FZS600 Fazer / R1 Calipers
« on: 09 September 2013, 07:44:41 pm »
Replaced my front Blue Spots with a set of 2003 R1 Gold Spots yesterday. :)
First trip with them on today and strangely enough these give more feel than the Blue Spot did with the stainless brake lines. :eek
A direct replacement, only extra was 4 copper washers for the banjo bolts on the calipers. They even take the same brake pads. The longest part of the job was bleeding the brakes after fitting them.

My son arrived home this evening, complaining that his bike was jumping out of gear, clutch was slipping and making funny noises when pushing it into the garage.
We went out to have a look and I asked him to pull off the front sprocket cover.  :)
How can you check the jumping out of gear that way he asked. :rolleyes
Wait and see I said  :eek
No prizes for guessing which one was on the shaft  :lol
New chain and sprockets tomorrow, needless to say I wasn't to impressed

2. German Made Engine Bars new unused with all the fittings
3. Genuine Yamaha Double bubble Screen for 02 -03 Foxeye 600. £40 incl. postage. Had it on for 500 miles and just did not like it. Looks new as it is unmarked

My son need a top box for his Ffazer 400 for college and since there are no racks that I could find made specifically for the 400, I modified a part of the givi 340f mono arm kit to fit and made up a new bracket. I documented how I did it after a fellow from Greece asked about fitting a rack to the Fazer 400 and uploaded the file to: Downloads » Manuals » Fazer 400 » Fitting Givi rack to Fazer 400.pdf.
The only extras I added to assist the fitting was a used pair of rear indicators from the Fazer 600 as they are longer than the 400 ones helped when fitting the mono arms

FZS600 Fazer / Front sprocket issues again
« on: 09 September 2012, 07:16:50 pm »
I own a FZS600 which I bought new in 2003 and now has 72000miles on the clock. 3 weeks ago my 5th sprocket nut failed, this time taking all but 2 threads on the shaft with it and the last 2 nuts were the modified nut, even though Yamaha were supposed to have fixed it in 2005. Dubious of the ‘repair’ at the time I tapped the holes in the 2003 sprocket cover to take the plate and damper from the 1998/1999 sprocket cover to prevent the sprocket falling on to the shaft and leaving me stranded again
Seriously pissed off I contacted Yamaha and under no circumstances would they do anything about it, not even supply me with a new shaft, head and base gaskets free of charge, for me to to replace it myself. They even suggested I spot weld the nut on.
I spoke to my bike guru friend and he recommended I cut a slot in the shaft and put a circlip on it or drill and tap a hole at the end of the shaft and put a washer and bolt on it to prevent the nut falling off. I did both as a sort of belt and braces job.
I uploaded what I did with some pictures and since I did not know where to put it I put it under
Downloads » Manuals » FZS600 Fazer » How I fixed my Sprocket nut problem
Hope it helps
