FZS600 Fazer / So it's Chain and Sprocket Time
« on: 03 March 2014, 03:02:04 pm »
Hey everyone, so it's time for me to get a new chain an sprockets, old chains at the limit now for adjustment. I've done a little looking on eBay and was thinking this chain an sprocket set from Busters (http://bit.ly/1mQaqAh), any thoughts?

What else am I going to need? I know there's a lot of talk about the up rated sprocket nut, where's the best place to get one? Any tips or possible pitfalls you guys are aware of?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Dodgy Hot Grips or problem with charging system?
« on: 14 November 2013, 11:13:49 pm »
I'm not sure about the low voltage indicator, the
Control unit has a an on/off button on the left then + and - on the left. They're physical rubber buttons rather than the ones that are under the printed sticker if that makes sense. I'll give it a good charge this weekend and see what happens. I got a feeling it's gonna be the control unit, back out with the under gloves by the look of it.

FZS600 Fazer / Dodgy Hot Grips or problem with charging system?
« on: 14 November 2013, 12:52:52 am »
Hi, so I've got oxford hot grips, the ones that were on there originally were focced, I bought a control unit from ebay and all was working ok. Hot grips started playing up though resetting to the lowest blue led. Seemed as though this was when I'd hit a bump but not 100%.

Now I turn the power on for the grips I all I get is the 40% amber led blinking but so dim you can hardly see it. I'm thinking maybe there's not enough power when the engines running. I've noticed when I've got the brake on that the headlight will dim ever so slightly maybe there's too much load on the system? Any ideas how I can check this or any other ideas?

« on: 03 November 2013, 11:50:42 pm »
Sounds like the pick up. I think speedo shows a warning if it's anything with the sensor.

The little pickup is easy to replace prob 20-30 mins. Mine went the night before my mod 2 test. Had my mod 2 first thing in the morning so gave her a little test in the lane ;)  To make sure all was working, found that the speedo was dead! Had a look on here and found out it was probably the pick up. Remembered that when I bought the bike there was spare part in the tool holder. Had a look and it was the exact thing I needed to solve the problem! Landed on my feet there as my mod 2 without my speedo would've been interesting.

I'd say the brake light will pass MOT no problem, not sure about the indicator on its own though like darrsi said though I'd feel more comfortable having normal indicators aswell, people might not understand the indicator in a brake light thing there's a lot of idiots on the roads.  :D

Chain Wax it is then, may sound stupid but is that spray on or a tub of wax?

Yeah ACF50 that's the stuff couldn't remember what it was called. Think I'll give it a go, I'm not the best at cleaning my bike so I think it'll be worth having that extra bit of protection.

FZS600 Fazer / Lube me up
« on: 09 September 2013, 12:42:21 pm »
Ok, so chain lube. I've been using Wurth Dry chain lube but I'm almost out. With the weather getting wetter I'm wondering if there's some better alternative that'll deal with the wet weather.

Ideally would fit a Scott oiler but can't afford one at the moment.

I adjusted my chain yesterday, I can't believe the difference, there was about 60mm of slack, gear changes are so much smoother!

Also I've seen this anti corrosion stuff you spray on after washing the bike, is it any good? any recommendations?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Best replacement caliper.....
« on: 29 August 2013, 09:47:06 am »
Didn't even realise the rear caliper was dodgy. God knows when mine was last done. Gonna strip it when I do my front pads. What do u recommend? Strip, clean with brake cleaner, grease back of pads and pistons with copper grease, rebuild?

Fuzzy - How come you don't like them? Are they harder to pull the clutch in? I might be interested in buying them, where you from?

Looks like ultimate addons then. Seen some cheaper ones on ebay but I don't fancy watching my iPhone eat Tarmac.

I think I'm gonna look at replacing the chain ten. Garyb  did you do yours yourself? I'm pretty handy with stuff, just takes me a while but I'm sure it's bound to save me a fair chunk on labour if I do it. Any recommendations on cam chains and where to get them?

Kentish - yes I can hear it when I'm riding but obviously it's higher speed then.
I'll take a video at some post today and post a link later.

Well I'm still riding the fazer and the ticking is still there. I'm starting to question whether it is the cam chain or something else. It's there constantly, doesn't go away when pulling clutch in for instance. It's related to engine as it speeds up or down with revs. May take it to a garage for a little check up but funds are tight at the moment. Anyone recommend a reliable mechanics in the Caerphilly/Cardiff area?

FZS600 Fazer / Cam Chain Tensioner Reset/Replacement?
« on: 13 August 2013, 02:33:17 pm »
Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum had a look around a few times but just signed up for the first time.

I have FZS 600 '99, she's done about 32000 miles. I passed my big bike test about 2 weeks ago and loving the Fazer, just looking to look after her with some maintenance and hopefully she'll look after me.

My question is about the cam chain tensioner, from looking around I think I have a "sticky" tensioner as I'm getting a ticking noise from the engine. I'm thinking of taking a look at it this weekend but wondering how difficult is it to reset/replace the tensioner. I'm fairly competent when it comes to mechanics, no problem changing brake pads, adjusting chain, etc.

I have a Haynes manual which, I havn't checked yet for the tensioner but just hoping someone may have some little tips they want to pass on, I'd be more than grateful.

Cheers,

Tom  :D
