I reckon we need to set out at 4.00am to get to Sammy Miller's by 12.00pm.

140 miles at 1.2 bsh (breakfast stops per hour) should give us plenty of time.

As a little side show to the main ride I'm going to be running a little competition on Sunday, "what's making Harry's front brakes tap/knock"

First to diagnose gets a cuppa

He/she that fixes it gets a breakfast!  :)

Bring your tools lads/lasses.  :b

Sorry guys, I'm now a no.

Had a proper shit afternoon.

I went to ride home from work, bike was hard to push back from it's parking space.... puncture.

Didn't have a repair kit (didn't replace it after using it a couple of years ago).

Phoned up Faversham bike shop, they had one in stock and closed in 30 minutes but would wait for me.  Grabbed the works van and legged it half way home to pick up a kit and then drove back to canterbury.

removed big lump of metal from tyre and set about fixing it.  Hole was right on some of the metal radial in the tyre and I ended up shredding all three plugs trying to get them to work.

managed to get one sort of in but it wouldn't hold air.

ran out of the glue but thought I would give the remnants of one of the plugs one last go...... pushed hard, BIKE FELL OFF CENTRE STAND!  I could have cried.  35 degrees heat, hot, bothered pissed off and dropped bike.

Have left bike at work.  Have now signed up for basic RAC cover (yes yes yes, horse, stable, bolted)

Hopefully bike will be at work for two days then on Friday I'll phone the RAC to get it back to FAversham bike shop for a new tyre.

So, after a £25 repair kit, a £9 train ride home (and another back in when the bike is fixed) £49 for RAC and then a new rear tyre there are no pennies left for 2 tanks of petrol and 6 breakfasts on Sunday.

Sorry guys, totally gutted!  :-(

According to google maps about 45miles & 45mins by M25, but like you said what is the negative fudge factor for Red bikes and 600s at that.

Being on a Super Slippy Supersonic SILVER bike I'll be there before I leave so no problem. We'll just have to watch out for hedges and the like with your yellow hedge trimmer :rollin

10/10 for effort H........mines in bits this morning, riding home yesterday the chains making a hell of a racket.got an R6 shock to fit so thought I would do two in one and take the swing arm out and remove the chain, got one stiff link, cant believe just the one stiffy can make so much noise.so de-greased, soaked in WD and  good brushing with mrs reds toothbrush....its ok, shes gone to work  ;)......cleaned up well and have just about managed to work the link free...left it to soak in some engine oil while I try and remember what I did with the shock    :o

scorching hot here in south bucks after a stormy night...looks cooler tomorrow with a very small chance of a light shower late afternoon.........

Anyone up for a day out ?.....how about another attempt at visiting the sammy miller museum in the new forest ?.....meet at box hill stopping at loomies and onto sammy's place........or have you got a better idea ?

Drat, story of my life, have to be in Newmarket 8.30am that day!
Been to Cheddar Gorge recently, stopping at Loomies for breakfast, Sammy Millers is great, wish I was joining you, been there several times and never tire of it, especially when in good company!
Was at Thruxton yesterday on the flying Fazer 8, not a track day as such, as they don't do bike days there any more, but an IAM Ride Skills Day for £120, 6 x 20 min track sessions, with 6 x 20 min classroom sessions and 6 x 20 mins rest break plus an hour for lunch!
Fabulous long track, just over 3 miles and very technical, just loved it, non IAM members are welcome too! Covered 300 miles in all, 100 of them on track so an amazing day with endless tea, coffee and water plus lunch voucher thrown in. Bonus is you don't have to wear leathers, just normal protective gear, if anyone is interested will find out next date, they have also done Goodwood.
Just waiting for track photo's to be posted http://kellydowlingphotography.com/proofing/ (http://kellydowlingphotography.com/proofing/)
Enjoy a great day 8)

I'd be up for doing thruxton  since I have no leathers to do the track days :)

Sorry guys not going to make it,
Just got grabbed by my landlord he's been let down by a bloke and needs somebody to drive a tractor for him getting bails of hay moved.
Have to take work when I can get it,
plus seeing a grown farmer cry and beg, does pull on your heart strings a bit.
Hopefully be able to make the next ride out

Great day out, really good to meet you guys shame about the rain at the beginning but soon dryed out, Sammy millers was excellent. Will have to do it again sometime.

