All the talk of the great roads of Wales on another thread has got me slightly jealous, so I thought I'd try to piece together a route up here to compete. Not entirely unsuccessfully I might say
The southern stretch of the A595 is certainly up there with the best, and coupled with one or two others, gave me a route of about 180 miles that was largely, shall we say, brisker than the mountain routes
Did do a brief detour to Wasdale again though, just for a break and the variation:
Sitting gazing at the view, the mountains seemed strangely unreal, almost like they had been printed on the background of the sky. But I just can't do it all justice with my dubious photography skills.
The route back home took me through Coniston, Ambleside and Keswick. Some proper tight little rollercoaster roads from Barrow to Coniston, but had one of those days where it was almost like being on rails - speeds on this bit probably rarely got over 50 or so, but even that low, these roads can catch you out. Not so today
Bright, warm sunshine all day, until I got home. Then it pissed down. Uncanny
