FZS600 Fazer / How lucky am I
« on: 27 February 2015, 09:06:56 am »
So I've found and bought another Fazer, bit concerned cuz it is a Q plate , paid £ 600 from my local dealer. He had only just got it in. It looked a bit sad but after a closer examination it actually looked in good condition , just needing a bit of TLC. The bad bits- wheels need painting as do the fork lowers, the tyres look a bit perished.
He dropped it off at my house last night with a wad of paperwork.
Now the good bits, be prepared for a shock
One owner from new
1st registered in QATAR in April 1999, I have the original bill of sale, imported by the owner 2007 when he had NEW UK speedo and headlight fitted, it has been serviced and MOT'd every year since import but has only done 750 miles during that time. It has only done 2850 miles from new , having spent most of its life in the warm rust free enviroment of QATAR and lived in a heated garage since being imported. It was Mot;'d 31-1-15 when the previous owner part exchaged it into a main dealer. If anyone could help me to determine its exact year of manufacture I will try to get an age related registration number, I'm guessing its got to be a 1998 or 99, thanks, Fraser

FZS600 Fazer / R6 Shock
« on: 11 March 2014, 05:34:27 pm »
I fitted a 2010 R6 shock a few weeks ago and it seems a lot better, but, I don't seem to be able to adjust the rebound enough, I have carefully counted the clicks from all the way out to all the way in and even with it one click out it still does not seem to be controlling the rebound as I expected. I am used to a shock that you can "over" adjust ie, the seat rises too slowly , any comments please, Fraser

FZS600 Fazer / Dyno'd today
« on: 26 February 2014, 05:17:02 pm »
Took the old girl for a bit of diagnostics today, has been suffering a with a slight flatspot/reluctance since fitting K&N air filer and noisy can. Matey on dyno confirmed that it is a bit rich on mid range, time to drop the needles a notch , that should sort it .        87 bhp , not bad for a 16 year old  33k Fazor

General / Oberon footpegs
« on: 30 December 2013, 05:45:22 pm »
If you change your bike and want to keep your Oberon pegs, ring them direct 02392 481188 and they will sell you the bike specific part to reuse your pegs on new bike, costs about £ 15, not listed on their site and a lot cheaper than buying complete kit.

FZS600 Fazer / Am I bonkers
« on: 11 November 2013, 05:31:41 pm »
My bike came fitted with some very poorly designed stainless downpipes, 4 into 1, huge bore sizes throughout, no balace pipes anywhere, the bike had a bad flatspot between 5-7.5 k rpm, I reduced the pipe size after the collector to approx standard and this helped a lot, the flatspot is now between 5750 rpm  and 7250 rpm , I've tried different needle positions and the carbs are spotless. Now for the bonkers bit !! I'm seriously considering reducing the downpipes sizes by squashing/crushing them down to approx the same cross sectional area as a standard pipe. I guess the crushed area will be about 7 inches from the head.
Any comments or advice would be great,

FZS600 Fazer / Trapped air
« on: 06 September 2013, 05:01:25 pm »
Just finished repainting my fork legs ( black ) and renewed the fork oil ( 15w ) and fork seals, all went together no problem and rides great, but a question for the more experienced FZS' ers. After close examination when all stripped bare on the bench, it appeared to me that there will always be some trapped air immediately under the fork seals, and the only time they will get " wet " is by the fork oil slashing up on a bouncy road or when they actually start leaking. Have I missed someing obvious ??

FZS600 Fazer / Oil filter removal
« on: 19 June 2013, 06:05:32 pm »
Seems pretty obvious really ! I recently got a 98 FZS600, ordered my service kit, got bike on stand in garage, so far so good, its got after market stainless down pipes, not enough room to get filter out !! do I really have to remove downpipes to get filter out ?  I hope not cuz the manifold studs are rustier than a rusty thing , any advice would be very welcome, thanks, Fraser

Introduction / Hello from Chichester
« on: 18 June 2013, 06:19:29 pm »
Hi, picked up an elderly FZS600 and its hilarious, dives into corners with ease, brakes are great, super comfy. I don't know how I've overlooked a Fazor for so long. I had a Ducati S2800 Monster which was too shiney and valuable to use every day in all weather so I "downgraded" !!!!!!   best thing I've ever done, the Fazor beats the Duc at everything LOL, I've lowered it with links and dropped the forks through about the same amount, still handles great, chicken strips gone, I have had a lot of bikes but the Fazor is the most fun I've ever had on two wheels !
