FZS 1000 cutting out issues
« on: 26 December 2015, 10:08:09 pm »
Hi,

Was riding around London, stopped the bike, went to restart it but nothing....all the lights were on, killswitch was off. Trouble is it wouldnt even turn over. In a moment of annoyance I pushed the side stand up hard and that seems to do the trick, I have a feeling its almost certainly the sidestand switch as it cut out when riding. I checked the fuses and all are fine, how do you check the switch, clean etc.

Mant thanks

slappy

Clean the switch in situ first, just use loads of wd40 or similiar and then check if it is moving in and out freely and not sticking, they do collect a lot of crud.

To test the sidestand switch you will need to take off the left hand side panel and look for a dark blue plug. Disconnect the plug and test for continuity between the pins with the side stand down. Try it when it's up also. I can't recall off hand which gives continuity, but as long as one gives continuity and the other doesn't then it's working
If it's broken, it's not fixed.
