New FZS600 guy from Peterborough
« on: 22 April 2013, 10:00:25 am »
Hi guys and gals,

I've been watching the forum (and occasionally posting) for a while in anticipation of picking up my '03 Fazer 600 this weekend just gone. T'is a lovely bike and taking some getting used to after having a 2000 CBR600F. Not better or worse, just different  :)

Hoping to get out a little more this summer as compared to last (blasted rain). I'm based in Peterborough if anyone locally wants to meet up for a ride out.
Anyway, as  :useless , here goes.

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Thanks for the welcome, and it is the fastest colour... red is sooo 90's

The sun shone all day Saturday when I picked her up, and so far, most of this week.

Now all I've got to do is stopping looking at modifying the hell out of it and I'll be cured. Really, it doesn't need a slightly louder exhaust. Nor does it need clear indicator covers. Or angel-eyes for that matter..... but they'd all look/sound so good  :D

Always hard not to upgrade/modify them!

K&N filter is a good start if it's not got one already. Get some black high temp paint on those down pipes to preserve them too, until you give in and buy stainless downpipes and a louder end can  ;)  Clear indicator lenses are a great cheap mod that really brightens up the look of the bike. I couldn't belive how much sharper it looked when I put them plus my black double bubble screen on.

T'is fitted with a pipercross filter, and a light tint screen (anyone after a cheap blue one as I have it kicking around). The previous-previous owner fitted hyperpro fork springs and shock spring too as he said it suited his weight a bit more and stopped it bottoming out. Sure helps in the corners and feels a bit closer to my old CBR.

Maybe just the indicators for now. I actually like the look of the standard ones but definitely looking at clear dark smoke lenses e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360480887821?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I haven't found a set of aftermarket ones yet which don't seem to stick out like a sore thumb. Standard ones might be big and boxy, but they usually fade into the background.

I'd heard that the later Fazers come with stainless (still painted) downpipes, but that the welds (stupidly) aren't stainless. I've already looked into it as it was something I did to the CBR fairly easily. Keeping my eye out for a bargain to stick in the shed till the time that they're needed  :D .

Ye, you're right about the downpipes, stupid idea by them but never mind! keep them clean and a good coat of high temp paint every now and then seems to keep them alive a bit longer but then again, they rot from the inside out usually...  :rolleyes

I've got clear lenses on my blue foxeye and love them. Thought the orange ones made the indicators look terrible and a bit too retro disco for my liking.

I'm in Harborough, always happy to go for a ride out  :)
Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one.  Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.

I hear there's a nice road between Harborough and Uppingham that I've been meaning to get out on.
