FZS600 Fazer / Re: Reupholstered seat, underseat storage?!
« on: 21 January 2016, 08:15:22 am »
I believe the strap is for the service/instruction manual. Obviously I don't bother with that.

Normally sat under my seat is a microfiber cloth to dry a wet seat/grips/tank, a cargo net for the times I need to pick up spare nappies from Tesco and a long sleeved t-shirt for when the weather turns.

I should really stick some wd40, gaffer tape, cable ties, puncture repair kit, co2 canisters etc in there, but then it'll upset its delicate weight balance.

all sorted now guys, thanks for the input and explanations.

T'was the battery after all. Buy new one, charge it, fit it hit started button and vroom.... lovely.

As for the bumping (oo er), I've tried a couple of times, obviously with a knackered battery and i'm just shattered by the time I'm a hundred yards down the road, having to push the bike back to drive. I did have a cyclist stop once to give me a hand. And I dropped my CBR a week before a guy was coming to view and subsequently buy it. Luckily, just a scuff to the generator cover and a snapped indicator.

Cheers all.

Thanks His Dudeness, that's a very comprehensive description. I must admit my ignorance of the finer points of electrical  bits and bobs but I'm always willing to learn.
I've bought myself a new battery today as I've been having problems with mine for a while now. I'm going to charge it up tonight and give it a whirl tomorrow.
I'll also at some point get round to going over the electrical connections and the earths with the cleaner and grease, once my wife allows it. ;-)

By the way, I hate bump starting, I'm always afraid I'll drop it just as I jump on. Plus I live on a main road.

I was thinking that it was the battery more and more last night.

I'm off to pick one up today so that I can try it out.

I'm not sure of the voltage when the starter button was press as I just whipped the battery off to get the relay out as I thought I'd broken something.

I also had a rather impatient wife who wanted me to look after our 7 month old daughter, which wasn't really conducive to working on the bike.  :'(

I always thought it wasn't a good idea to jump-start off a car lest it blow something else up?

I can test the static voltage which is 12.4v so 75% charged but the bike won't start due to the relay so I can't do either of the other checks.

For the sake of a few quid I might just buy another relay.

I just wanted to make sure I hadn't done anything wrong or stupid.

« on: 15 November 2015, 12:38:50 pm »
Not sure what's going on, I had the bike off the road for a couple of weeks so I could get the downpipes replaced and when trying to start it up again, killed the battery.

I charged it up and today hit the start button to get a buzzing, clicking noise from the starter relay.

The question is, is it screwed or is there some magical way of sorting it.

All the fuses are good but the battery could probably do with being replaced if I'm honest as the alarm (now removed) killed it a couple of times.

General / Re: Insurance Legal expenses cover
« on: 10 November 2015, 11:30:53 am »
Was looking at legal cover recently when doing the house insurance.
If you read most of the small print, it'll  cover you for personal injury, employment  disputes and pretty much anything that you might need legal help with. Some even include free will writing services.

In other words,  get it with one product i.e. car insurance, and you won't need to get it with your bike/house/pet/breakdown cover.

Finally fitted my downpipes  but have to wait for a new silencer gasket as the link pipe is only 50mm as opposed to the standard 51mm gaskets that most bike shops stock. It's a pain 'cause I just want it back on the road.

Amazingly (!), there's also a four page feature in Practical Sportsbikes this month.
Could this all be just an amazing coincidence or are these bike journos getting lazier?

A lot of the bike a magazines share offices...

For example, Ride, Bike and Practical Sportsbikes all have the same office in Peterborough. You'll be surprised what you'll find crosses over.

General / Re: Anybody had any brackets cut by laser?
« on: 13 October 2015, 09:08:11 pm »
What sort of brackets are you after?

As with everything, prices reduce with quantity... i was qouted £87 for a pair of dogbones to be cut and powdercoated black, or £30 for stainless. In the end just did them on the Bridgeport at work for the price of the material.

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust nut choices...
« on: 13 October 2015, 07:28:16 pm »
So... looking to get my exhaust changed as I'll be cutting them off to save any major difficulties (hopefully) and there are loads of different ideas on what's best to replace them with i.e.
Stainless domed
Brass domed
Normal flanged.

I like the idea of domed (particularly brass) but I'm not totally sold.

Thoughts?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: LED headlight conversion for FZS600 2001
« on: 12 October 2015, 12:34:55 pm »
I've got a set of the Cree U5 LED spot lights fitted to the sides of my radiator on some brackets that replace the existing covers.

They aren't that bad really, just bloody annoying that every time you turn the bike on/off they go into one of three modes: full brightness, 50% brightness and flashing. They even switched to flashing while I was on my way to work.

I need to strip the PCB out of it and remove half the gubbins to just have them on full brightness. Just not got round to it yet.

General / Re: Do you show the finger on close calls?
« on: 23 September 2015, 11:50:37 am »
I was driving the car a couple of weeks ago coming upto a roundabout in the right hand of two lanes, the right hand one being marked for traffic to go straight across, the left hand one for traffic turning left.

Two bikes then appear from behind, in the left hand lane, the first one goes straight across. The second, now just behind and stuck in my blind spot, opts to cut across the back of me and overtake ridiculously close to the central reservation, and almost wipes himself out. He then gives me the finger, all because he couldn't or didn't read the road signs.

Made me angry that I could've knocked him, and his passenger, off. Took me a while to calm down and think he'd just assumed that the roundabout was like most others in that  you normally go straight on in the left lane.

I've seen it done with ratchet straps too but might just see if my local bike garage can do it. Oh well.

47
Cheers for that Deadeye but they're too big and won't fit.
I could just buy a set but for one use seems a bit overkill if i could beg/borrow some :-)

Where's collection from?

As per the title, I'm in need of some spring  compressors and wondered if anyone has any that i could borrow for a couple of days.
I've finally got my replacement spring through for my R6 shock and need to swap it over.
If there is anyone in the Peterborough area +20ish miles that would lend me some that would be great.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Downpipe choices
« on: 11 August 2015, 02:40:00 pm »
When I was looking for downpipes for my CBR6 a couple of years ago,  motad sold their venom range for approx. £180 or you could get them on ebay occasionally from motad for £160 as opposed to the £233 it was for their mptad range. Exactly the same pipes,  just a different grade of stainless, and a shorter guarantee period.. But on their website now the only mention of venom for the fazer is the end can and link pipe.

You could try calling them to find out if they still do the venom downpipes for the fazer. A look in their ebay should a few weeks ago showed no end of downpipes for hondas and suzukis but few yamahas.

With the amount of people after new downpipes at the minute, me included, perhaps we could negotiate a discount for a group buy.
