Mileage comparison?
« on: 14 September 2015, 09:09:43 am »
Hi all,

Hope you don't mind me asking a silly question?
How does the fuel economy and range compare between the FZS600 and the FZS1000?
I'm looking at upgrading to a FZS1000 (probably 01 plate) and mainly be using it for commuting to and from work and a bit of weekend riding?
I normally put about £15 in my FZS600 and get about 160 miles out of it as its mostly urban/mid speed riding i do, no motorways or 50mph+ roads.
Also do you think the FZS1000 would b a bit over kill for this as I really do like the look of the bike and love my FZS600 just looks a bit dated now and want something with a bit more power in case i want to start taking the missus out and about.
Thanks

Just Fazered

I feel sorry for your missus, does she normally stay at home and never get out unless you get a bigger bike?  :rollin :lol

i get around 55mpg on a run from my Fzs 1000 and have travelled 220 miles on a full tank before refuelling, so there was still mileage left before it would be empty. I should point out that I am a 64 year old who doesn't ride hard, more looking at the scenery, gentle acceleration, and keeping to the speed limits.

Fuelly is your friend. There you can see the stats from many bikes  :)

http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/yamaha/fzs1000_fz1

Looking at the stats most FZS1000 bikes do between 40-45 UK MPG.

Do not forget to change the Units in the top left corner to UK otherwise you will see some weird US mpg ratings  :eek

I normally put about £15 in my FZS600 and get about 160 miles out of it as its mostly urban/mid speed riding i do, no motorways or 50mph+ roads.

Would you be more specific how many litres you put for these 160 miles? Or what was the price per litre when you have put £15?

I used to own a Honda X11 and we always used to go out together but since i had my Fazer shes not been on that one, but just fancied something a bit bigger and the look of the FZS1000 is a lot better than my old Boxeye fazer and all the foxeyes i have seen arent great or high priced.

I get approx 10 miles per litre  (45mpg) or more. Stock shock is a bit under sprung for 2 up. You might need to factor in a better shock (or at least a respring) unless the pair of you are very thin! Otherwise your headlights will be too high 2up and you'll see no road and get cars flashing you at night cos they'll think you're on high beam.

I usually get about 44-45mpg on the thou and about 52-55mpg on the 600 if that helps.
FZS600, Speed Triple 1050, FZS1000, DT175MX etc.

02 fzs 1000 here. Chopped in a SV650 for the same reasons. As said previously the rear shock is soft if you are both 'normal' weight  ...... but it still handles perfect.

The 600 does about 10 miles more to the gallon than the 1000.
