Is it not possible to buy a length of SAMCO (silicone) Hose of the correct diameter, then cut 4 correct length pieces to fit?
Might be cheaper that way than a dedicated "kit" for the Fazer? Something like below...

Would it be better to tidy up your bike and sell it, then put the funds towards a more potent sports bike that's going to offer greater performance/returns on the track?

Even before you start, the Fazer engine is restricted (factory stock), taken from their mildly tuned Thundercat (which is still no R1 or R6).

There's plenty of "bike projects" on FleaBay. ;)

EDIT: Should you pursue the track route with your Fazer, I'd be interested to learn what performance tweaks you employ, however I still imagine you'll be left feeling frustrated, being outpaced by most true Sports bikes.  :o

« on: 29 March 2018, 01:12:04 pm »
The greatest inequality is not between genders, but between classes. But you can't complain about that AND live in a capitalist country. It's like complaining about the heat in Africa.

In THIS country (UK) I think the biggest issue (threat) are the "ethnic minorities".
They are coming here planting their seed, pushing their (third world) religions, then screaming racist when one of us "white" people criticise.

We have someone who just recently joined our team at work - he disappears off to the "prayer room" several times during the working day (about 20 minutes each time) - I didn't even know we had a payer room!! He never stated this was part of his daily ritual, when he came for the interview, plus from our perspective its another excuse for him to do nothing and slope out of the office.

They will happily isolate their daughters for getting into a relationship with someone outside of their "religion", for disrespecting their family (honour), yet the Males in these families will happily go around (in the UK) grooming "white girls"... then get a slap on the hand by the law, as this country is so PC and afraid to appear racist (back where we started).

It's a plague that will only get worse - yet lets all bury our heads and pretend its not happening (from the man on the street, establishments, to the law).
They are here to "enrich" society??? They refuse to contribute or interact with society, building up "communities" in towns and cities. Then we mock EDL !

What's to say all those bikes on EBay with 'USD' Front end / R1 Fork conversions, aren't all a result of a frontal impact. Just some didn't involve another vehicle (3rd party), so the incident wasn't reported to the insurance company, and they've had the bike repaired and back on the road (with no 'Category x' to it's name). Cheeky foccers. :eek

Don't forget all those "street fightered" ones that were done "because I didn't like the fairing"

OK not all are going to have been in a "bump" - but that's generally the main reason you'll find an unfaired Sports bikes, because its slid down the road and trashed the fairing, which was not cost effective to replace. At least that's how the majority end up like that.  ;)

I've owned a couple of Sports bikes before my current Fazer. Both were 2nd hand. While the fairings had the odd mark here and there, it would still have felt criminal to rip them off unnecessarily, and lose the original sports bike "design".

Insurance assessor will not have checked it thoroughly enough for headstock damage, which could easily be the case with bent forks. I've seen bikes where the headstock bearing location in the frame is oval after a "light" frontal and others with barely discernible cracks there.

Are you in the salvage trade, or perhaps run a motorcycle store?

While measurements all add up (from headstock, measuring back both sides), until I get the front end off and can look at a "naked" headstock, with no Stem or even steering head bearings in situ, it's impossible to say 100% then. I still have my hopes up though. ;)

« on: 14 March 2018, 01:00:31 pm »
Hello guys,

So running a new Vehicle check and my 'accident damaged' Fazer now shows as a Cat N.
Category N is the new Category D - the LEAST serious category, cosmetic damage only, NOT structural.

I know reading the words "write-off" sends a shiver down your spine, plus 'bike looping through the air over a car several times', kind of visions.  :eek  :lol

It was nothing like that, plus am already sourcing the Parts to get the bike back on the road - to RIDE (not to sell on)... Only front forks got bent / headlight / nose fairing cracked.

What's the legal process with a Cat "N", and putting it back onto the road (legally) - can anyone in the Trade confirm please?
On a sports bike this would be just a few pieces of fairing and she's as good as new!

