Title: Rack.

Hi all. Just after a little feedback from people who have fitted a top box rack to their fazer8.

Which rack is the most popular?

Does the rear body work need modifying with the official yamaha rack?

Have looked at the Hepco and Becker rack, like this one as it looks like it bolts straight into the grab handle space.
However it does look a bit flimsy ie might bounce a bit with 6 or 7 kilos on it. Has anyone fitted it to their bike?

Looked at the Givi rack, not sure about the height the plate sits at or the fact the install pdf says you have to drill
some part of the sub frame, is this right?

SW Motech alu rack.

Was really after a rack that can be quite easily removed after a trip and the grab handles replaced so as to
return the bike to it's original clean look.

I had the Yamaha rack and top box fitted when I got the bike. They did have to modify the bodywork where the original grab rails fitted, I think the rear openings were slightly enlarged.
The rack incorporates grab rails so your pillion will be ok, but if you want to remove the rack and return the original grab rails I think you will find the hole in the bodywork will be too big and look a bit odd.

Thanks for that, I did wonder about the the body work on the fazer8.
Kinda hoped the cutting to make the rack fit might have been limited to the FZ8 as I dont think they have grab handles.
Could be wrong about that though. Cheers.

I fitted the Yamaha rack and top box to my Faxer8 and yes, you do have to enlarge the holes where the pillion handles bolt in. I too the panels off and did it with a thin hot knife heated over the gas hob in the kitchen. On the underside of the panel was markings which defined how much to enlarge to.
If the FZ8 doesnt have grab rails, would you have to make your own holes in the plastic to reach the bolt holes in the sub-frame?

Well i wanted to keep the bike std so if i remove the rack I'm not left with gaps in the body work.
So took the plunge and have gone with the Hepco & becker rack.

If you don't use the box too often Shad offer a sport rack which replaces the pillion seat.
When finish with topbox take rack out refit pillion seat
