02 sensor blank
« on: 19 July 2020, 05:26:38 pm »
I was just reading about doing away with the 02 sensor, the blurb says it makes for a smoother pick up etc,has anyone done this and if so is it worth doing?it's only a blanking plug and what looks like a electric connector.

I removed and blanked mine off during lockdown but to be honest it hadn't be functioning for years as I'd had it tuned out.
I wouldn't think its worth doing if you don't have a power commander?

If your curious then just buy a blanking bolt, disconnect the actual sensor from the pipe (which requires maximum effort... think rusty exhaust stud levels of swearing haha), tuck it up out the way and cable tie it secure (out of the wind) then take your bike for a spin.

If you decide you want ride then i believe the blanking module you need for the ecu end is about £30 on ebay, just unplug the sensor under the take and plug in the module. Stops you getting any error codes on the dash and also stops the ecu trying to alter the fueling

Thanks for that,I haven't got a power commander I suppose I was looking for a cheap fix for a snatchy throttle at low speed 1st gear corners/roundabouts etc I have to ride the clutch and be pretty careful because the power comes in fast if I'm not concentrating, it's made a bit worse because I changed the front sprocket for a smaller one.I suppose I should invest in a power commander but the bikes' ok pretty much everywhere else.

Put the standard sprocket back on and fit a Boosterplug or such like.   ;)

Did a bit of research on the Booster plug and after talking to the suppliers who it turns out are all bikers and very helpful I ordered one and it's just come so I'll let you know how it goes,it's a piece of piss to put on so that's a bonus, I'm always wary of going into wiring looms on modern bikes but this uses O.E.M. connecters there's no cutting or splicing. :thumbup

Finally got to try out the bike with the booster plug fitted and the difference is amazing,I was really sceptical about this and thought well even if it's a bit better it wasn't a waste of time but it really is brilliant, from an even tickover, which I've never had without hunting to a pick up at low revs that rivals anything i've rode on carbs it's just transformed the ride altogether! solely as an experiment I was going around a couple of islands slowly in 2nd and with the clutch fully home just driving out sweet as you like,I could never have done that before, but the main diff for me and the one thing that was spoiling the ride was that 1st gear low revs snatchy pickup which is now silky smooth.I can't recommend one of these enough,it's no wonder they give you a sticker of a bloke pissing on a power commander, they're right!!! :lol :thumbup :thumbup
