Its been on my list for a while. Had a look on the site and couldnt see any dates for 2012 , presuming it will be late Aug as last years.
If so its too early for me but I'm sure a visit there would be memorable  :eek

I was fitting ivans full monty jet kit which requires the inlet rubbers be reshaped by removing material so didnt want to use the cracked ones.

The benefits with the kit fitted is a much more linear power delivery, engine feels a lot smoother and just takes off form anywhere in rev range , 6th gear overtakes from 3k had me smiling no hesitations just instant grunt.

it took me about 3 months to find a complete set, there was a pair of them for sale from a gloucester bike breakers but as there are 2 different types,ie left and right i did not go for them

Thanks for that I got them, they are now ported and on my bike.  :)
The ad was a bit confusing so I gave them a call to confirm what they were.

If its just the start of cracking you have plenty of time, the set I took off had been progessively getting worse for 3-4years , have a good dig through the breakers shops on ebay, it can pay off, I paid £24 .

« on: 20 February 2012, 04:41:56 pm »
I managed to get the std forks through 33.5mm , 35mm might be possible with the wiring under the bars moved but as I couldnt get to the 40mm to equal R6/R1 ride height without different bars or adding spacers left them at 33.5.

It feels like a different smaller bike , the handling has become almost intuitive. Absolutely no stability issues, its gone from a lazy handling bike into something thats agile and really pleasing to ride. The cold temps also confirmed its a lot more drafty with the lowered stance.

The forks do seem to improve with more weight on them I,m probably 70kg on the bike and I know although I am a lot happier now I,ll be moaning again once the novelty of the handling has gone .

Right now not sure which way to proceed whether R6 or R1 , already have yokes and spacer for R1 and hopefully  have some cheap legs lined up .If I can force myself to take the dremel to my Fazer yoke it will be under £150.  Looking at the buy it now prices for Fazer bottom yokes I,ll be dremelling.

There is a transformation just by dropping the forks as far as you can and thats free . The old 10mm maxim is nonsense in my opion and while not everyone will like the different characteristics you can always pull the yokes back up again which you cant do
with R1 option  if you dont like it,  The R6 change has the advantage  of just changing the legs .

Anyway without money spent the fazer forks will always be the same so I,ll be taking one of the cheap options.

Taking advantage of the weather here just had a couple of rides with a full monty and one of Lukes R6 shocks but same old front end as yet.

Ivanised. It is like having a different motor ,the holes I could sit and bimble along in are gone, almost feels like the crank had been lightened, it just wants to rev and now  flies through the mid range or what used to be the mid range . I havent ridden the bike for months but remember it as a motor with defined rev ranges . Now its very linear and quick to 10k in 6th, the old top end rush doesnt seem as strong now the dips have dissapeared.
I think that thought only occurred at the top end of 5th & 6th in which case its pish as I didnt notice the first four gears fly through.
I'm well chuffed and might even get a dyno run to see if its better than the R1 I had, 134 as std and 138 with jetting and RS3 can.

Handling wise, Lukes R6 shock mod is plush and makes the front feel even worse :\ maybe I should learn this wheelie thing , I lifted my forks another 10mm to 20mm and had a nice easy handling bike .  So still 20mm to play with to get to R1 forks ride height which I hope will, with the extra weight over the front, improve the fork action.

I doubt I will ever achieve the ride quality I want from the std forks but will confidently predict an increase in fuel consumption as a result of fitting the Ivans kit :rollin

I had another short ride today trying to concentrate on the suspension and whilst the forks and handling are way better, the R6 shock is really good and makes the fork damping seem even worse. I reckon my arse only felt about 5% of what my hands did.

If the R6 forks can provide the same improvement in ride quality and control as the rear then its a no brainer easy to do job.

If our weather holds tomorrow will try 30mm and take a screwdriver .

Thanks for the heads up .

I was considering a change to R1 forks and trying to be patient on ebay, missed all the xmas bargains due to loss of broadband .

The R6 option would save hacking or buying bottom yoke but are you basing the results on your lucky suspension shop revalved one's,which might have cost as much as the eye watering £500 K tech option.

