A mate popped round the other weekend and changed both tyres for me all he had was a couple of tyre levers.  while he started on the beads I turned the compressor on and started sorting out airlines. Perfect moment for the motor to pack up then.. My mate was not phased by this and went and got a stirrup type bicycle pump from his car that has a little tank you pump up for seating tubeless tyres. No chance I thought, but it seated the beads first try on both wheels. Never seen the like of it.

There was a group purchase thread going recently. The supplier needed 20 names or something like that to make a worthwhile production run.
Yeah the threads I saw look like they are just the big stuff. I need the small pipes on the carb heaters and such. 3mm and 4mm stubs, and fuel line but thats easy enough. Of course the way this bikes playing up, soon as I fix the small pipes the bigger stuff will start letting go... :rolleyes

« on: 20 May 2018, 03:26:42 pm »
I have this old Fazer I'm trying to resurrect, it really doesn't want to play though. I'm nearly there but now its started splitting hoses. yesterday the pump to carb pipe split today the coolant hose under carbs split. They are all a bit elderly and perished. To save whats left of my sanity anyone know of a set or cutting list for pipes so I can replace the lot in one go? IT's that or kick it over and set fire to it.. ;)

People always over estimate how difficult bodywork repairs are. Have a go - Whats the worst that could happen?  :)

To save on wire brushes and knuckles, Electrolysis is brilliant for cleaning rust offstuff like this.I started out with a bucket and a battery charger, now I have a wheelybin...

Hi chillitt, good call with the electrolysis, did you use caustic soda or washing soda crystals?

Back in takes 2 or 3hrs regardless as it's a bit of a faff reconnecting throttle cables, getting engine mount bolts back in, carb rubbers on, etc. Usually requires a bit of swearing and a few cups of tea.

Sounds like alot of fun Bretty, Can you lift the engine in on your own or do you need another pair of hands?
I use soda crystals.Nice and cheap and a bit friendlier than caustic

I'm pretty sure you have a main jet (under the needle), a pilot jet and a blank jet that has the same screw head as the main jet and looks like it has a hole but it doesn't.

Mines the same, nothing passes through the blank jet, put mine all back together and it runs fine.

Brett
Thank you. I'll stop trying to unbung it then..  :lol

Just re  read this, to be clear, does the 2nd main jet have a hole in it or not? Its now had an overnight in white vinegar and I cant see any sign of a hole there...

I'm having the same trouble with the same jet... On the Fiche is described as Jet Main 0.6 so I'd have thought there should be a hole there somewhere..  They have been in the carb cleaner for 36 hours and still no joy, they also had a ride in B-I-Ls ultrasound cleaner, but that just seems to have got everything wet...  It's going to break my heart if I have to buy new jets at 6 quid each.. :lol

If they are lacquered up from evaporated petrol, the best thing to shift the lacquer is cellulose thinners or acetone. Carb cleaner in my opinion is not strong enough to soften the lacquer.
I have put them in some vinegar for the night. Hope springs eternal...

Can do. It might be a couple of weeks though. Got too much else on to touch the bike at the moment.
Marvellous, thank you. There's no rush, my brother in law has the carbs in his ultrasound tank and I wont have them back for a while. Shout when it's off and we'll sort it out. I might dash down if I have a burst of enthusiasm... :D

Where are you based? I've got to change my tyres due to rear puncture. So I'll have a perfectly good Avon storm front available shortly. Free if you pick it up. I'm in Bridgwater.
That's very kind of you. I'm between Cirencester and Oxford.. I dont suppose you'd post it if I cash you up a bit?

I personally wouldnt go with the 120, they fit a 110 for a reason.. The 180 is an even bigger no no..  :)
Thank you. I thought as much. Worth a try though.

FZS600 Fazer / Cheapskate tyre question
« on: 04 September 2016, 11:23:19 pm »
I have this grotty old fazer, and limited funds to get it on the road. The front tyre is a bit of an each way bet when it comes to the MOT. I have an Angel ST on an R6 wheel, but its a 120/70 rather than a 110. If I use it, will I bust into flames or meet some similar terrible end?  Its currently got a Qualifier on the back if that makes any difference. I also have the R6 rear, but that's a 180 so I'm assuming there's no chance that will fit on the fazer.. Thanks in advance

Why not just repair it? (Caution, not quite finished yet, but you get the idea...)

Did I mention I'm a blacksmith?

See I thought if it was blue, it would detract from the lovely blue spot calipers, and the anodised matching indicators... ;)

so ive just got this.

It's been sat a while, it's been dropped, but it doesn't look too bad.. Carbs are going for a nice long soak in an ultrasound cleaner, fairing is going to get jabbed with a soldering iron, and then we'll see what else it needs..