I am more concerned with the idiot pulling out in front of me who did not see me, so fake Police on the BACK wont help that. And the fake ploice is more likely to antagonise the driver behind you, like you said he is only 6 feet from your rear wheel so he has already established that he is a nob

Which is what happened to me - although she was approaching in the opposite direction in her car (so she had plenty of time to see me coming along the road ahead of her), but then she makes a sudden right turn, across my side of the road, to get into a side road - she drove straight at me (like I was invisible)! I still have visions of the front end of her car almost on me, a fraction before impact (MY side of the road) -  then the next, a big smash and being laid on the floor with my bike on-top of me.

She did state right after the accident, she didn't see me! The concerning fact is there was nothing I could have done to avoid the impact - fortunately it was a residential location, so speeds were beneath 30mph.

I'd also like to state the justice system is A JOKE!!!! She was forced to do a 1 day driver awareness course - end of story. No points on her license, not charged with dangerous driving or indue care & attention (although the Police officer at the scene said she WOULD likely be - but wasnt). She doesn't even need to notify her insurance company she had to attend the course! She only has a fault claim on her insurance policy (as responsible). While MY bike (my mode of transport) gets written off plus have to deal with months of painful recovery.

I believe a car taking out a motorcycle should be more greatly punished, as the injuries the Biker sustains are usually much greater than a "bump" between 2 cars (with no injury to the occupants).

« on: 05 March 2018, 12:20:15 pm »
How easy is it to get the motorcyclist - small target long distance or is it some sort of auto focus tracking. You are in the sights but as you are coming around the corner very easily you quickly are out of the track - unlike a car that is wider how long does it need with an oncoming to register a speed. I am confused because If you are followed by a car they record your speed over 1/4 mile ? for evidence or have I got that  wrong

Well the vans (or police stood with a hand gun) are usually parked to one end of a straight road so once you are on that stretch coming towards them, your position wont deviate much to the left or right - unless you weave side to side between lanes (if there's more than 1 which "could" be a tactic) :)

Granted, on a bike you are 'tiny' compared to the mass plus width of a car - so it would require much greater targeting skill to track you.

.......I don't believe these speed guns have "helmet recognition + tracking" technology...... yet! :D

Got these starting soon as well.

Well if that's all they're used for then I'm 100% on-board with um, but the fact it they'll soon be used to catch you having a drink, eating some crisps, changing the radio station etc etc until it's get to the point ya don't dare fart while your driving in case ya get a fine

you do THAT too??  :eek Suppose what happens behind closed (car) doors, is not another mans business.  :lol

Why do the 2 Springs look quite different (pictured above)? - Their closely coiled sections are far from 'even', with the Springs side by side - is there good reason for this?

Was once at a bike awareness event we set up and got talking to a bike copper with a laser gun. Phenomenal optics by the way.  He advised if we ever see a trap and are going too fast, accelerate rather than brake as they need to capture the number plate and going slowly makes it easier.
Obviously I don’t  condone speeding!

Well they do say if you get a Laser camera pointed at you, you have very little time to react, as by the time you see the officer with the camera, its probably too late. :)

There was quite a famous case where a guy was speeding through the Police cameras, and the Cameras kept registering an error. This happened on 3 occasions, and they pursued the vehicle which was seized. After taking the vehicle to pieces it was found to contain a handful of Jammers in the front/rear bumpers and grilles. The owner went down with quite a considerable sentence ("interfering with Police equipment"). Ironically he never got done for speeding.

Yeah, that gets me too.  :(

Unfortunately it is endemic even in big organisations. Sometimes it's a genuine error and other times it is intentional, and as you say, it is odd that the error is always in their favour.

A really blatant case for me was last year at a bike meet. In a well know coffee chain the girl tried to give change for a £10 note rather than a £20 note.

It is best if you can pay with the exact value, but that means carrying around a load of notes and change, or pay by card.

Of course, when you have had a few pints of Butcombe it is not so easy to keep a check on things. :\

If I'm stood there believing I've been short changed, I intentionally ask for a receipt.

