FZS600 Fazer / Over fueling "pop pop pop"
« on: 07 January 2018, 05:03:49 pm »
Hi All,

After a group ride this afternoon, guys behind me all said the fazer is overfueling. Said they could smell it strongly and of course bike is really poppy on deceleration. K and N filter, Micron full system. (See pic) Recent carb balance.

Not sure if a previous owner has been fannying about with the mixture or wether just dirty carb issuses. Bike was sat for a couple of years until I bought it last year. Plan to remove the carbs, strip and clean in the next few weeks anyway. I did wonder if it was just symptomatic of the full micron system on there?

Any musings would be appreciated!

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / 99 fzs600 lumpy idle, lumpy low speed
« on: 28 August 2017, 02:12:50 pm »

Hello!

After some help please?! :) I've done lots of searching and taken on board lots of the suggestions in other threads...now time to start a new one!

I'm a new rider so bear in mind that some of the issues may be rider related :)
Struggling with low speed riding/manoeuvring. Scenario: Small tight roundabout, going all the way round/3rd exit. assume if pulled away from standing in 1st. If I drive it slowly as it's a tight R/A I'm finding it hard to keep it smooth. Almost to the point that I start to kangaroo. Now I get that I can slip the clutch and raise the revs, or drag the back brake....but...very hard to indicate off whilst holding in the clutch and on a wet RA I don't really want to drag the rear brake. It's not a problem I had on the xj600 Divi I learned on, maybe its because the fazer has twice the HP and inline 4?

I'm also having problems at idle (which Is why I'm assuming the two are related) The bike idles just above 1k but not at all smoothly. It's running very lumpy and the needle is fluttering to the time of the sound of the engine. (if that makes sense).

I have:
Changed Oil/filter
Cleaned and checked plug gaps
Balanced the carbs
Cleaned and oiled the K & N air filter.
Checked all breather hoses are clear and not kinked.
Bike has Micron Fast flow Can and performance filter as above.

Bike was sat for a year before I took possession of it. I have also tried the fuel additive as mentioned by lots of people on here with the same issue to clean the jets. Also find that I have a few little backfires whist decelerating. Nothing big and loud just little pops and grunts. :)

Any help of suggestions are much appreciated :)

General / Coolant leak from bottom of carbs. FZS600 fixed.
« on: 31 July 2017, 07:34:32 pm »
Thought I had a coolant leak the other day. But wasn't sure. Came home from work and decided to balance the carbs...warming the bike up a bit I realised there was lots ans lots of liquid on the floor.... switched off... had a sniff.. (was worried it was fuel) Coolant pi$$ing out of a a narrow bore hose at the base of one of the carbs. Whipped it off, cut it back and cable tied it...job done. Carried on with the carb sync, and whist blipping the throttle noticed more liquid!! This time from the other end of the hose!!! Could get my hand in so aborted!

Looks like I need a new set of hoses. The bike was sat for a year before I took it, reckon the little hoses have stretched a bit with the heat and just breaking down. They feel really floppy :D

Will book it in, hopefully not to pricey...think the carbs may have to come off to gain access thoigh!! Might as well get them to balance the carbs while the tank is off eh?!
Grrrrrrr

General / First ride on my Fazer since passing my test!
« on: 28 July 2017, 10:15:02 am »
Took the Fazer to the MOT centre this morning!

Passed my MOD 2 on Monday, been tinkering with the Fazer for a couple of months but couldn't ride it. (Not worth the risk with no insurance tax or MOT) I've been learning on the schools old naked xjs600 diversion. Bit lower and generally much more agricultural. That was the only bike id ever ridden until this morning!! Strangest thing was the clocks staying still when the bars move! Felt so odd compared to the diversion! Much more planted feel though and sounds amazing! First time ever riding in the raid though...that made things a bit tentative on the roundabouts!! Phew!!

Send some good vibes for the MOT pass!
Here she is before I left her!

Fazer in my garage and needs a little love. Service, carb tune and MOT and good to go. Hopefully it will fly through the MOT!

I can't wait to get my mod2 ticket and put some miles on the Fazer!!
