FZ6 / Fazer / Belly Pans & Double bubble screens
« on: 17 August 2016, 05:17:32 pm »
Hi,

So I've just swapped from a FZS600 to the FZ6 s2 and wanted to get a belly pan.

I'm contemplating getting a plain one and getting it sprayed to match the bike (Cobalt blue) but wondered if people had recommendations for the best one

I'm also thinking of getting a double bubble type screen (had one on my old Fazer) and wondered if people had any particular recommendations for that as well

Cheers :)

Ah, then you're the man I should speak to Big Mac :)

Well, I test rode it yesterday and I'll be honest... I like it!! It's different but not worse at all. I'm hesitant to say better, but based on the ride it's as good as my fzs.

I see the point about the seat getting warm from the exhaust, but I'm going to take that as a bonus when I'm riding in October ;)

Generally the bike felt smooth, easy acceleration, nice sound, handled well... Definitely need a new screen though. First investments will be a double bubble and a fender extender.

Assuming I get enough for my fzs I'm going to go for it. Will be sad to see her go, but glad I'll be staying in the Foccer family

Hey, sorry for not coming back, been away with work.

Nothing major wrong with FZS, just a bit tatty and has had to have a lot done recently. In someways I guess I should have swapped before, but financially it wasn't an option. Now a little bit of money has come my way and I want a newer bike that hopefully won't keep needing work.

Also, to be honest, I want a newer bike. The FZ6 is the 09 s2 which as I understand, is a little bit better than the original fz6's

I have taken on board what people have said though and am going to test ride it to see what I think. If I'm honest though, I really want to like it. It looks nice, I love the riding style of the Fazer and would like to stay as a Foccer  ;)

Will see what I think though and make a decision after.

Cheers for all the advice/input though, it's been helpful

Hey all, thanks for the comments. Interesting read, definitely going to think about it.

I was aiming for something newer as my 00' fzs has become a bit of a money pit and I'm hoping to avoid that. Also with rumours of older bikes being charged in London soon, I was taking into account that as well.

Regarding the brakes, the bike I'm looking at has blue spots on the front so does that mean they were fitted afterwards? ** Actually, as it's a 58 plate, does this mean it's the S2? Trying to get clarification on this from the dealer now.

In terms of a step down, is it something drastic? I guess I'll find out on the test ride, I'm just curious as to how much difference it would be.

Anyway, thanks for the comments, might not be what i'd been hoping to hear as I, so far, really like the bike, but it's good to know. I'll definitely give it a proper test ride!

Cheers :)

So I'm looking at a 58 fz6. It looks in decent nick, only a few scrapes on the fairing. Has done 25000, is there anything to look out for specifically, anything that's likely to need doing shortly on terms of expensive maintenance etc?

Any advice would be great :)

Cheers

Hi,

Out of interest, how technical is the work involved? I'm a mechanical noob so while I'm contemplating this, I'm not sure I'd be able to do it myself.

Cheers

I now have a lovely (and working!) blue spot on the rear!!  :D :D

It is nice to finally have a working back brake again - thanks to everyone on here for the advice :)

Hi all, sorry for not replying, works been crazy.

So, an update... got the new master cylinder fitted, also a new bleed nipple replaced as that has been leaking..  bit of a pain but finally sorted, right?... no!😞

So the nipple is still leaking and the pedal feels like it has a lot of movement. If the new nipple is leaking does this mean it needs a new calliper?

If so, one seen people recommend the fzs1000 calliper but they seem to be pretty rare. A new fzs600 calliper seems to be£300😞 but right now I'm tempted just to buy one and hopefully finally get this sorted. Any advice is as always gratefully received

Yeah, I was thinking about that - any ideas how long they usually last in terms of mileage? My bike has done close to 60,000 so was looking at one that had done 27,000. i figure it should  have a bit of life left in it.

Hi,

So I've been advised I need a new Rear Master Cylinder but I am really struggling to find any online.

There just seem to be rebuild kits which the garage advised wouldn't be a good idea.

Does anyone know where I can get one? I have found this here - https://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/product/yamaha/4BP2583V0100/rear%20master%20cylinder%20assy.?uid=0

Seems a bit steep at £125, but then I don't know how much one would usually cost

Cheers

Hey,

so I just had the downpipes replaced on mine (based in London so can't help with garage) and went with the motad ones. They are a bit expensive but there is a thread on here somewhere discussing why they're the best... and that's why I went with them. The bike sounds amazing in comparison to the old slightly rusted blowing pipes so from that perspective they've been worth it

PlusGas can be found on amazon. I got it, used it and saved money on labour. The garage said the bolts came out pretty easy so I guess it did it's job. It's not going to hurt, that's for sure.

Can't help on the garage sadly

Cheers Darrsi, yeah, It's good to be certain I do need to change it, rather than be gambling I guess.

Oh well, it will just have to be a quiet month without too many beers :-)

Cheers for the help by the way peeps. I'm just somewhat fed up of things breaking/costing money at the moment.
Stupidly dropped and cracked my helmet yesterday so now I need a new one of those, new downpipes before May and now this is playing up... beginning to consider whether a new bike is feasible... or I use the train  :'(

Clutch is fine. Choke is playing up & the free play feels different (I have adjusted but still doesn't feel quite right). I wondered if it might be related to the throttle cable?

There has been a bit of a delay, but it seems OK recently. Unless I'm just getting used to it? The free play of the throttle has felt a bit different too since I had some work done (took apart to tighten the cam chain but it didn't need it).

FZS600 Fazer / Choke not fully responsive
« on: 15 March 2016, 05:23:28 pm »
Hi, Me again,

This months concern (after figuring out the running issue was down to spark plug caps and rain water) is that the choke is being a little unresponsive.

It does work, however when I shut it off it has a couple of second pause before the revs drop. This used to be instant and the time between the turning off of the choke and the engine revs dropping is getting longer.

I guess my question is basically "is this a big issue?" and if so "how do I fix it?" was planning to lube the choke cable tonight and see if that helps, but figure I should ask.

Cheers and if you find this particular question uninteresting, don't worry, I'll probably have more concerns soon  ;)

*seriously though, thanks to everyone who helps when I post, it's massively appreciated

Wow!! That's some price difference are Yamaha's made out of gold??

Cheers for the link :)

20
Cheers Darrsi, will check them out if it continues to happen. I'm hoping it may have been caused by the engine cover flap thing being in the wrong position. Will have a proper look at the weekend though

21
Cheers again Frosties, really helpful. So wd40 in the caps seems to have worked as she's running much smoother this morning. I'm assuming replacement caps are the solution? Or, if I clean any crap from around the plugs I'd that likely to make the seal more water tight?

22
I've not tried riding it since as I've had to go out but will try it first thing tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed.

Where would I find the coil packs

23
I did Frosties. I've just put some wd40 inside the caps, forgive my stupidity but what would raising the tank do?

24
Yeah, having googled it there seem to be numerous potential causes. I'm going to speak to the guy who checked my cam chain add he was the one who pointed out the fuel pump issue. Other than that I'll be taking it to a garage again on Friday I guess :'(

25
Sorry. Couple of other things,

My fuel pump had previously had an issue due to poor connection left over from when the data tool was taken out.
