Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Alternatives to the fzs1000?
« on: 24 May 2018, 07:23:53 pm »
Simple answer...not really. The thou does everything so well without truly excelling at any one thing. I have had over fifty bikes since 1979 so have sampled the virtues of just about everything. For the pound outlay they are hard to beat, sort out the suspension get it Ivanised and they are nigh on perfect. The only bike that could possibly coax me away from the Fazer Thou is the BMW S1000XR, the only stumbling point is the 10-12k required to permanently sit on one.

Thanks for that PieEater. The EXUP assembly was thoroughly checked and serviced by the local dealer not long ago and stainless bolts fitted so hoping that's ok. The bike only has 8k on it and doesn't get used in inclement weather. I will just get stuck in when the garage is habitable for a few hours :) [/size].

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exhaust removal advice
« on: 10 February 2018, 10:03:51 pm »
I want to remove the exhaust system on my 2005 Fazer 1000 so I can paint the collector area and give the front of the motor a good clean. Can anyone give me some advice on undertaking this job. I know I will have to remove the rad, Its just the removal of the exhaust I am not sure about, especially the EXUP and disconnecting it as I have never done this before. Any advice gratefully received...thanks David.

Have the carbon infills been sold, and if they haven't would they fit an 05 Fazer 1000. Thanks again David.

I have a Maxton RT10 on my Fazer and was absolutely astonished at the difference it made.

Due to an old injury coming back to haunt me it seems I am going to have to re think my favorite pastime (read obsession) and sell my beautiful Fazer 1000. Its a 2005 and in just this side of new condition. The tyres Conti Road Attacks are as new as are the chain and sprockets. Braided lines and Pipe Werx titanium can and link pipe which sound ace. The mileage is 7534k and it runs and sounds superb. The bike was Ivanised this summer by the man himself Mike so it was done properly and the EXUP valve serviced and is working perfect. The bike also has a Maxton RT10 which absolutely transformed the handling, this will come with the bike if full or near to asking price is met, otherwise the standard as new unit will go back on. If you need any information on the condition of the bike ask Mike he said it was the best he had seen. I am asking £3500 without shock and £3750 with. I know there are cheaper Fazers out there but this one is mint and very well sorted. The bike is located near Stockport I will put some better pics on when it stops raining...thanks David.

Same here matey...I put a Maxton RT10 on my Fazer and I was absolutely blown away by the difference. I am gonna get Richard at Maxton to sort out my forks over the winter, cant imagine what it will be like then. Tell you what though it really shows up the shortcomings of the OE item.

Same here, for years I thought it was a waste of money for me to buy a decent shock. I bought a Maxton RT10 shock for my Fazer and lordy, lordy I could not believe the difference and I still have got the forks to get done yet, I will again get Maxton to do the forks as I think their stuff is really good and works well, cant wait. Throw a few quid at the Fazer and being honest as an all round package its extremely hard to beat...I love em.

Yeah thanks Mike, a pleasure as always. Cant wait to get out and enjoy the fruits of your labour...when its finally all back together. You are like a machine Mike, starts working at 8:30am straight through till 5:30pm on 200 calories and a mug of lukewarm coffee...not even a biscuit. So thanks again...and thanks to all the chaps who came and entertained it was a good day all round. I am usually lurking round here so no doubt will be pecking your head next time I do summat daft. Keep it shiny side up Dave.

Had an unfortunate accident in the garage...due to an old injury my right leg decided it was a good time to let go. The bike went over and smashed into the side of the garage wall. The fairing has been marked and has a gauge in it, mirror is buggered, screen smashed, grab handle is totally goosed and the previously mint tank isn't as mint as it was. Can anyone recommend a really good motorbike painter who could do a top job on the fairing and tank. I live in the Northwest, Stockport area but don't mind travelling a bit if its worth it. Any help greatfully received. Now I am gonna go down the pub and drown my sorrows, thanks David.

General / Recording TV programs
« on: 30 January 2016, 09:19:30 pm »
This has been bugging me for ages. I would like to record the re-runs of Top of the Pops on BBC4. I was thinking of buying a DVD recorder and connecting the recorder to the sky box via a scart lead and trying it that way. I know I will probably have to be watching the program whilst I record it but that's ok. Are there any gurus out there who can maybe advise me if this is possible and if not is there anyway I can record and keep. If it is possible to record using a DVD recorder what make kind of recorder would be suitable...I have no idea. Thanks...any advice much appreciated.

I would buy a new one and then give it to Devilsyam to fix. As the song goes "Nice legs shame about the boat race" c/o The Monks 1979.

That's what I was thinking Fazerphil, I have just got a Maxton shock for it that has height adjustment, with shorter dog bones and the shock that should help quite a lot. Ground clearance is the main issue, as for short legs I am 5'9 on my right leg and 5'11 stood on the left  :eek

Thanks for that Mr Self Destruct. Maybe...a bit of everything may work, lower foot rests (I already have those) shorter dog bones, a shock that can be adjusted for height and making the seat about one inch taller. As said I absolutely love my Fazer but after about sixty smiles the rot sets in, which spoils the ride. But everything is fixable until the chap in the White coat tells you otherwise.

Yeah got some of those Nikodemon...they work great, its just the ground clearance issue that make them a bit of a problem. I am looking for another seat so I can have it modified to suit...hope its not stupid expensive though.
