Excellent!  :lol

I'm trying similar with my (almost) two year old daughter, so far she says "Daddy's bike. Brum brum brum!" She loves sitting on the bike but still doesn't like the sound when it's running. She'll learn.  :D

Cheers Grahamm, I always thought these types of thing were only temporary and not a permanent fix.

May well be worth getting some considering the state of the lane out the back of mine which I have no option but to ride down. I've already had 3 punctures from it.

I think the intended use is just to keep your tyre inflated until you can get it seen to / replaced. I don't think I could trust it enough to keep riding until I needed a new tyre.

What do you shiney bike owners use to get the real sticky crap off. I've emptied half a bottle of Muc-off today and barely started.

My bike is by no means shiny (a few winters and a couple of times down the road) but I find, for the really sticky stuff and especially the rear wheel, that WD40 makes life so much easier. :thumbup

We've been quite lucky up here in the north east. The snow we've had hasn't been able to lie, although it has still been bitterly cold with high winds, especially over the weekend. I live right on the coast and the sea has looked fantastic at times, lashing against the piers, sending spray at least 50 ft in the air. Still not been out on the bike either.  :\

Worth remembering before you overtake, let's say, a car signalling left. The driver may THINK he is signalling right!!!!

I was behind a car last night that had to slam the anchors on because somebody in a large van indicated left instead of right when they pulled away from the kerb. I also think the car was too close to the van for the van driver to even consider moving off.

Can't help with the lab but we have a weimaraner that barks at anything and everything, except at the back door when nature calls which we really want her to bark at.

Are there any other budding home brewers on the forum or am I alone?

Do you brew all grain, extract or kits? Do you have any favourite tipples or just tips you would like to share? Or do you have any particularly nice recipes?

Tell us what you're brewing, drinking or planning...

I'm currently drinking the remainder of a Cooper's IPA I brewed a couple of months ago and a particularly astringent pear wine that a colleague of mine made about a year ago - tastes like crap but it knocks your socks off.  :lol

At the moment I'm brewing

Cooper's English Bitter using medium DME as the fermentable
A Wilko's Cabernet Sauvignon
A gallon of pikey powered turbo tramp fuel.

Bring on the summer! 8)

« on: 20 March 2013, 01:37:09 pm »
I went to the shop at work for a coffee earlier and on my way back to the office I passed some people from the contact centre upstairs who were deep in conversation. I caught part of that conversation and now I have to sit in a slightly coffee stained shirt for the rest of the afternoon.  :o ;)

Wifey: "...but I don't really fancy her."
Bloke: "That's OK, you don't have to look at her, just buy a double ender and bash your bums together!"

I did night shift for 2 years on an IT Helpdesk on a rota of 3 on/3 off; 1 day and 2 nights, and the constant flipping of my sleep pattern eventually destroyed me. It was a good laugh while it lasted and as it was usually very quiet I spent my nights watching films or playing games on my laptop. Still, I much prefer the regular 9-5, I feel more awake and I get to spend more time with my daughter/family. Also not being on the phones now is a breath of fresh air.  :D

« on: 15 March 2013, 01:02:55 pm »
If I'm in the car I tend to slow right down to both increase the distance to the car ahead and frustrate the tailgater. If I'm on the bike I try and signal to them that I would like them to pass or back-off, if that fails, I'll pull over and stop.

A couple of years ago I rode to work on lovely New Year's eve morning, cold and crisp but dry. During the course of the day the weather changed and by the time I finished there was about 6" of snow on the roads and due to the fact I live about 15 miles from work and there was no public transport I had no choice but to ride home. I made it most of the way without any real problems until some idiot in an old 3 series BMW decided to drive up my backside. He was so close I felt violated. I tried to get this idiot to pass me but he wouldn't, and then it happened, I panicked and grabbed too much brake at a set of lights. The bike went down, trapped my leg and we both slid down the road a little. Because of the snow I couldn't get enough purchase to pull my leg from under the bike. I gestured to the guy in the BMW to help me but he just sat there with his arms crossed, smirking at me. Thankfully a woman and her teenage son were out walking their dog and they came to my aid and as soon as we got the bike over to the gutter the guy in the BMW drove off.

Ahem, I ended up using the Fazer Spares method of removing the bolts.  ;) :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Sheared a bolt.
« on: 07 March 2013, 08:54:01 am »
Cheers for the replies. Seeing as I'm a ham fisted numpty at the best of times I've gone with the option of picking up another wheel. This way, I can get the bike back on the road and also allow me time to get the existing wheel sorted properly.

FZS600 Fazer / Sheared a bolt.
« on: 06 March 2013, 04:45:17 pm »
I've sheared one of the bolts while trying to remove the old rear brake disc, is there any way I can remove it without resorting to a drill?

Also, has anyone got any tips on removing the rest of the bolts as they all seem to be well and truly stuck?

Many thanks

Looking at the posts above - where did you get the gaiters if you don't mind me asking?

I got those direct from www.pyramidparts.co.uk . They cost £19.99 plus £2.50 postage.

Thanks limax2, I've been looking for some protectors and these look as though they'll offer more protection than the regular parts.

Replaced fork seals/oil. Cleaned the front caliper pistons and replaced the pads (figured it was the best thing to do seeing as on one side both of the pads fell off the backing plates when I removed the caliper  :eek ). Replaced the pistons and seals on the rear caliper and gave it a bloody good clean. Discovered there's no coolant in the reservoir and now hoping there's not a massive leak. Ordered a new rear tyre and rear brake disc. The wife thinks this is 'becoming' an expensive hobby.  :lol

Introduction / I didn't want a Fazer...
« on: 08 January 2013, 10:52:24 am »
...but my god am I glad I got it.

Name's Carl and I'm from up north - the proper north, not the midlands.  8)

I got my FZS600 back in November 2008 and we've been through a lot together in that time, including a slide down the road in the snow and a Volvo T-Bone - it's alright though, my foot took the brunt of the impact so the only damage to my bike was a snapped clutch lever and a broken speedo. Bomb proof (except the rear caliper) I tells ye!  :lol
