FZS600 Rear Brake upgrade.
« on: 09 July 2021, 10:41:03 am »
Hi,

I’m looking for info on upgrading the rear brake for my ‘98 FZS600.

I’ve seen people on forums mention the fzs1000 rear brake but nobody fully answers:

Do I need the fzs1000 rear  reservoir  & what year one do I need?

Do I need a thicker disc or any supporting mods?

Anyone who can help is greatly appreciatedz.

Many thanks, Vince.

You need to cut out a bit of caliper hanger for it to physically fit - I used a Dremel style tool and just ground away, it's pretty easy, don't go in with a sledgehammer attitude...

I have a couple of thin spacers at the bolts to line up properly... this may or may not be 100% required.

Pads have to match the caliper.

Nothing else needs changed.

Think the year is early 2000's... the blue dot one, on a few different bikes as well if you don't fancy the "thou premium"

Hi & thanks for the input!

So, fzs1000 rear calliper ‘blue dot’ to match to match the front, fzs1000 disc & pads, make spacers & dremmel mount to make the calliper fit.

Will give this a bash & see what happens!

Anyone on here who has a good condition one laying around please feel free to message me with a price.

Many thanks again, Vince.

Yeah, blue dot to match the front ones.

You don’t need a new disc… that stays the same as you’re still using the 600 wheel….

Of course you can get a new one for the upgrade… but make sure it’s a 600 one, not a Thou.

Only the pads need changed to match the caliper.

Its an easy mod that works well but thou calipers are pricey. I use a Thunderace torque arm !
