Title: Silent front sprocket?
Post by: Decoke Dave on 07 January 2023, 06:47:19 pm
I know it won’t need it with 12500 miles on my Gen 1 thou, but would I notice any improvement in smoothness, gear changes etc, by fitting one of these so called silent front sprockets. Don’t mind the work of fitting it, and they are relatively cheap, no issues at all with how the bike runs etc. I’m sure there will be a good bit of experience of these being fitted on the forum. Thanks.

Ive had them on my FZ6, it is a little less noisy, Id say around 10 -20% initially, but it does increase again as the rubber picks up the shape of the chain links over time. Id fit one very time though

The standard Gen 1 front sprocket is damped, and very pricey too. A good alternative would be from Ognibene, and half the price.

If you want to spend a few extra quid, they're ok, however I had one on my FZ6, but the rubber wore down over time.

When I replaced it with a stock version, there wasn't a noticeable change in the noise.

How many chains run on that sprocket for it to wear down?

Only one. I replaced the set after about 12k miles.
