Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Question: clock lighting & rear brake.
« on: 17 August 2012, 05:26:51 pm »
Got to minor issues I am looking to sort -

1. The lighting in the clocks is dimmer than it has been on other FZS1000's I have owned, is there a know connector and/or wire/s in the front fairing loom that I need to clean and/or upgrade..?

2. The have always found the rear brake to be far too sharp for its own good, what have people done to dumb/reduce down the perf of said brake..? I'm thinking of lowering the pedal position and also getting the worst pads I can find..?

Something to be aware of, I bought one of the 'pattern" black ones from cactus composites and of the two lower halves one side was thicker than the other. I spent ages bending the connecting brackets into slight s-shapes to accombate the extra thickness. Had I know this before getting it sprayed I would have sent back the offending side.

And the bottom of the second one has been smashed, possible beyond repair.

If I never met you and walked up and straight up disrespected you, that would be uncalled for.
lots of piss takers on here ( no retards tho ).

Hi Stuler

Regarding the issues you had on here, unfortunately and contrary to what LT has said there are a few imbeciles and but conversely I have met a lot of regular and helpfup people on here. But regarding the website locations, just keep an eye on the URLs etc.

Anyway hope you sell the bike, I've seen one of those in the flesh, very nice looking bike sorta like a mini Vmax.

if its from the overflow pipe at the bottom of the bike and your tank was full at the time then your going to get some expansion of the fuel - hence a small amount on the ground under the bike from said o/f pipe.

How did you make the underside of the clocks water & weather proof..?

i think it's the top of the screen that makes the noise as i can get hold of it and the noise stops, so if i can stop that rattling that will do.
Yeahs its simple (I fixed this on my fazer ages ago)

Just pit a strip of double sided foam tape between the screen and the fairing,  on eacth side where the screen bolts to the fairing. Cut it to shape and stick it to the fairing first and leave the backing tape on the side facing the screen otherwise you`ll never get it off :-)

  • This sounds a bit weird to me. How do you know this effect is actually taking place?
  • As far as I know Fazers really do not have an issue with part worn pads.
  • I suspect that you simply havn't bled the brakes successfully and need to try again.
  • On some machines air bubbles get stuck in the banjo bolt next to the master cylinder.
Hi Phil
  • Popped the pads out the pistons were only moving in and out after 5-10sec of pumping the lever, not progressively further out as normal
  • I think you misunderstood me, I was saying the same thing as you - fazer done have issue with worn pads, I have even taken mine down to 1mm before changing on occasion
  • The brakes were successfully bleed and there was no air in the system.
  • That was the last thing I actually tried, before someone suggested the spring effect and bandits not liking pads that and even half worn.

2161
Thanks for all the suggestions/questions but I found out what was causing the excess lever movement, it was a combination of the 'spring effect' on the brake seals and half worn pads.
  • The spring effect as I understand is - a combination of the pads almost touching the discs and the piston seals grabbing/dragging on the sides of the pistons. This results is the pistons were not allowing me to fully compress/pressurise the system, hence the excess lever play -  or some thing like that.
  • The pads still had enough meat on them 3-4mm, but apparently bandits unlike Fazers can't deal with worm pads that are still within thier wear limit.

Got a question regarding my bandit 600 (commuter, the thou only comes out on nice days)  -

Recently serviced the front callipers, replaced all the seals and flush the system through with new fluid. The only remaining issue that I cant seem to resolve is the brake lever-to-handle bar distance, in that its coming back too far to the handle before the brakes are applied. But that said when the brake are applied they work well and as expected. Also I have braided hoses fitted.

I have done the cable tie-overnight trick now several times so if there was any air in the system its gotta be bleed out by now.. I even swapped the master cylinder over with a spare one off my fazer 1000 and the same thing is happening.

So does this mean the seals in bandit and Fazer MC's need changing..? as its the only thing left to change I can think of...

« on: 21 June 2012, 10:47:34 am »
Elo Stu

Of the top of my head I don't think it will fit and all the mounting points are different, or more crucially the sub-frame on the 2006 is totally different.

But one fairing that will fit is the front fairing of a fox-eye Fazer 600 -

Things that you can re-use from the Fazer 1000
  • Mirrors.
  • Headlight.
  • Rear inner fairing brackets.
Things you will need from the fazer 600

  • Subframe - looking at the parts link below, the sub frame looks the same as the one on the fazer 1000, so you could reuse that one.
  • Screen.
  • Front inner fairing bracket - see the part 18 on the link below.
  • Fairing inner panels - The panels are basically the same, but the ones on the 600 have protrusion (see part 11) on the following parts diagram.

Fazer is staying plus the fact my insure renew came thro £79 its a no brainer really and i do have another trip to spain in sept, if anythink ill ride with alot more caution as what ive seen will always stick with me.

I know what you mean about your Dad, mine has just had to go into hospital to get a stint put in a artery near his heart. But thankfully for him he very fit (even more than me) so the procedure is preventative rather than in response to something.

And regarding the fazer, good man.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and that you have to sell your pride and joy.

I would suspect they've already had an H&S assessment and the fact that the door opens outwards into a corridor has been noted but they've done nothing about it and don't want attention being drawn to it.
Thats my guess too.

2169
  • is the door had been hung so that it did not open up into a thoughfare but back towards the person opening the door this would not occur !?!
  • Have you requested permission to carry that equipment that is not work related into your work building? As you are aware that doors leading to this area open outward why were you carrying this item in the hand closest to the door opening where it could be damaged if the door was opened.
  • Is the area you were walking down confined enough to make you walk close enough to the wall/ door to be with in the opening radius of the door or could you have been walking further from the wall/ door to avoid a collision if the door was opened.

  • No it open outwards into people walking past, so the company should know better.
  • irrelevent, thats like telling people they cant bring in any personal items which would not stand up in court.
  • and this is a good point, the area is narrow enough that even if I have been all the way over to the left she would still have managed to clip the helmet.

Regarding the rest of the thread, there were a few good points mixed in amongst a lot of noise. And its all a non-issue now as the company are paying up, end off.

2170
Forget it, it's just one of them things.
I agree, but why should we be expected to constantly have to foot the bill. What if the helmet had been a right off or what if it had been my phone, the total cost of either would have been a few hundred pounds. Why should I/we have fall back on our house contents insurance in response to someone else's lack of due care and attention.

2171
Unless helmet has visible damage and you showed someone it before you left building
Yes, my line manager.

And regarding the door it was to my right, but she was looking straight through and opening it - the onus on due care and attention was her responsibility.

Anyone got any ideas on the 1st question?

2172
Walking through rear reception this morning and some stupid bint opens the door into my crash helmet, her excuse  "sorry, I didn't see you", I replied "what, through a transparent glass door?"

This is the 2nd time in 6 months and I'm not letting this one slide, where does the law stand on such matters? as I fully expect the company (like the last one) to deny any responsibility on the matter.

1. as it happened on company property are the company liable? if so what legal speak can I quote them to capitulate?
2. or will I have to take the woman to opened the door unto my crash helmet to small claims court..?
