Title: Scotlandshire
Post by: Looney tune on 10 April 2012, 09:25:07 pm
Noticed there are a few new Scottish/white settler  ;)  members on here now.
Was thinking about a wee meet for fish suppers somewhere for old and new members that is handy for an afterwork run/meet/head home.

Any thoughts on this or possible meeting place ?

Cheers
Russ

If anyone else wants to organise anything, feel free.
I have noticed that since I stopped making an effort to organise meets we haven't had any, so one and all step up and sort it.

how about Dumbarton?  :D
Title: Re: Scotlandshire
Post by: Looney tune on 12 April 2012, 12:53:37 am
how about Dumbarton?  :D

That seems Perfect Gringo, then every can enjoy going through Glasgow after it takes us upto an hour to get there, then back through to get home  :pokefun :D

If anybody looks at a map Lanark looks the obvious choice. Roughly the same distance for the majority from Glasgow area, Edinburgh ish and lonely me down here. That way you even get a wee bimble on yer bike there and back. The chippy there has ample parking and one can 'sit in' if one choses. Thoughts anyone !!

When :- A week night, I suggest a Wednesday as we can check the forecast on the Sunday/Monday and post up if you are going. Again,Thoughts.

Cheers
Russ

I'd probably be interested in meeting some folks, I am a new member in West Lothian and Lanark does sound good. Would not be able to do a Monday or Thursday night due to other commitments.

Post by: Dunky on 12 April 2012, 08:18:14 pm
Good call Russ and Lanark sounds like a better venue and as you say it will give the bikes a wee run out.
As for a night I think a midweek night sounds just the job bring on the late nights and good weather.

Post by: Looney tune on 04 May 2012, 08:20:30 am
T'other night in Lanark, myself and Balloo the whale eater, were trying to get Baz,Gunky and Tefer to go to Springmeet (go on, it's brill )
and spoke about which way we were going down to the meet. If we were to travel down the way we came back last year we could pick up Dooks and Fluffs and anyone else for that matter on route. Dooks and Fluffs normaly leave between 2pm and 3pm so the question is :-
When suits everyone for the journey down ?
Answers on a postcard, but on here would be better  ;)

Or if someone has another plan let us know.

Don't know where Disky got the the idea of Callander big guy I thought it was to meet in Lanark and meet up with Russ but I'm not fussed where we end up just lets get out there when the sun shines.
On the other hand Russ might be up for a wee jaunt over the pass and through Callander but we do need to think about as central a location for everybody.
Again I will go with the flow mate.

I'm a defo for Lanark tonight, if we are early enough you never know where we will end up !! I'll be at chippy for 6.30.

Callendar, Dukes pass etc sounds good and if the masses prefer to go that way for a meet then go for it. Time and distance wise for me on a week day is not viable, as doing half the return journey in the dark avoiding deer and rabbits is not appealing.
This would make a good bank holiday bimble one day  :)

Gunky Dunky, Neely and Andy will be there tonight, not sure about anyone else tho.

24th June 2012 - EU Hands Off Biking EU Hands Off Biking! A Motorcycle Action Group Campaign
On September 25th 2011, MAG organised a Demo against new anti-motorcycle legislation proposed by Europe. It was the biggest mass ride-out of bikes this country had ever seen, with a total in excess of 40,000! The next Demo will be on Sunday 24th June 2012. This time the rides will coincide with each of the 12 EU Parliamentary Constituencies in the UK. All rides leave their start point at 1pm prompt. Some rides have dispersal points, some have finish points where you can park up and chat about the amazing event you have just been a part of!
We are not trying to 'beat' the turnout from last September, we are targeting the constituencies of MEPs who can vote in Europe and make a difference. But obviously, the more bikes the greater our impact, so please see details below for a start point near you.
Please see https://www.facebook.com/pages/EU-Hands-Off-Biking-A-Motorcycle-Action-Group-Campaign/265550043541800 (https://www.facebook.com/pages/EU-Hands-Off-Biking-A-Motorcycle-Action-Group-Campaign/265550043541800) and www.mag-uk.org (http://www.mag-uk.org) for more information.

Scotland Constituency Ride
Start Point: Glasgow - Kelvin Way Gather from 12 noon for 1pm setoff.
Dispersal Point : Disperse at Junction 2 M8 Near Edinburgh.

Observe subject one. This case shows various symptoms but the most prevalent appears to be checkitootia.
This is a complex condition but can thankfully be simplified by merely stating that the patient has innate and almost carnal desires to exhibit feelings of euphoria and glee when allowed to actually manifest. Their feeling arises from change and specifically, change from the absolute norm. When the norm exists, the collective consciously gravitate towards parity, acceptance and even, on occasion, derision, depending on the extent of the condition. However this case is somewhat different in that it seems to harbour this compulsion for acute, rampant and unabashed exhibitionism under the right environmental factors.

Research is, admittedly, still largely inconclusive in this particular area, however, given what we have determined thus far from the scant empirical data gathered and indeed, the case in question being allowed time to develop their position, it appears that this end is mainly born from the individual being suddenly in possession of a VFR

How do G(D)unky  ;) ,

Ma wee story.