Then I will stand there looking at what's been put through the till with what they've given me in change - gives you that extra few seconds to work it out, without the initial pressure, after getting over that initial shock of being short changed. :)

On my "big bike" lessons, we had a biker overtake us with a "POLITE NOTICE" bib on. Like above.
I could hear my instructor cursing and swearing at him/her in my headset!...   He disapproved majorly!  :lol

There's a UK company that sell ex-forces vehicles (to the public), when they become redundant to the Service.
They have Ambulances still covered in all their stickers etc, a lot of Police vans (some still with the Cages in the back), Bikes, Catering vans, etc.

What do you do with those?

General / Re: Can camera vans get you when facing towards you?

The Operator swivels round to the opposite direction, and uses a 2nd camera to take a Photo of the rear of your bike/registration plate, to accompany the footage of you speeding towards the Van. They are even known to jump out of the van and stand alongside it, to get that 2nd photo, after you've passed.

I thought I got caught like this about six months ago, going past a van... however I've received nothing (either lucky, or he was pre-occupied doing something else at the time I went past!).

Thank you for the additional responses. :)

Yes, I've carefully looked all around the Headstock, there's no flaked/flaking paint, no cracks, or failed welds.

Still need to take the Tank off, and finish off the measurements, however so far looking promising, no issues identified.
Plus rebuilding will be easier without the tank in the way. Will also save it getting accidentially damaged too.

Is removing/fitting new Forks quite a straightforward job? Any special tools required?
slappy - securing rachet straps to joists sounds a very secure method that I'd be interested in. However I really don't trust the strength of my garage joists and would likely end up with the joist failing and the whole garage roof ends up on the floor around me! Rebuilding the forks would then become the least of my worries lol.  :'(

Excellent! Thank you both for your methods - so ultimately the same result, supporting the bike under the Header pipes. :thumbup

I've investigated further methods (second best to a Jig - involving the complete strip down of the bike almost down to just a frame)...

Using chord attached to the headstock - down each side of the bike/frame to key points. Also from rear attachment, towards front of frame, again between key points. Plus measurements from the floor up to various points on the frame (both sides).

Finally, with stem removed, fixing a rod securely through and extended straight down - providing a useful attachment point for taking measurements - headstock centre line (down towards floor).

Then after that, assuming all appears good, the stripdown and fitting of the replacement front end! Hopefully all can be done while Bike is supported by your methods above?

Sorry to hear that hope you came off unscathed,

As for the bike well that depends on who's paying for the repairs, i.e claiming on their insurance or not, if claiming on their insurance then speak to yours as the bike should be checked out by a bike place in my opinion to access the damage & cost of repairs for insurance purposes & whether cost out ways the value of the bike to which it will be a written off.

Having the frame & head stock & so on checked will determine what happens next, then if all is o.k get prices for items i.e forks bearings etc so if bike is written off but repairable a deal can be struck with insurance to buy it back at a silly price.

Hello Bandit, thank you for your prompt reply.

Bike was written off, as uneconomical to repair (with new replacement parts). Have already been through the insurance process (had fully Comprehensive insurance), plus received a full payout for the bike. I did choose to buy back my Fazer from the salvage department, as its very clean apart from the damage confirmed above.

The insurance company said they wouldn't get the bike on a Jig to test the frame alignment/straightness, as that goes far beyond their inspection process.

So I now have my bike back and would actually like to build it back up. But would like some pointers on what to look for.

I've closely inspected it with an inspection lamp. There's no flaking of paint around the Headstock or cracks or failed welding (to indicate the Headstock has moved). The Headstock didn't hit anything and has no damage to the front. Also from the headstock back, theres no other damage to the bike, as it was literally just a head-on impact.

Is it difficult to remove the front end - forks/yoke etc on my own? Hows it best to support the Bike so it wont tip over, while completing this task?

Hello all,

So my first Post and seeking help!  :rolleyes

Was involved in a RTA car pulls across my path to get into a side road.  I had nowhere to go and effectively T-Bone the side of the car. Approx 30mph.

Front forks bent back a few inches/twisted but not as extreme as touching the radiator etc. However what symptoms should i be looking for concerning bent headstock or frame?

Dont want to commit to spending £100's putting a new front end on only to find there's a noticeable twist to the new forks/wheel due to hidden damage further back.

any feedback greatly appreciated.
(oh plus its a mk1 fazer).
