I think I'll not dismiss one or the other without a test ride for sure and I have heard that the torque is lower down than the fazer which will help anyway, just thinking more of the future too really I guess..

Some great input though, thank you and you could be right on the money with what you've said - thanks :)

Afternoon all.
I sold my fazer last year (foxeye 600).

I'm in the process of changing jobs which means I'll no longer require a car, as I'll be allowed to use the van for private mileage.

So I'm looking at another bike, not set in concrete but possibly brand new.

What I'm trying to do is figure out which...

Obviously I'm going to test ride both, and have read mixed reviews on the 09 in particular.

I'm looking at the MT-07 and MT-09 of course.

Main reasons for the 09 over the 07 are the Free exhaust system with the 09 and the power ratings.

Obviously the fazer was up there with the power in the 90bhp ballpark... The MT-07 seems to be a power drop where the 09 is more powerful.

I'm not a heavy rider but do plan on keeping the bike long term, it'll be a hobby not a commuter, and will have a pillion on occasion.

Anyone got any input forms to assist my decision making?

To add, I'm only around 5'9" and 58-60kgs and so adjustable suspension of one may benefit me, but may be a waste of time and £2k on the price increase.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all
Just been looking for a set of crank cases just on the off chance.

Found some old stock ones for a 2000 model but mine is the 2003.

There seems to be variants with part number -00, -01, -02 all which are replaced with the -02 version.

The version I've seen is the earlier one.
I can clearly see that they're backward compatible but are there differences that will effect me having my 03 engine rebuilt onto some 99 model crank cases?

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks

No problem.
If I went the rebuild option was the 300 with parts?
And what sort of time scale would that work on?

I can do most of that and do have most of that kit

Done a few cam beltsee and had some heads off cars and definitely broken plenty.

My engine is perfectly up together bar this I'm tempted to pay deefer to rebuild it rather than to have the other engine.

A touch more and I'd still lose my engine  number I guess too but I'd have a justifiable reason for having  done it. I'd sooner an enine rebuild of a known engine by a reputable  person than what could be a totally random engine (if I were buying the bike) if that makes any sense.

That post makes good sense.

My worry is a small mistake can ruin it all.

I could in theory use the bike as is for the summer then rebuild over the winter which wouldn't be a bad shout.

Depends how in depth a job it is really I guess.

Massive is my guess. only ever really done work on 49cc mopeds back in the day so totally different game.

Doubtful that there'll be a whole idiots guide available either

That seems reasonable to be fair.
most I use is  sat nab and phone charger anyway

Assuming this engine is pretty up straight I won't need to do the cam chain or anything? Just swap my front sprockets over and get fitted?

If you manage to find the mileage that'd be great then we cN inbox re purchase.

I think it's the safe bet plus ill have a shed load of spares.

Is the engine complete?

That makes sense can't see theyre  a hard swap

Seems silly to do that when I could have a whole engine of spares too I guess.

Defo interested. Can you courier them or collection only?

If you can get all the info I need deefer id appreciate it.

Aren't the engines different in 2002-2003 models or is that rubbish?

Cheers

That's a lot of ifs but it's from deefer  so I'd imagine it's all straight.

I'll pm him tomorrow for details.
my engine is low mileage ish so such a shame

Still. Spare part city haha

It isn't wear definitely cracked from the impact mate.

This sounds interesting but if it'd near impossible or very expensive I've a leafy been offered an engine so need to weigh it up I guess.

My worry is if it's welded will the pump still be central and will it ever be oil tight again  I guess :/

Just don't wanna keep cooking oil and water pumps it'll get expensive though I don't use it heavily

What's the details? For a 2003? And cam chain all good etc as mines just been done?
It's an option tbf

Buying the cases isn't the problem

Fitting them is the problem unfortunately
I wouldn't be able to do the job myself
plus the cost and the work I've done to mine.
not sure I could warrant it anymore but the bikes worthless as it is.

I'm totally screwed

Could be an option.
was worried about a shim for the reason you mentioned
I have contacted an engineering company. Perhaps they'll come Up with something perhaps.

Chemical metal is never that good and could also end up in my sump

it may be a chemical metal job.Washers under the bolts don't work. I've tried
it hit the pump at around 1-2 o'clock and virtually smashed it.  As you can see it's knocked the pump straight a log at 180 degrees.

May have to look into something in there to hold the pump over. Some kind of shim or similar

The crack is causing the pump to move slightly at an angle
when I undo bolts and lever the pump back square it doesn't tap.

I'd imagine this is a lot of stress on the bearings on the oil pump and water pump.

Seems odd but it's true. After replacing a lot of parts.

The impeller isn't touching in either of my water pumps

This sounds perfect.
I'm worried that simply welding the cracking won't be enough as the hole has enlarged slightly so perhaps they can repair it.

I'll try and get some pics before calling them I think. May make things much easier.

Didn't get to calling them today.

Cheers