I owned a 99 R1 that was raced for 3years, the first season on standard suspension which was really not very good , a change to WP  gained us 1.5 sec a lap around Knockhill  for around £700, so I wasnt expecting miracles fitting a set to the fazer but at least they would look better.

I cant remember in all the threads I've read about the R1 fork change anyone commenting on the suspension quality rather than the diff in handling  due to the shorter forks and thats achievable by pulling the old fazer forks through the yokes.

I just had a quick run on mine with the forks through 20mm, plus one of Luke's R6 shocks and it felt really good. The forks seemed to work a lot better with more weight on them, not so much banging off ridges and potholes .  The handling is really neutral and effortless through chicanes , I need to do a decent ride to seperate all the changes as it was first ride for months and with motor now Ivanised I was concentrating more on performance changes and not noticing the suspension which considering the speed and road condition is a really good thing.

Can I pull the forks through another 20mm to run same ride height as with R6 and R1 forks without clearance issues due to diff fork travel ?,
I;ll find out as I want to try but would be nice to know beforehand if the mudguard is going to contact something . Just want to replicate  what the stance would be fitted with the R6 or R1 forks .

Look forward to your finding regards significant improvement  which it no doubt will be as they are revalved, but then that is only relevant to other revalved forks and not  the standard R6 one's. :\

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Air Filters and carb boots
« on: 23 January 2012, 02:39:42 pm »
Looking for a filter to install with Ivans Kit and saw Hiflo filters on ebay for approx £20, K&N and Piper £36 and BMC around £40.

Is this Hiflo a High Flow filter or direct replacement for standard ?

I could not find any info on filter regards spec but one link suggested that HiFlo also make K&N filters or it was the other way round.

I,m presuming its a paper version of K&N and not washable ,anyone ?????????

Also having watched my carb rubbers deteriorate the past 3 years just checked depth of one of the cracks @ 3.67mm which was a bit scary, still a couple of mm left but not worth the effort of porting .

Just trying to say that the crazing/cracking of boots is not something to get paranoid about but dont ignore it for too long.

Mez 4 were shite but predictable shite, to compare it with the Roadtec is like comparing a TT100 with a Sportsmart.

Ive run a couple of sets of roadtecs and found them to be comfy nuetral handling never think about them tyres.
The rear does not square off ,both lasted approx 4.5k to canvas .There are no wear bars in centre of tyre and Ive been caught out twice.  No issues with grip wet or dry or white lines .
As the 6 has been replaced with the 8 they should be in the bargain buy cheap  category now.

I have similar feelings toward Michelin as the Ghostrider has to Mez , formed because I remember the Mich Hi Sides on my Nordwest and early R1, which were scary because of their unpredictability.

I tried Pilot Powers, cheap deal, on my St4s and they were a big disappointment. Really nice fast handling and grip the first 1k then the whitelineing starts as the rear squares off and  my front wore at uneven rates which was a first for me, not the usual scalloping but right side of tyre through wear bars with a couple of mil still on left. Rear was toast by 2k .
I replaced them with a set of Diablo Stadas, Pirelli equivalent of the Roadtec 6 , and although they did nothing wrong they just didnt offer the comfort or feel/feedback of the roadtec and the front would howl on the brakes, think the rear lasted 3.5k which was also a disapointment.

I'm sure the latest generation of tyres offer incredible grip and mileage but I'm a Lidl shopper.

Currently running Pirelli Angels on the Fazer and liking them .

Introduction / Nice Forum.
« on: 09 December 2011, 01:53:03 pm »
Just found the forum while searching for suspension alternatives for gen 1 1000. Live in North Fife, the bike has 26k and on 2cnd rear shock . Nice to find not only the answers but most of  the required hardware available here also. I had been considering buying an alternative shock and also wondering if the R1 front end would fit.   All questions answered, thanks.

Ive had the bike 10years and was thinking of a Street Triple which ticked all my boxes apart from protection ,anyway the extra needed to buy one will cover giving the fazer a hopefully more dynamic feel and an Ivans Kit to perk it up a little. :)
