Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: oil filter?
« on: 12 February 2012, 05:59:17 pm »
Like you say, every one has a view on oil type/ brand/ colour/ grade etc, ad infinitum!
There`s a little tale I have told on a couple of forums in the past. I bought a Jaguar XJ 6 3.2 a couple of years ago (don`t reply on this as it`s irrevalent), but I did my usual oil filter change on a new vehicle and put correct grade of Castrol semi synth in.
Now the point, after just this oil change, I got 20 miles more from half a tank of fuel than before the change.
If nothing else, this shows you can`t say what the previous owner used in the vehicle, hence I always change the oil in anything I buy as a matter of course!

Just like the bathroom until a window is opened, if the air space in the instruments is sealed, the "window" will mist up.
If you can remove a light fitting to allow air to circulate, you may find the misting clears.
Whether you can introduce another air inlet and keep the lights, I don`t know. it`s not an area I`ve accessed on my`04.

PS, is water getting in from on top at all? that would help to cause misting.

When did this latest farce start? If it`s after July when my bike was insured by Bennets, sureley it doesn`t apply to my bike?
Heated grips, Viper can, hugger, wavy discs (3), tank pad, Givi rack and pannier frames, billet adjustable levers, tyre stripes, different tyres!!

For Sale & Wanted / Slightly damaged faring free.
« on: 30 October 2011, 05:08:30 pm »
I am (eventually!) replacing the fairing on my silver FZS 1000, 2004. The one on the bike at present has some small scratches/ scrapes on the sides, plus a crack about 3" long on right side from bottom up.
I believe these are relativeley easily repaired using one of the touch up kits you can buy, plus a little super glue.
When I get round to removing it, anyone wanting it, free, for collection, let me know and they can have it.
It would perhaps suit someone who has a smashed fairing, and can`t afford a new one?

Hi Mike, it was more a case of wanting to know about entry prices, to spectate, not race!
When we had our Guzzi over there we used to enjoy the roads over to Cartagena over the mountains, and the road from Mazarron to Aguilas. Unfortunatly we don`t have a bike over there now, but maybe we`ll take one over in a year or two.

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Spanish dwellers?
« on: 15 October 2011, 02:51:24 pm »
Don`t suppose anyone lives in Spain, especially the South East part, Murcia area?
Reason I ask is that we have a small holiday home near Mazarron, south of Cartagena, and last time we were over, we finally managed to find the circuit near there and how to get in!
I wondered if anyone has raced there, or spectates regularly?

Dont forget to put plenty of 'HIGH TEMP' anti seize paste/grease (not copper slip) on them or they will just seize up again!

Hi, I always thought Coppaslip WAS high temp grease. What is the difference, and what High temp paste do you use?

OK, thanks for that. On a similar note, re country of origin, mine does not have provision to turn off the lights, as I would expect for a USA model. Are UK models the same?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ivanised
« on: 08 October 2011, 12:14:14 pm »
Hi all, swapped my BMW 850R a while back for a 2004 FZS 1000. Just joined this group and After reading various postings on here and other Fazer sites, I wondered if there is any way I can tell, externally, if my bike has been "Ivanised?"
The reason I ask is, although it seems to perform very well, on startup I don`t need the choke with throttle shut. If I put the choke on I have to give it some throttle to start.
I am given to understand that as standard, these bikes are, if anything, a bit on the weak side when cold.
I don`t want to start stripping the carbs to see if it`s been "done", so I wondered if installers usually mark the carbs in some way to say if it`s been converted.
