This year is the 1st year that i'm fortunate enough to own 2 bikes. Namely a FZS600 commuter and a FZ1 weekend toy. But, as soon as the salt goes down i'll be retiring the FZ1 until the Spring and just wondered if there's anything that I should be doing?
What do you guys do? I don't want to go to any extreme lengths (ie, filling engine with oil etc) but was just thinking of dis-connecting the battery and bringing it indoors and maybe once a month i'd fire it up and let it idle up to temp? Will that do? 429
General / Re: LAPTOP GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER« on: 22 October 2011, 12:57:02 pm »
It's symptomatic of age. It's not a hardware issue as that will still be performing just as well, it's to do with the useless files that build up over time that still get loaded into memory taking up valuable resources.
Adding more RAM will help but that's the same as buying a new garage to help with the useless clutter that accumaltes over time. A much better approach is to back up any personal files that you have and to completely format and re-install a fresh Windows. I do this approx once every year or so and you'll be stunned at how quickly everything loads! The only big resource drain will be anti-virus software...it's the bain of any PC and saps CPU time and memory. You could choose to turn off the real-time scanning and stop it loading up at the beginning and simply perform a scan manually every month to ensure you have no nasties. Enjoy 430

I fancy fiddling with my suspension to try and get it better suited to me. I have no particular gripes about the current setup but am aware that out of the box it'll be setup to cover the middle ground of riders/rider style etc.
So, are there any suspension gurus in here that talk of pre-load, compression and rebound with an aged wisdom that will be able to help me conquer the dark art? I'm about 80kgs, use the bike for ride out's only so generally like it a little responsive but at the same time I don't want to be crashing over every bump in the road so not much to work on I know but any suggestions are welcome. It's an '07 FZ1-S by the way 434

Knob indeed. It's just not worth getting involved though, I would have just let him pass at the first opportunity and be done with it.
I've had a fair few bellends riding like that behind me but I just can't be bothered with them anymore. Road Rash anyone? Where's me chain 435

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Knocking« on: 13 October 2011, 07:51:44 pm »Alrite Dead Eye Ditto....mine does it right now as the C&S are on 32k. As long as the knocking is relative to the bike speed (ie, you speed up, the knocking frequency speeds up) then i'd replace the chain and sprockets. Usually caused by a tight spot in the chain. 437

Heres what you do You know what, I started pulling the seat last night and could see that that's a possibility so will be giving it some welly tonight. The magnet idea would be great but typically i've stuffed a bike cover under there so there's no room to fish around in. 439
General / Re: Aaaaargh....HELP!« on: 12 October 2011, 10:32:45 pm »
Cool, thanks for the tips guys. Just got home now and had a look in the dark and I reckon that with a bit of daylight, time and patience i'll be able to pry the seat up enough to get my hand in the gap to fish about for the key.
If not, i'll see what I can do with the undertray. Cheers Brace 440

I don't think the bike came with a spare key when I bought if a few years back?? I'm going to turn the flat upside down to look for it in case it did come with one (just can't remember if it did or didn't now!).
Hodge, good advice ya git! 441

I've locked my key under the seat of my FZS600 this morning and it's my only one!! What a disaster! I was all ready to leave for work and realised what I had done.
No doubt some of you wise old folk have done something similar, any suggestions before I start drilling out locks? Brace 442

General / Re: Hard links and soft links?« on: 03 October 2011, 07:53:35 pm »
Cheers Griff....looks like a friend may have the tool we need and is bringing it in tomoz.
Don't really want to spend £100 on a tool that we'd only use once (will only be ordering DID chains with soft links going forward). If all else fails, there's a garage within a mile that we'll push it to for them to sort it. Ta Brace 444

Bollocks! Renthal don't do soft links. Anyone got any advice?

General / Hard links and soft links?« on: 02 October 2011, 07:38:27 pm »
Had a nightmare today helping a mate fit a new Renthal chain to his CBR600F. Everything was going really well, grinded the old chain off, sprocket nuts came loose nicely....it was all too easy
Well, my smugness was short lived as when we were trying to mushroom the rivet link with my chain tool it was just not happening. I noticed that the pins were not hollow so there was no way of guiding the chain tool in. Also, the force we were using was ridiculous and there was no change in shape. A quick Google later and I discover that there are also hard links rather than the soft link i expected. How the hell are you meant to fit these then!?! We're going to see if we can order a soft link instead, it's Renthal R4 SRS 525 chain so fingers crossed. I've had to lend him my FZS600 to get him back home as he lives 45 miles away. Have any of you experienced this? 446
Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: i'm baffled« on: 30 September 2011, 07:44:54 pm »
I have a Mivv stubby can on my FZ1 which came with the bike with baffle out and it was so fecking loud it was ridiculous! You couldn't even idle quietly so put the baffle on to see what it's like and now it's only moderately ear bleeding fecking loud so i'll settle for that
