Rough Engine
« on: 20 April 2014, 09:18:05 am »
Firstly Happy Easter to you all  :D

Went out for a spin yesterday happy and came home sad.  3k done on my Fazer since i passed my test (bike now totalling 21k) and it has developed this large rough spot below 3k rpm.

Setting off from standing or slow riding gives the bike this awful rough, almost grinding feel up to 3k rpm where it smooths out.  It seems to have appeared on various threads before.  This bike has a receipt from previous life for dealing with similar problem.

Spark plugs, leads etc i will check, might be within my capability to do some basic carb checks.  These seem to be common things to look at but i welcome other pointers.

Also, don't suppose anyone knows where in the Morecambe/Lancaster area this sort of thing can be looked at?  Bike garages somewhat sparse!!

Ropey running under 3k normally points at a carb balance, you'd be amazed at the difference after it's done.

I often get that grinding feel/sound and posted concern when I first got the bike and came on forum. With me it happens when the throttle is barely open and moving so slow, almost struggling to keep bike upright in traffic congestion.  I'll be in 2nd maybe flickin in and out of third, should still be in 1st for the speed but the ride is too jerky for comfort.   The grinding sound gets worse momentarily when I finally get chance to accelerate until engine reaches right speed for the gear.

Sound familiar?????

or is this gonna be another WD40 ;)

If it feels jerky between 2 and 3000rpm, then feels better above 3000rpm then that would tend to point to the carbs being out of sync.
