FZS600 Fazer / Speedo sensor
« on: 12 June 2014, 07:40:36 pm »
Yet another one of these threads, it appears. I'm in need of a speedo sensor for a 99 Boxeye, and probably of some advice on fitting it. Not just the rotor in this case - the problem was caused by some numpty misrouting the cable after changing the brake pads, leaving the brake disc slicing into it. It's been working OK for a year or so since I put it back the right side of the caliper, but now seems to have given up the ghost. I'm a bit unenthusiastic on spending about 15% of the bike's value on a new one, but they do seem a bit rare second-hand. Anyone got any leads?

(Or advice on repairing a badly nicked cable, I guess...)

FZS600 Fazer / Dead electrics
« on: 20 April 2014, 08:38:28 pm »
(warning: contains gross stupidity)

OK, so in a fit of inattention while I was refitting the battery after taking it out for charging* I managed to briefly connect the battery terminals the wrong way round. Naturally, something went phut and now I have a dead, or at least dormant, bike (a 2000 boxeye 600, for reference). With the battery refitted the not-bloody-stupid way round, turning the ignition on has no effect at all - in fact, there is no circuit between the battery terminals with the ignition key inserted and turned to on. No dashboard lights or LCDs, no fuel pump tick, no nothing (which sort of follows logically from the above, I guess).

All fuses in the fuse box and the big 30A one tested and OK. Battery producing 13.4V

So, any suggestions as to which bits am I most likely to have fried, and how I should test them? Big relay under the left hand side cover next to what I think is the flasher relay? That black box under the toolkit that I've never actually identified? ECU? Something else? I didn't really notice where the phut came from but at a pinch I'd say to the right of the battery compartment somewhere.

* Needed charging because of a separate bit of stupidity, but not a relevant one as far as I can tell

Signed, A. Numpty

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - boxeye FZS 600 nose fairing
« on: 29 March 2013, 10:42:31 pm »
My T-reg boxeye 600 encountered a slightly unfortunate combination of raw incompetence and the left hander at the bottom of the mountain at Cadwell, so I've now got a rather tatty-looking glued together front fairing. It all hangs together and works and that, but it's never going to look good, so if anybody had one in good nick, I'd be quite interested in it. Bike is silver (a respray, was red when sold) but I'd probably be happy to do some spraying so any colour might do. A LH fairing infill could also come in handy, but (even) less urgently. I'm in Nottingham.
