source of transport emissions and congestion in Hackney
- Follow the Westminster or Lewisham models with far lower charges for motorcycles
- Account for factors such as space and congestion in any charges

The consultation closes on Friday 04 August 2023. But the earlier you respond the better!

DETAILS OF THE CHARGES

Following pressure from you/us Hackney have backed down on some parts of their plans. They have dropped the total ban on all day commuter parking, and reduced the charges from their initial £60 per day. But this is not enough. The proposed charges are still absolutely outrageous:

- £10 for all day commuter parking in solo motorcycle bays. Currently these are only found around Old Street so commuter parking is still banned in the rest of the borough
- Charging motorcycles and scooters the same as cars for residents and business parking permits
- Residents permits up to £596 a year and business permits up to £1560, rising to £843 and £1800 by 2027
- Residents of ‘car-free’ developments will now be banned from parking a motorcycle

You can find full details of the proposed charges here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-fVV0cZlq9_f_oMtg7U0XlMhg-D9XQsFQ0II9F85z-4/edit

With your help Save London Motorcycling and MAG have achieved so much. We got Camden to shelve their plans, which would have banned motorcycle commuting. Hackney’s proposed charges have been delayed by over two years, with some concessions already made. Further delay could mean it’s shelved for good. This is the final stage and your last chance to make your voice heard. Please share with your riding mates, your mum, your sister, your grandad and anyone who cares about bikers! This is a vital consultation and we’ll do our best to respond to everyone as quickly as possible.

If you do one thing for riders in London, let this be it.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: Adjustable levers for FZ1/FZS
« on: 11 June 2023, 02:20:25 pm »
So I have had to return 2 sets of ajustable levers from amazon because the pivot point on the cliutch lever is either to big or not big enough to take the spacer from oem lever.

So does anyone have a set of adjustable levers for the FZ1/FZS series or can recommend where I get some. Budget is below £75, Im not interested in anything that costs significatly more than stock (eg pazzo).

many thanks.

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: Rear shock for FZ1
« on: 27 May 2023, 06:28:31 pm »
So after having not ridden the bike for a while I had forgotten how close to worn out the rear shock was. Despite Gnasher tweaking it, the lower speed comp/reb daning is not cutting it.

So am after a stock shock that I can get rebuilt or a aftermarket one that isnt worn out.

And in murica things aren't this expensive yet, but they are catching up with the rest of the western world in that regard.

General / Beware of plastic containers made out of HDPE
« on: 25 August 2022, 04:52:55 pm »
So back on the 13th september 2021 I bought 5ltr of Coma Antifreeze and Coolant, used some of itand then put the container to one side to use later. Then on the 5th of June I bought a 5ltr container of Ecover Pine & Mint Toilet Cleaner, intended use was to use to fill up my hand spray despencer when cleaning the bathroom etc. The Comma container was in the spare room and the Eco conainer in the bathroom, so stored inside and not in direct sunlight or subject to extreme differences in temps.

What do these two seemling different products have in common, they both cracked and leaked from the bottom of the container and both containers were made out of HDPE (high-density polyethylene). The Coma container was several months old and the Eco container not even 2.5 months old and both cracked/failed in the same place and then buckled leaking thier contents all over the floor. Luckly I was at home both times and managed to clean up the small amount each time.

Doing some digging I found its a known issue -

Just be aware, if you intend to store the container for a while consider sending it back to where you bought it from.