All those who know me will know that from July I am to busy to play as I start the crazy hour season. September is a little better as I can manage a Sunday afternoon off, unfortunately this year I managed to bag me a dose of pneumonia  :eek . This was at the beggining of September and didn't know I had it till I landed in hospital in a pretty poor state over 2 weeks later. After a week in hospital and X-rays 4 weeks later, my lungs were still full of shit. I have an appointment for X-rays on the 30th but going to the doctor tomorrow as I've had a shit weekend.
Other than that, all is well and if anyone fancies a bimble down to Thornhill let me know. My boss has bought a hotel there and I'm sure lunch would be a cheapish event, would be good to have a wee meet.

All the best
Russ  :)

Been staying at Inverardran House at Crianlarich since 2004 when I did my first Scottish National Rally, loved it so much did the next year too, then came up with groups of friends each successive year until 2010. last two years have come up from Kent in car with the dogs, as can't persuade anyone else to come up on a bike!
Found roads around that area amazing, explored all over the Highlands up to Dornoch and across to Aberdeen to see my Aunt.

I know it's a game of take your chances when they come, which Juve were great at. But how can you when you get wrestled to the ground every time a good chance comes your way (apart from Efe).

Hope you weren't at Sevco's game at Annan in one of those double deckers !! they were told to park elsewhere as the top decks were full of supporters watching the game without paying as the 'stadium' was so big they could see over, oh how the big league feels  ;)

meals are very reasonably priced and hes biker friendly too..

Meant to say Kenny, you had only just left Jon and i at that lay by when a Lamborghini slowed down on the opposite side of the road from us and started revving his engine as he cruised down towards the tunnel, as much as we were tempted to give him a run for his money, he was going the wrong way for us.. :lol , pity you left when you did or you could have got that front wheel of yours of the ground for a bit.. :)

I'm probably stuck with the kids (loving father huh!) this weekend since SWMBO is working and need to sort the rear tyre on the blade anyway as the existing one is down to the markers (can't think why...). I've got a spare in the garage that has been sitting for about 2-3 yrs (I replaced it with a new one when going touring the Alps but it only had a couple of thousand on it so kept it). Question is whether it's safe to put a tyre on that's been lying about for that long (dry conditions). I reckon the sensible answer is 'no' but maybe it'll see me through on the odd few runs left this year ready for replacement next spring - hmmmmm...

Shouldn't be long now till we get a dry 2 or 3 days, maybe even get the bike out in March !!!

It's rained or snowed here every day at some point since the 29th December. If evolution is on course we will soon be born with webbed feet.

My FZ6 has been used for commuting almost every day all winter - it's been wet & cold  most days but not TOO bad + I am only going about 14 miles. There have however been a couple of days where the roads have been totally dry - which I reckon is very unusual for this time of year. Needless to say the blade is tucked up in the garage sucking on optimate and hot cocoa!

Looking forward to some good runs this year and catching up with folks.

Working far too hard at the moment sadly - haven't had time for any bike runs so the blade hasn't been out the garage yet. Am hoping for a quiet weekend this weekend to get some time to give the Fazer a good clean (manky from commuting) and to give the blade a one over before blowing some cobwebs away!

Now then, I've just popped in to the intro's section and there seems to be a fair few Scottish members kicking about.

Would anybody be up for a week night meet somewhere south of Glasgow within sensible reach for foccers who work till 5 ? Food at venue while we do our shit talking would save time. Lanark was the last meet but please feel free to suggest another place to meet.

Let's us know your thought's, old and new members apply within, spread the word via anyway you know.

This will end up a short notice event as the weather is just shit and unpredictable just now.

On another forum I use to be on they use to get a Scottish gathering on a weekend meet early plan a route and disappear for the day stopping for lunch and then riding in the afternoon til we said our goodbyes, we've had rides up as far as Mallaig, Fort Augustus or Oban via the Appin road taking in the Kinlochleven loop great road just a thought would be up for summit like that, don't really see the point in meeting somewhere for a chat when we could be having some fun on the bikes

I'm up for that, we have some of the worlds greatest motorcycling roads in the routes mentioned on our doorstep......I love going up though Loch Lomond, Tyndrum, Glencoe, Fort William then on to Mallaig and back down via Oban to Inveraray and home again.........some great roads and great scenery too

The post I put up was to reignite the meet we used to have for a catch up and new members to meet up with the old so to speak.
Personally weekends are hard for me as I work 7 days and see my son every other weekend which doesn't give much time for the other people close to me.

You can fire on and do what you want, but I'll say one thing, if a weekend run is what you have been craving for why didn't you put a thread up saying so ?

For me and some of the others it's more about the chin wag than the run. The reason we picked Lanark was it's even distance between most of the interested members and the road from Douglas to Cumnock, great road and easy for people to peel off for home.

I know you weren't having a go, I'm just a grumpy Foccer  ;)
