Exhaust Holes
« on: 12 August 2013, 09:16:48 pm »
Evening Foccers,

Are these likely to be repairable or am I looking at a new one? If a new one is required, what are everyone's recommendations?

that can be welded,
I did that to mine it lasted a while got through an mot and a winter
however in the end I got a motad set from ebay
look for seller motad1 every so often they will list stainless ones at about £140
I think most people on this form say these are about the best fit, I would say the finish is not 100% but the rough bits are normally out of site

The original exhaust always gets a hole in that spot.
I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, the whole collector is made of cheese.
Just replace it with a stainless Motad Venom one. £150 + postage

Weird though because my old boxeye done 87k with the original downpipes on it! I used to paint underneath with a heavy duty exhaust paint to stop them

ive welded worse ones than that in the past.....yes the steel is thin, but a low setting on the welder, little bit at a time so dos`nt get too hot and jobs a good`un finish off with some vht paint....will get a few more years from them  ;)
One, is never going to be enough.....

If you do buy new ones there's no need to wait for the motad ones to show up on eBay, just phone them up say that you saw the cheap ones not long ago and ask of they have another set.
Its worked for me on 2 occasions with different bikes!

Thanks for replies folks. Don't know anyone with a welder so would have to take it into a workshop to get it done, but if weld+vht paint is cheap enough may go that way. Was wondering if it's possible to fit a new collector rather than getting a full set of downpipes? If neither of the above are feasible it looks like I'll be in the market for some shiny new motad pipes from ebay.

There's currently a set of Motad venoms on eBay for £149.99, there's also a 2nd hand set of originals from a breaker for £150, that's a difficult decision to make!

The fella who dyno's my bike can't speak highly enough of original exhausts and says they're far superior to after market ones, so on that basis and judging by the size of the hole i would look into getting it fixed to make the most of it if i was you.
