had it done last year and although i toped it up by hand in some of the most exposed areas every couple months (spray can on to a rag and quick wipe over) it realy mad a big diff in to how fast the bike falls apart :P

mine is kept outside and used on and off all year round, i live not only in a sea side town but 30 yrds from a sand / salty beach. think road grit all year round as when its windy i sometimes have to dig the bike out lol

i wish i could afford to get it done again this year but cant.
highly recomend it to anyone thinking about it though.

i know of two other ppl that had something sim, but 2nd time they went in there wasnt any probs with it at all.
real bugger but at least they got it jump started :)

2 years ago i was in for an opp and affter comming out and in recovery they thought i was mid heart attack, i then had 4 more attacks over the next 2 days. oddly i was standing talking and having no ill effects from these heart attacks lol. it turns out the settings on the ecg in recovery had been moved and as the ecg on the ward was broken they had to keep borrowing an ecg, sometimes from recovery and sometimes from the ward the other side. as they were on diff gain settings it kept showing a heart attack each time they compared.
finaly a studet doctor came in and spoted the mistake lol and i was released in a matter of hours. having never had a problem to start with.

the mind boggles sometimes

A lot of the mk1 600 guys i know fit HID's but off hand i dont know any 1000's that have. oddly as i was going along the other night i was thinking how good the 1000 lights were. i might try the philips bulbs or something along those lines but otherwise im happy with them.

General / earplugs
« on: 03 October 2011, 01:17:08 pm »
Apart from a try of earplugs many years ago i have never realy worn them.
but affter picking up a few free packs at the BMF i went for a 220 mile ride on sunday with a pair in. just the cheap yellow type foam ones.

First thing i noticed is wow everything sounds odd. followed by hmmm never heard that sound from the engine before and then spent the next 20 miles not watching the road but just cocking my head to 1 side convinced the bike was missfireing lol. it isnt btw :P

once settled in i found i was running in way to hot on corners and im sure it was because i couldnt hear the revs as clearly and there fore was miss judging speeds. once i got to the half way point i took them out and on the way back found the bike loud and rattly lol but felt better on the ride itself.

So i think from now on i might use plugs on long Mway trips but if out having fun on A / B roads then no way lol.

So what do you guys do about plugs? how many have actualy spent loads on the expensive ones? are they that much better?

With the way cars and bikes are now mechanically, they are more than safe at 100  its the driver / rider that may lack the skill.
I would be happy to see it raised to up to 100. and would be happy to see the police spending more time pulling over dangerous drivers rather than speeders.
i doubt many would actually drive much faster than 80 anyway as the cost of fuel on a long trip allways nags at the back of your mind now.

cant remember the way i did it, but i know i had to pay extra to do it as all the pre made set ups wouldnt allow it. also i couldnt get it right up to the edges as it kept saying it wouldnt print. so theres a gap around the logo.

but once started i could just click the edge and stretch it and drag it where ever i wanted.

they were just some vistaprint ones.
fairly basic ones with the old logo across the top and some txt. and then just plain txt on the back
did on an offer that worked out as about £11 delivered for 1000 cards
can do slightly cheaper if you catch the offers right but i wanted the logo and txt on back, both you pay extra for.

for me the biggest advantage is it isnt yuku :P

ill just click each section (general/bike hints and tips/bits and bobs) for unread posts, (thats a nice touch i like it.) then once done hit the mark all read.

as you say its adapting how things are done, its amaizing how such a tiny thing suddenly stands out when its gone lol.

Tiny point that i miss is the mark all read button. i know i can do it on areas here but there isnt a base one that hits all areas in 1 go.
i just used to use it to pick up new posts that might interest me or popular ones. right now i need to do it 3-4 times where as before it was once and was blisteringly fast to.

realy doing a kick ass job guys :)

Yuku is still down for me
But once its back up fully we should go back until you guys are ready for the move. rather than having the move thrust upon you because yuku went down.
BIG respect for you getting it to this stage. It works and seems stable. most of the rest of it is just cosmetic trimmings and posts/stickies

Thx a lot guys, Manual finaly arrived today (2 weeks to get here /sigh)
Ran the tests (pretty much as FZ-rich said) from the manual and its a faulty relay
will track one down this PM and replace.

Just as an aside, for part numbers and descriptions i offten use http://www.cmsnl.com/ they have a lot of bikes listed and offten can help looking at how something is put together. the part numbers have allways been right so far. although i havent actualy ordered from them i just take the part number to my stealer.

Why not just change the fuse.....?

It's in the FUSE BOX by the way.  :rolleyes

Umm because it would be pointless as they are fine?
I pulled all fuse's before i started the thread and tested with a meter. (tested all of them as untill the haynes manual arrives i dont know which one if any would effect the fan)
Also checked conections on what looks like the temp sender and the connections on the fan, both clean and looked fine.

since posting i checked the conections on everything that unplugs under the seat and side panels... well may as well do them all untill i know what one i need lol

Hmm well just taken a quick look (wish my damn haynes manual would arrive :( )
i think i found the 4 wire relay you refered to but its not exactly where you said and its not the same wire colours lol.

i think this is the relay

the 4 wires

2 wires seem slightly thinner (but not by much)

Spot on, i will take a look tomorrow
I did think about fitting a switch, but to be honest its rare i sit in traffic and even rarer that we get warm weather in the UK lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Switch or motor?
« on: 29 June 2011, 05:17:07 pm »
I noticed shortly affter the winter if i was in realy heavy traffic and couldnt be arsed to filter (happens now and then :P ) i got the red temp light pop on, went off again as soon as i got moving or turned engine off.
Also noticed it 3 or 4 times now when on charity runs (only this year, was fine last year) that again in slow or staionary traffic the red warning lamp comes on.
So today i went out a rode slowly round town for 15 mins or so to try to make it happen, sure enough affter a while the red light came on, and cleared as soon as i crept the speed back up.
so tried again and got the red light on, this time i got off the bike and checked the fan.... No fan on !!!
now im 90% sure the fan should be on long before it gets hot enough for the warning light. so i must have a problem.

In my VERY limited electrical knowlage it would seem to me there would be a switch to turn the fan on once it gets to temp "A" and a 2nd or maybe the first is variable to set the light on when the temp hits "B"

so either the switch is faulty or the fan motor itself had died.
but how can i find out what one it is?

PS sadly i doubt i will get many replys as most ppl dont even know this board is running yet lol. DAMN YOU YUKU!!! :P
