Title: Another HeadLight Post
Post by: nico on 16 June 2016, 05:12:49 pm
Hi All.

I have recently added an HID Xenon Kit to my main headlight. I intend to do the H4 full beam mod next.

However I have two issues:

1) Obviously now my full beam headlight has the normal standard headlight bulb and so is a different colour to my HID Xenon Light. I wanted to ask people if anyone had tried the Phillips diamond bulb (apparantly 5000K). I wanted to possibly buy this to save cost on having to buy another HID kit to match the colour of my main headlight.  NOTE: A very popular bulb that I was recommended Ospram Night breaker is still quite yellow so this will not match.

2) The parking light bulb (the one that stays on all the time when lights are on where the full beam light sits) is also a different colour to the HID Light so I wanted to know again is there a light bulb that matches the xenon or do you guys just take the bulb out and ditch it? As I'm doing the full beam mod next I won't really need that light anymore will I?

Cheers :)

You're not going to get a standard bulb matching an HID, otherwise we'd all be using them!
Be careful what you buy as some bulbs aren't plastic lens friendly so if you go too powerful you'll taint the headlight lens.

Mine? Yes, well it didn't fail with the nearside hid, the daylight running and 2 cree's. I'll find out if the H4 HID passess next year but I've no reason to think it won't as it's not pointing in the wrong direction as far as I can tell with my tests :)

Cool That's really good stuff... I've ordered my 2nd HID today which will replace my H4 side.

So regarding the side light do you guys just leave it then? Also I donno what its called but on the H1 Side I have this egg shell looking thing which is over the bulb. It looks a bit cracked so was wondering to replace it. What's the proper term for it? Should I have one on the H4 side??

or come to think about it should I just remove that egg shell thing?

Just replace the sidelight bulb with an LED replacement when it fails.

But I have my running light and cree lights wired into the sidelight harness and have removed the original sidelight bulb.

As far as the reflector in the nearside most people have taken it out, it's actually not good if you've got an hid in there anyway (in my opinion)
Removed by bending the tabs and pushing into the actual light area and then 'fishing' it out through the H4 side with something, don't be using anything harsh or you'll just scrape the rubbish reflectors and make them worse, I used a long tie-wrap with the grip end being used as a hook to get the thing out.

which of these would be the better headlight mod, there both HID projectors but with 1 kit you dont need to take the headlight apart to fit, anyone tried this method? and did it work well? all feed back much appreciated, sorry if i hi-jacked a post but I thought some might be screaming with yet another headlight post, thanks in advance

method 1

method 2

Can I ask a question that may sound dumb?
In the piccy's you're showing a HALO 'fog light projector' isn't a fog light designed throw a short spread beam as opposed a long beam like a spot or a headlight?
Just a thought..

Think it's halo as in Angel eyes with a projector lens in the middle, well that's what I thought when I looked at these.

to be honest i hadnt actually noticed the fog light part, i was utterlly intrigued that theres projector h4 bulbs out there, might be an easyer headlight upgrade was my thoughts, as Darrsi pointed out to me tho is that i would still need to make a 2nd h4 slot as currently only 1 headlight is h4

You'd only need to do that with the first option (I think) as these look like they use original H4 holes but the second option looks like you'd need to get rid of the reflectors (as the H4 bulbs are contained in the housing) and bore out a couple of holes in the black plastic on the headlight cover to get them to fit, watch out for the length of them as well as they could hit the lens.

Yes I've saw that many times and always thought it was too much, I'm happy with my HID's now :-) and easy enough to convert back to standard if needed or puting in a bulb if something goes wrong, can that be done once you put in projector lights????
