Fecking Guardia Civil
« on: 27 February 2015, 03:57:11 pm »
I am thinking of setting up a direct debit with Traffico out here in Spain. Got another speeding ticket through the post this morning. This one was from December, 107kph on the motorway going through a 100kph limit. No wonder Don Quixote and his mate Pancho Villa rode around on fecking Donkeys. I know, stick to the speed limit, but the way they set speed restrictions up out here is just all about making money. If they had road safety in mind you would not be allowed to park all the way upto a pedestrian crossing.
This is number 3 now 2 for speeding both motorway and one for supposing to cross a white line. I point blankly disputed that one with them so he said okay you failed to maintain 1.5 mtrs from the stationary traffic I was passing while filtering at lights.
Have they changed the law in the UK, if you use a sat nav out here and France you have to have the speed camera alert function disabled, €1200.00 fine if caught, think I will chance it.
So I have been fined a total €650.00 in the two years I have lived in Spain, while living and driving in the UK for the past 45 years I have been done twice 3 years ago on the bike £60.00 +3 points and once 30 odd years ago cannot remember what that cost.
Honestly I am not a speed freak but getting pissed off now. The spanish know they are chancing their arm as they give you 50% discount if you pay your fine within 3 weeks of receiving the ticket.
Can someone turn the heat up and turn the tap off in the UK and I will come home. :'(

Think it depends on the level of the offence, in Spain you start with 12 points and if you keep your nose clean you get more points. If you are not so good you work your way down to 0 and lose the licence. I will find out as I have only this month applied for a spanish licence.

Nope, they make lot's of bicycle rides :)

Just wondering where he lives in Spain, coast, mountains?? Toured the Pyrenees a handful of time now and never had a problem with police or speed cams etc. And a fine for 7k over the limit, that's a bit harsh innit?

So do I. :-) Been living here for 9 months now and only been riding alone. If by any chance you live nearby, we could meet for a coffee/tea and a ride through the mountains?

I'm located in Andalusia, in its mountainous green heart of the Sierra de Cádiz.

EDIT: A quick look at the profile revealed: about 500 miles away. That's not exactly "nearby" ;-)

Cheers,
Sascha

I live not far from Moraira North Costa Blanca. I have only been done once locally,
Fine one was just south of Zaragoza on the AP23 motorway110kph in an 80kph zone which lasted all of a couple of hundred metres.
Fine two, was in Altea not to far from me, failing to maintain 1.5 mtrs from traffic while fitering at traffic lights
Fine Three  was AP7 just after clearing Valencia 107kph in a 100 kph zone.
My wife got pulled today and was cautioned as they thought she went over a speed hump to fast, 30kph, I was in the car with her. I told her to just only speak spanish, amazing no ticket.
There was an article in the local paper a while back in the area we live they now have 5 helecopters.
