I know you can password proctect documents/ spreadsheets etc but you cant password protect a folder. however if your setting up a separate user then they cant access your folders without sharing them. simplest is to password protect your own user account and set it to lock after a determined period of non use. yes pain in the backside if u pop to loo  kitchen etc but stops the little eyes seeing what you dont want them to see also if your account locked n your daughter wants to use computer they can switch user without losing any info you are working on!!

just to add my 2 pennies worth. . . .
I often have to go into military bases and get a temporary vehicle pass. When I leave pass office its about 30 yard ride to the police post where i have to show my ID card and then have to remove sunglasses/ helmet/ gloves etc to prove it is me that is riding the bike!!

but i like the post saying use the pay @pump I hadn't thought of that!!!

I suppose it depends on where you live?!
I live in Portsmouth & my land lady has an R1 & a Vauxhall VRX turbo so is very mechaniclly minded, she has found a good Garage that knows not to treat her like a dumb blonde!
however when I see my girl friend in Cornwall she found that main dealers treated her like she was stupid but again found a good garage that knew what she meant when she went in and said the car's making a noise like "cough, splutter, fart, bang!"

oh dear i'm not sure if I am a real man

  • knows how things work, (engines, lighting circuits, boilers)  - I know the principles if not the details!!
  • owns and knows how to use tools and fix stuff (even if he prefers to pay someone else to do it)  -I used to own the tools until I got divorced!  couldn't always fix stuff without 3 attempts then bodged it then had to pay someone to fix it
  • would protect/defend anyone if he felt they needed help - does going to Afghanistan count?
  • does NOT think that holding a door open/giving up a chair/offering to help undo a jar or change a wheel for a woman is sexist - still do this & stand when my lady leaves or returns to the table in a restaurant!
as for the getting in touch with my femenine side does enjoying cooking (or washing up when she cooks the meal) or always take flowers to my lady when i see her make me any less a man?

Robbie over 40 own hair but maybe bit more round than i was 10 years ago!

I NEVER USED TO USE THEM ooo sorry had ear plugs in !!!
I worked in engineering and had to wear ear defenders (and when married as wife snored soo loud!) but never bothered on my bike. now just back into biking and was wearing a ARAI Quantum E and didn't bother when i got my Fazer but just changeds to Shoie XspritII and landlady who has a R1 sugested a pair, i just use the cheap yellow disposable ones thay are good for using until they get to dirty!
I went on ride from Portsmouth to Falmouth to see a mate ggreat but when it came to return i'd lost them so had to suffer for 230 miles!! now i always check i have a spare pair in my pocket!
yes they do make everything sound different but once on a bike I found that it took the pain of wind noise away

General / Top Box rack
« on: 28 September 2011, 04:01:04 pm »
OK this probably the wrong section to post this but I'd like members advice,

I got back into biking after over 10 years out and have just bought a 02 Fazer 600
love it and went to cornwall and back at the weekend

when i bought the bike it has a GIVI rack and plate fitted , my question is....
are all givi plates the same and will any size topbox fit it?
whilst using a small rucsac to Cornwall was ok for a one off i'd like to have something I can pack and ride more comfortably

also whist I'm on I will be doing that run alot when the weather is good enough any advice on best luggage to get ie throwovers or is it worth investing in hard luggage?
