Hi,

As the title suggests, my fzs600 is running really rough and vibey up to 5000 revs, then it gets a bit better.

Symptoms:
If I try to accelerate hard up to 5000 in gear it Judders badly. I've had to nurse it home. Ran fine this morning. Even gently increasing the throttle makes it vibrate like Im about to stall

Things I can think that might have affected it:

1)It rained pretty heavy today and I had something similar ages ago after rain (but no way as bad on the Judders)

2) had the cam chain checked recently and while the chain was OK be did move the tensioner on one click.
3) related to the tensioner, since then the throttle has had more free play than normal.
I can't think of any other changes,

Any advice or help would be great.

Cheers

Hi All... and more specifically Pickle I think...

It has now come the time where I need to replace my original downpipes and rather than start a new thread I figured I'd message on here.

Pickle - what was the best price you got from Motad? I'll be calling next week but figured I should see what they offered you before i do.

Thanks

there is Infinity Motorcycles near Clapham North as well. I've used them to get a few gaskets in etc, not sure on accessories though. Mostly online for that stuff.

Thanks Jules and Unfazed :)

What's strange is he owns the 98 model so I'd think he'd know :/

Anyway, that's good to know, thanks :)

FZS600 Fazer / Cam Cover Gasket?
« on: 28 July 2015, 11:53:26 am »
Hi,

Me again, so having booked in the bike to do the valve clearances as well as the carb rubbers, I've been advised I'll also need to change the Cam Cover Gasket... Wemoto don't stock one and I'm not even sure what exactly I'm looking for (Matt at OMC advised it). Any ideas where I could get one and if someone could tell me if it's known by another name or anything, that would be great

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Cam Chain
« on: 24 July 2015, 02:51:00 pm »
Hi All,

So I'm taking my bike into the Oval Motorcycle centre next week to do the carb rubbers, the valve clearances and to balance the carbs as well.

Not going to lie, there's no way in hell I'd attempt all that on my own so glad I'll have Matt to help out where necessary.

One question though, my cam chain is rattling a lot but Matt advised that unless I actually replaced the sliders (I think) as well as the chain, it would only be doing half a job... I'm probably not going to do this next week, but I guess I wondered, is doing half the job worth it?

I had some work done this week and when I picked it up he started a 2002 model fazer so I could hear how it should sound.... it was SO much quieter than mine! I'm thinking I'll get Matt to have a listen when I'm there, but wanted other foccers thoughts and input really.

Cheers

Got it in eventually. Chain is within the tolerance but at the lose end of it.

Think it might need a new cable as it's pretty slack and I'll tighten the chain as well.

Hey, so assistance needed please.

Even with clutch in I can't get neutral and it won't start in gear.

I think the cable must be too stretched and do not fully engaging causing the above.

Does that sound right? Any thoughts on fixing it?

Have changed the levers a few weeks ago so night try the old one in the hope it pulls it enough.

Help appreciated,

Haydn

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments, some interesting points and what I've definitely decided is that I'm not using the Yammy man who suggested the £500-600.

Tomorrow I'm going to pop and speak to Matt at OMC and get his thoughts. I'm lucky in that I don't need it for work as I can walk it in 20 mins anyway. I think what I'll end up doing is booking a day to check them as well as do my breaks and some other small stuff. With Matt there hopefully if I need anything he can assist and I'll get to learn stuff.

Hopefully between you peeps here and Matt I'll get it sorted so my money gets spent on petrol and not an expensive dealership.

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / 48000 mile service
« on: 02 July 2015, 10:52:02 am »
Hi Foccers,

So my lovely Fazer is approaching her 48,000th mile and as such needs to have her valve clearances checked. Having called a Yamaha dealer yesterday for an idea of cost I was somewhat shocked by the £500 to £600 figure!

Having got over the shock I'm now considering the option of doing it myself. Not sure how many of you know of the Oval Motorcycle centre, but it's ran by a mechanic where you can go, use their tools etc and get help while doing maintenance work. I've been there for work on my exhaust and my first oil change and as the mechanic also has a Fazer I'm thinking it might be worth doing it there.

I guess my question is, how complicated is the work? If you've done it before, what are the concerns/pitfalls I should be aware of.

I don't have a spare £600 for the service so I think DIY is currently the best option to keep her running well, but I also don't want to break her. I've not done much mechanical work,

Thoughts? Comforting words?

No one in the family really had bikes. My old man had a Vespa in his 20's but apart from a few months when an Uncle had one I was never around them growing up. Quite simply, I've always thought they looked cool.

I got some money from my PPI claim and was initially thinking of a scooter. I live in London so a car made no sense and as I looked more into it I decided a bike would be better. Got a YBR 125 and loved it, but after riding it back to the midlands at Christmastime I realised I needed something bigger. Did my DAS 5 months after buying the 125 and having sat on a 600 once I could never enjoy the smaller one again.

Been riding the Fazer 2 years now and it's by far one of the best decisions I've made. My niece and nephews love the bike though so hopefully I'll be able to help inspire them to take it up  :)

Hi,

I may have dreamt this, or it may have been in another forum... but I saw relatively recently someone who had fitted a spot light to their indicator for when on full beam. I was trying to find the post and can't so I thought maybe one of you eagle eye foccers could help me?

If it was on another forum I apologise, I promise I don't cheat on you lot usually, it was a one time thing, honest  ;)

FZS600 Fazer / handlebar Risers... this OK?
« on: 21 April 2015, 08:03:41 pm »
Hi,

So I've just fitted some risers I got from m and p in the hope they're going to ease some of the strain on my left shoulder (result of an off a couple of years ago).

Having fitted them there is a gap at the bottom (see pics) as the front of the original top seems to be bigger than the bottom.

Question is, is this OK? I've done them up as right as they were but thought I should check what people thought

Cheers

BBROWN1664 - Cheers for the route, will take a look, sounds good :)

slimwilly - I went to see my folks who were on holiday in north Wales last year (between Barmouth and Harlech). Road up to Snowdon and back in glorious sunshine with barely any traffic. Easily my best day on a motorbike, including a trip to Normandy for the D-day landings anniversary

HarryHornby & midden - I hadn't and I'll have a look. Would be nice to ride with some other people instead of on my lonesome Whereabouts do you meet up?

« on: 20 April 2015, 12:15:03 pm »
Hi All,

As the title suggests, I'm based in South East London (Technically Kent) and am after some advice about where to head for some fun roads.

I've found a few nice roads around Knockholt and down towards Hevers Castle but only really by luck. I'm happy to head further out, last year I road down to Battle for the fun of it and found some nice roads on the way. In fairness, after commuting in London, anything with a tree by it seems exotic!

Anyway I'm hoping to go out this Saturday and wondered if anyone knew any nice routes around the area. I realise I probably need to get outside the M25 (and to be honest, that's a bonus, the air is much cleaner there  ;) ) but if anyone has any tips I'd love to find some nice roads.

Cheers

Went to the Oval Motorcycle Centre for a maintenance course.  Not sure if people on here know about it (for those outside London, maybe not so useful anyway), but essentially you rent a bench at the garage by the hour to work on your bike using their tools, bike lifts etc. It's decent rates and Matt (the mechanic who runs it) helps when you get stuck or need some advice

Anyway, as a relative Noob it was really good to get more information on the basic checks and work I can do. I'm definitely going to be looking to do more work on it from now on... Matt may be on here as he's a fellow Fazer owner, but I have to say, it was really useful. Learnt a lot, got to talk about bikes and as mine was the guinea pig for some of the work, I've now got a nice lubed chain and had my brakes checked  :)

*technically I went last night, but I was too tired to post when I got home