Yep great day. Great organisation Red. You deserve an award I think for getting the most foccers out on a ride ? Apart from rain at the beginning, perfect. Told when I got home that it carried on raining here until about 1pm, so we did right heading south west. Sammy's was great, brilliant collection, and glad I carried on to Milford for the sea view.
Got home 8.25 after a stop at Cobham services for liquid and a sausage roll ...... well I didn't have the quiche. M3 all the way to M25 was awful. So was most of the M25. Wishing I'd done the A272 back now.
Great to meet some new and old faces. Must fit in a few more before autumn.

Got home at 9.30pm after 14 hours and 372miles.

I had a really good time, thanks to all of you making me feel welcome, you never know, when your meeting a bunch of bikers for the first time, who your going to meet or what sort of ride your going to get. I didn't have to rag it to keep up (not all the time anyway), equally, glad it wasn't a slow trundle and good company to boot, I'll keep my eyes open for the next one.

Great day as normal Foccers, love that 272, always seems better on the way home. Less traffic and on it for longer I guess.
Loved Sammy Millers and good to get some sea air in view of the Isle of Wight.
Passing through Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst was good too, used to holiday there as a kid.
Got in about 21.15 and covered 338 miles, let do it again soon Foccers.

red98, stevie.g, punkstig: dunno what happened at the end there? We got to a roundabout where I had meant to turn right (for Burbage, carrying on on the 338). Paul, I'd lost sight of you and Adam and was following Stevie, who went left for Marlborough - thought he'd probably seen you two go that way further ahead, so followed him for a bit. Sorry Stevie, I think I was just tired; pulled in for fuel and a break, which is when I texted you to carry on Paul.

In my fatigued state, I didn't think that it didn't really matter which way you went - just that I had it in my head that my way would have brought you out to the A4 a bit nearer your destinations. I guess I should have really led from Salisbury, as I know those roads well. Sorry about that folks. But a good day anyway. I trust you got home ok Stevie - not seen you log on here yet?

Cracking day out yesterday despite the weather at times. I got home at 8pm... 235miles on that tank of fuel  and atotal of  285 miles done.
Wondered what happened to you nick... one minuet I could see you in my mirrors,  then I caught stiggy n red up in Malborough.
im hopeless with names, but great to meet all who came along,  much piss taking, mostly at pauls expense :lol

the museum was interesting. ? Enjoyed my icecream even if my flake did drop out :'(
couple of buttock clenching moments due to manhole covers and that railway bridge that chucked a canal bridge in the mix too.

now off outside to clean my bike. :rolleyes

Great day lofo's   :)....sammy millers was excellent, will be going there again, A272 was as good as I remember from last years failed attempt  :lol....shame about the short blast on the M3/M27, but on the bright side it get us to the museum in good time, the short diversion to milford on sea was well worth it, excellent view and ice cream  :)...anyone get a piccie for the picture challenge thread ?.....274 miles for me, started with a full tank, top up at loomies and light came on 3 miles from home

Nick, we followed the A338 all the way to malborough where the A338 meets the A4, thats where we were when I got your text, was going to suggest a tea stop in malborough, feeling tired myself, A4 was becoming a bit of a drag, should of stopped really.

best part of the day has to be the A272, spent all day Saturday sorting my tired chain and checking the the bike over, time well spent the mighty thou has never been as good  :lol

to top things off I even found a solution to the fragile 600 speedo drive  :lol....btm pic

great turn out lofo's....think we showed those scots how to do things and given the welsh foccers something to dream about  :pokefun

Where you turned left on the roundabout for Marlborough is the A346. 338 goes the other way and would have taken us to Hungerford on the A4. Doesn't matter though.

I agree the A272 was the best bit of the day, I'd forgotten how twisty that one is.

309 miles for me.

Sorry, only just got chance to check in.

An awesome day, about 13 1/2 hours out and about and 326.1 miles.

Thanks Red for organising the day, so glad we managed to prove that Sammy's Miller's actually exists, I never thought we would get there.

Like dazza I really enjoyed the ride home, I felt so much more confident around the corners on this ride  :)   I'll never be Dazza quick but I didn't panic in a single corner yesterday and that was a big step for me.

Paul was eyeing up riding this old'n but her husband was one step ahead of him...

Basically, this takes in what I consider to be the best part of the Charlbury TT, then down through the Cotswolds, across Salisbury Plain, and up the best part of the A338, which some of us might have done last Sunday, but missed. Starts at J&S near Eynsham on the A40, whose car park has a butty wagon, petrol station there too. Not a great route for café stops, but could probably improvise along the way (Maccy D's etc).

175 mile loop, so hopefully not too much for those coming in from around London?
